Horrific. I had messaged the hotel when I made the booking to say I had 2 dogs. It was included as a pet friendly hotel on Expedia. When I arrived they said they only accepted one dog of a small weight. The woman on the desk was extremely agressive. They would not allow me to stay - although I see they have taken my money. I asked for the manager. He was huge and equally aggressive. I'm around 50 kilos. I fled.
Except now I was in Leon on my own on a Friday night with 2 dogs. I had driven from north of Porto. I couldn't pick up internet to see what I could do. By this time I was shaking.
I am a woman travelling on her own in a foreign country.
Finally got internet and called NH in Bilbao where I had stayed before, wirh the 2 dogs - I had given them a great review. They gave me a room. They could hear I was very upset and were very concerned and helpful. So, having driven 6 hours already, I had to drive another 3 hours to Bilbao. The lady on reception gave my dogs a big hug - by that stage I needed one too.
I still feel very shocked this morning - and exhausted. In all my years of living or travelling in Spain, I have never experienced this type of reaction. My dogs have stayed in some of the best hotels and there has never been an issue.
If they were not going to accept my dogs, why didn't they respond to my message, instead of confirming the booking.
I am a small woman in her late 60s. I felt extremely intimidated by these people. This is not a safe place.
