The Space:
Welcome to our charming rental property in Leadville! This suite, located on the lofted 3rd floor of a historic mansion built in 1893 by former Governor Jesse McDonald, offers a tranquil retreat. Enjoy the stunning view of Leadville and the surrounding mountains from the large 2nd story deck. The unit embodies Leadville's charm with its quiet, quaint, and colorful atmosphere. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, making it perfect for a couple of friends or a group of four. Situated just half a block from Main Street, you'll have easy access to all the attractions.
Please note that the home is older, as is typical in Leadville, and noise may occasionally leak from the main unit below. However, we provide white noise machines and earplugs for your convenience. Kindly respect the neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum after 10 pm. Additionally, please be aware that while the photos may still show twin beds, they have been replaced with a queen bed for your comfort.
The primary bedroom is spacious and charming, featuring a king-size bed with an ornate white iron headboard, a vanity sink, a large walk-in closet, an antique dresser with a mirror, and a cozy sitting area with a wing-back chair. The original plank pine floors are adorned with oriental-style rugs.
There is a cozy dormer bedroom off the living room, furnished with a comfortable queen bed, a dresser, and a matching nightstand.
The living room and kitchen share a large central area, creating a welcoming ambiance. The living room provides a sofa, an antique upholstered chair, a writing desk, and cable TV.
The kitchen occupies one side of the room and is equipped with an oak table and four chairs, a stove with an oven, a refrigerator, a microwave, a toaster, a blender, and a coffee maker. Additionally, there is a spacious walk-in storage closet.
The private bathroom, located off the hallway between the kitchen and the primary bedroom, features built-in storage shelves, an enclosed shower, a cute pedestal sink, and an incredible view of the Sawatch mountain range to the south.

Guest Access:
The space is completely private from the rest of the house and has a dedicated parking spot in the rear of the house. The unit is located on the third floor and accessed via the back deck.
The Neighborhood:
Disclosure: There is going to be some city construction going on this summer. We apologize! We will remove this disclosure when the project is completed. You may encounter some road or alley blockages near the home during your stay. Construction will not be going on outside of 8am-5pm hours. Parking can be found on 7th and 8th Street.
You'll be surrounded by the highest mountains in the Colorado Rockies where majestic scenery blends with a lively history. There is much to do during your stay including:
- Skiing at nearby Ski Cooper, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek
- Ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and Nordic skiing on the Mineral Belt Trail.
- Mountain biking for any level of expertise. World-class hiking, mountain climbing, fishing and hunting.
- Shopping, dining, visiting museums or taking a self-guided walking tour in a quintessential Victorian town.
- Following the route of the Silver Kings in Leadville's Mining District.
- Exploring ghost towns.
- Four-wheeling from beginner level to the more advanced 13,186' Mosquito Pass, the highest vehicular road in the United States.
Getting Around:
Located just one block from Main street means that most places in town can be reached by foot.
The property also features a dedicated parking spot, but you can catch a bus in town to Copper Mountain and to the Frisco Transit Center.

Yes, we are pet friendly - There is an additional pet fee if you are bringing a pet (2 pets max) - $60 +tax for one, $120 +tax for two
Note: under no circumstances can you leave your pet(s) unattended at the property - there are doggy day care/ dog boarding options or take your pet with you! Violations of this may be met with a $100 fine or we may ask you to check-out early.
If it snows more than several inches, look for snow removal signs to make sure you don't violate any temporary parking rules
The Governor's Mansion was once the home of former Governor Jesse McDonald and is centrally located in Leadville's National Historic Landmark District. Part of this house was built in 1881, with the mansion portion completed in 1893. Former Governor, Jesse McDonald, who sought and found his fortune in Leadville, built this big house to entertain guests as they travelled through town.
Staying in the mountains offers a unique and nature-immersed experience, characterized by a rustic charm. You might occasionally encounter some of the local wildlife, insects, and small critters that are part of the natural surroundings. We recommend keeping doors securely closed whenever possible. Rest assured, we've implemented thorough measures to ensure your stay remains undisturbed by these natural inhabitants.
Altitude sickness is real. In Leadville/ Twin Lakes, the elevation can be up to 10,000 feet. Symptoms can include dizziness and nausea, so please be mindful of this. We cannot offer refunds for guests experiencing altitude sickness. If you anticipate being affected, we recommend obtaining insurance at the time of booking.
