Glencairn House, Thorpeness

A spectacular holiday home forming part of Ogilvie Hall in the heart of Thorpeness. Sleeping up to eight guests in five bedrooms, Glencairn House is an ideal retreat for family holidays or celebrating a special occasion.

Split over four floors the property is well-appointed with a contemporary feel and has plenty of space for entertaining or escaping from the children for an evening tipple. On the lower ground floor you will find the stylish kitchen with integrated appliances and a large island, as well as a dining area for up to eight guests. For your convenience there is also a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and cloakroom/WC. The first of the five bedrooms is located on the lower ground floor, featuring a generous king-size bed, luxurious feather bedding and an en-suite bathroom with a statement free-standing bath. Up the stairs to the ground floor level there is a further bedroom with 4'6 double bed and en-suite shower room, in addition to the large open-plan living space. The living space with plenty of comfy seating has an impressive two-storey vaulted ceiling and is overlooked by the mezzanine floor complete with football table. What better way to spend a cool winter's night than snuggled up in front of the wood burning stove whilst the big kids play a game or two of table football. The mezzanine floor is accessed through bedroom three with a 4'6 double bed on the first floor. Up to the second and final floor are two further bedrooms. The first of these has a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, the second bedroom has a small 4' double bed and shares the family bathroom with bedroom three on the first floor. The second floor also benefits from a small kitchenette area with a wash basin so there's no need to trek down numerous flights of stairs for a glass of water in the night. With so many bedrooms to choose from you're truly spoiled for choice.

Outside, garden dining furniture is provided and space for parking two cars on the shared driveway.

Nice location, tired and dirty property
We stayed here for the marmalade ball and were disappointed to find a tired and poorly maintained house. There was no welcome pack, as described in the booking and arrival emails. There was no general information folder either. All the cutlery and crockery needed cleaning b before use. Work tops sticky. Hard floors dirty, especially in the bathrooms and carpets and furnishing, which are light, very well used. Baby toys were also left in the kitchen and living room area, it looked like someone had just left, without cleaning,prior to our stay. Overall the location is perfect and the accommodation space very good for two families to spend a week together. The garden is open and on the few occasions we sat in the garden, random people used it as a cut through, which was very strange. The bins in the garden were also overflowing and it generally need a good tidy up/ maintenance care.
