Our 4th visit, as good as it ever was
What can I say, Barbara is excellent, the location is perfect. This was our 4th visit, and every bit as enjoyable as the rest.

3 night break
We are a group of 4 adults, one child and one toddler. We had a lovely time in this very peaceful location and would definitely return. It was good that some toys were provided for the children. But beware the small step down into the kitchen, as it takes some getting used to!

Recommended for all sorts!
Would happily book again, this was our second Summer visit. House and surrounds are beautiful, also beautifully clean. It's really easy to enjoy this place & location. Love the sheep, flowers and birds being right outside. Our bookings of mid Jul were great value for the quality and the space offered.

A wonderful stay
We had a lovely break in this beautiful accommodation. The barn was stylish and comfy and the views an sunsets to die for. Lots to do and see around, and some lovely traditional inns to eat and replenish. Ray and Barbara are so nice. They made us so welcome and the homemade flapjacks were delicious. My 6 year old granddaughter really enjoyed herself here and Ray and Barbara are her new best friends. We will return for longer next time

Weekend walking break
I can thoroughly recommend this accommodation. Barbara was welcoming, thoughtful and helpful. It was a cold weekend, and we arrived to the log burner having been lit, a warm toasty house, fresh flowers and homemade cakes. The house was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped. The views of the Roaches from the back windows are beautiful, as are the dark skies. There are footpaths right on the doorstep so that we could explore the countryside. I would definitely return.

Another brilliant Thanksgiving Weekend
This is the third time that we have stayed at Troutsdale for our family gathering around the time of Thanksgiving. It is perfect for us as we can rent both properties for the weekend and get all our family together. Barbara, Ray and Kathryn are very welcoming and do everything they can to make our stay comfortable. The area is really interesting with lots of good walking at the nearby reservoir which also has a brilliant cafe. We will certainly be returning.

5 Star in every way possible.
Amazing place and I was truly impressed. Was looking for a special place to celebrate my partner's birthday with family and could have not picked a better place. The family that runs the business are very friendly and they were very thoughtful with placing baloons, a card, a birthday banner and some delightful pastries when we arrived. If you want a rustic place and some amazing scenery you don't need to look further. Very comfortable cottage and cosy with the fireplace (which was on when we arrived). Free parking. Free Wi-fi. Kitchen fully equipped to make big meals and looks new. Close to the mountains and no noisy surroundings if you enjoy a good night sleep. Beds are also comfortable. Hygiene for me is a MUST and could not find a single spot of issues. Bathrooms very clean and look new. Will definitely come back.

A beautiful spacious, cosy barn renovation in idealic countryside.
The most beautiful, most comfortable renovated barn conversion set in idealic surroundings in the Peak district. The hosts are so welcoming and provide everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay.

A beautiful old barn conversion
A wonderful old barn conversion. Great location- so much to do in such close proximity for both kids and adults. Spectacular rolling hills and sunset views from the garden. We have stayed in many cottages/holiday homes and this one is certainly up there. Barbara was so welcoming and kind. Nothing was ever too much. We even had homemade scones with cream and jam waiting for us on arrival! We will be back!

A perfect short break
Everything about our stay at the Old Shire Stables was excellent. Perfect hosts who were rightly proud of their sensitively restored property and wanted to help in any way they could to add to our enjoyment of the holiday, including age-appropriate toys for the little ones. The weather also happened to be perfect so the BBQ and views were truly appreciated.

A wonderful break!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Troutsdale. What a stunning location with the most delightful view from the garden to see the sun setting over the landscape in the evening. A very comfortable and pleasing barn conversion. We walked, cycled and kayaked during our week and thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Beautiful cottage with spectacular view.
This delightful well appointed character cottage was spotlessly clean. We were also provided with good storage for our six bikes. The view from the lounge window and the garden was superb as it looked across the fields to The Roaches. We enjoyed some stunning sunsets. Although we joined another cottage the garden was very private. The 'wild' garden beyond was very much enjoyed by the children. This proved to be a good area for walking as we could even walk from the door. Cycling on the Tissington and Manifold Trail was most enjoyable as it's so safe for the children. We would recommend a visit to the Peak Wildlife Park which is nearby. We were made very welcome on our arrival by the owner. An excellent holiday!

Wonderful relaxing stay
Wonderful one week stay at Easter in this beautifully converted barn on a working sheep farm. The owners were so warm, welcoming and generous and our children were thrilled to see the many newborn lambs. The barn is very well equipped and comfortable - we especially loved the cosy wood burning fire in the lounge. Stunning views over open unspoilt countryside. We enjoyed days out to nearby Tittesworth reservoir, Buddolph Gardens (30 mins by car) and Kedleston Hall (45 mins).

Lovely Cottage
Lovely cottage with a very welcome log fire which kept the place nice and cozy in what was a rather cold and wet week. Barbara was very nice and helpful and the lamb was delicious. Lovely location on the edge of the Peak District with plenty of nice walks either locally or just a short drive away. Would definitely like to come back again one day when the weather is better but still a very enjoyable stay despite the rain.

A week of comfort exploring the Peak District
This was our first visit to the Peak District so we searched high & low to find a suitable base from where to explore the area. We wanted 4 things from our accommodation, 1. A lovely view 2. A nice bathroom with bath 3. A nice farmhouse kitchen 4. An open fire or log burner Old Shire Stables ticked all our boxes. We got an exceptionally warm & informative welcome from Barbara. Most days during our break consisted of exploring & walking in the morning. Sorcing local ingredients for an evening meal. Finding a nice pub for a pint, then returning to the barn to light the fire & prepare supper. The barn was immaculate & full of character. The conversion was done to a very high standard. Ray explained he had used oak purchased a few years ago to construct the kitchen, doors etc. Being a carpenter myself I could appreciate the finer details. Ray is a great character who is dedicated to looking after the various varieties of sheep on the farm. We very much look forward to returning to Troutsdale to see Ray & Barbara. To spend more time in this fantastic property. We would highly recommend the property as a base to explore the area & beyond. Thanks for having us Jim & Lucy
