You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
It's a place that attracts happiness.
Locals know about the historic Bare Farm and its beloved Cabin on the River. Many a wedding party has bumped down the dirt road to witness vows below its stained glass windows. There have been festivities, a time or two. Some folks tell the story of a dog that went tubing and a grandmother who parked herself on a lawn chair in the river to watch. There was a grandfather who danced till dawn, went home to feed the cows and hurried back to catch the last song. Just 3 miles from historic Lexington, the Cabin sleeps 8, with two full size beds in one room, a queen size in the other, and a king size mattress on the floor in the loft. There's a fully equipped kitchen facing a stone fireplace in the large main room. There are old iron beds and hand made quilts. There's a glider on the porch where you might want to sit in the mornings to drink your coffee and watch the fog rise off the river. Some say laughter still echoes through the trees.........
Peace and tranquility: If you are looking for a place to renew your spirit....the Cabin on the River at the Bare Farm is it. Some say laughter still echoes through the trees..........

Very cool, rustic cabin right on the Maury river. Beautiful drive through horse farms to get to property. Very secluded on large acreage but close to Lexington for W&L or VMI visits. Clean and exactly as advertised. Will definitely consider a future stay.

There is not much not to like about this quaint comfortable cabin sitting above the Maury River! Dogs were in heaven!
We loved everything about this place and had a wonderful time there!
This cabin is an absolute slice of heaven! What a perfect to get away from the daily grind. It was great to disconnect from the world for a few days with our teenagers and enjoy life at the beautiful cabin on the river.
A true cabin on the river experience From the drive down to the cabin through a working farm, to arrival, I can not say enough about how impressive this property is. Very special and truly authentic. A great escape from the DC area to be sure.
Love this place have stayed 3 times. My only complaint was the guy that cut the grass he was very rude not just messing up our peace and quite but just hateful
Great little rustic cabin with an exceptional view. Stayed here with family and our two dogs, and we all had a wonderful time. The cabin had everything we needed. We sat on the front porch in the morning and watched the river roll by, and played board games in the evening in the screened pavilion. We saw deer and turkeys passing thru the yard. We spent one day walking the Chessie Trail, which winds you thru cow fields - we loved seeing the new calves romping around. Everything was perfect - we are already talking about a return trip!
Location location location! Cabin was situated on a hill with clear view of the Maury river . Our dog ran and swam . Sat chairs in the river and since it was July laid down in the river to cool off. Quiet and peaceful. We will come back !
My husband and I brought our son, his wife and their three year old daughter here for a weekend getaway. It was wonderful... so peaceful and what a beautiful location. My granddaughter loved the wide open spaces to run and be as loud as she wanted! My son and his wife taught her how to roll down a hill. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the fun! There were so many deer and we all loved seeing the horses as we came through the gate each day. Plus, it was so close to all the attractions we had come to see: the Safari Park and Stonewall Jackson house. Excellent place... highly recommend!
This cabin is an absolute hidden gem and I can’t believe we were able to stay there. We easily fit with 4 adults and 4 children without feeling crammed. We spent so much time on the front porch, watching bald eagles and herons and the incredible amount of fireflies that came out at night. The cabin was equipped with everything we could have needed (except a washing machine, and with kids it was interesting but we were happy to make do!). Early morning walks on the paths and the road while the mist lifted off the valley… the entire place is just magical. Lexington and the grocery store are just 10 minutes away with plenty of restaurant options and things to see. We came home relaxed and happy - a true vacation. Highly recommend!!!
Was really looking forward to sitting on porch and watch the river like the listing showed in picture. Got there the view was grown over, making it hard to see the river. Nice cozy cabin to sit on the porch and look at the trees and relax.
The setting and cabin were absolutely perfect. The drive through the farm to the cabin was beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the horses and donkeys! We loved it so much that we reserved another 4 nights in October
We enjoyed the quiet and the beautiful setting. We watched the birds in the morning and the deer in the evening. It was incredibly restful after a long drive from Ashville.
We never saw the owners, but their emails and directions were spot on
This cabin is in a beautiful setting, on a grass knoll above the Maury river. There are trails and birds everywhere. The cabin in comfortable, with a large shared kitchen/living area, but in nice weather, you'll want to spend most time on the front porch! We planned on doing more exploring, but the cabin area was too relaxing and enjoyable so we mostly hung out. But Lexington and Buena Vista are a short drive to pick up anything you forgot or grab a bite out. 2 access points down a slope get you to the river. Bring river shoes if you plan on getting in or fishing. We, and our dog, had a terrific time!
