About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Le Chatox, the best view from any chalet in the alps ! Ski, cycle, trek, chill.

We have special rates for couples and small groups of 4 or less, just call us to enquire +44 7971 915316. We also have E Bikes for hire. Tucked away in the corner of this attractive little hamlet, Le Chatox gives you one of the most stunning views from any chalet you'll find in the alps. So much so, that we went the extra mile and doubled the size of the balcony so you can now dine outside or just lounge under the spot lights taking in the view. In fact, turn off the light and wonder at the night sky as you enjoy your fav nightcap star gazing! In the morning the view will change hourly so grab the chatox binoculars to spot the birds of prey and the Les Bauges wildlife. We always like to have a chat with prospective guests to make sure we've got everything you're looking for to make the most of your holiday in Les Bauges (the Wallows), an area of outstanding natural beauty, heritage and tradition. We ask you to call Paul or Wendy first +447971915316 before booking in case you have any specifics not answered here or to just ensure we have what you're looking for. Its really important to us that we ensure we meet expectations. Le Chatox makes a great base to explore a wide range of outdoor activities or to simply relax and chill in the fresh mountain air with stunning views from your private terrace balcony or garden patio. Situated on a hillside on the outskirts of Le Chatelard in the heart of the Massif des Bauges regional park, Le Chatox enjoys superb views through the valley towards the mountains and is a just 30 minutes from the beautiful towns of Annecy, Chambery and Aix-Les Bains.

The lounge is open plan with an L shaped sofa for 6 and an additional two seater sofa. There's a book selection, games cupboard and guitar if you play. Binoculars for bird watching and TV (some UK channels) and DVD with a CD film selection for evenings in or chess and cards if you prefer. We fitted a Casting usb so you can cast to the TV on your device. Apologies that we for no French TV . Free WiFI through Le Chatox. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, Di Longi coffee machine, and Wendy's spice cabinet! There's a fondu, BBQ and raclette set for meat and cheese fondue lovers. The Morso Squirrel wood stove puts out big heat in winter to couple with underfloor heating and there is a bathroom/shower on each floor. Le Chatox was built with light and space in mind so we have a sliding door to a patio at the side of the chalet to the garden with 4 sun loungers. A great area to BBQ.

The terrace balcony is large and you can entertain there seating 8 at the table for dinners and BBQ's. We tend to spend most time here in summer as we chose the plot deliberately for the stunning view of Dent de Rossanz or 'booby mountain' to our guests.

In the 'cave' or ground floor is garage parking and room for our full size competition table tennis. On a fine day just wheel it out in the sun! We also have 4 tennis rackets for the courts in the village.

Our village Le Chatelard remains unspoilt and retains a certain rustic charm with its old store fronts and little alleys leading up towards the church. It is a quiet, friendly village with a large supermarket, bakery, bar and excellent restaurant, tourist information, bank, post office and a local food market every Friday morning.

Les Bauges is a walkers paradise. Great family skiing is here at unbeatable prices away from crowds. There are 5 resorts all within 30 mins from your home. This is cycling heaven with awesome routes used in the Tour de France. I can advise on routes for all abilities.

Beautiful Annecy is nearby for swimming and exploring the old town called 'little Venice'. It was recently voted one of the most beautiful places to visit in France. Our local lake with restaurant and flumes, tennis and fun for little ones is just 10 minutes away! The French will wonder how you discovered their secret resort! All just 1 hour from Geneva airport. 8.00hrs from Calais. Just get in touch with Paul or Wendy on +447971 915316 for a chat so we can tailor your holiday personally.

Wonderful place to relax in a beautiful area
Thank you Paul and Wendy for letting us stay at your wonderful house "Le Chatox". The house was exactly as described on the internet, is wel equipped and was very comfortable. We felt very welcome. When at the house, the kids enjoyed playing ping-pong and darts. We have come to value the Bauges region. The region is very peaceful and has several small typical French towns. All the basic needs can be found in the town of Le Chatelard itself: bakery, supermarket, gas-station, restaurants and very helpful, the tourist office (though lots of tips also available at the house). From le Chatelard there are a lot of fun hikes and activities to do with the kids. Also, many other fun places are within a quick drive of maximum an hour (Annecy, Lac d'Aiguebelette, Lac Bourget, Chambery). Be aware, as soon as you leave the Bauges region you might suddenly find all the other places "to crowded". A perfect place if you want to relax and get away from your busy daily life and work. Thanks again, The Scott-family

Le chatox is perfect for a summer and winter holid
Le chatox is an ideal holiday home. It's very well equipped and comfortable with all the mod cons. Wendy and Paul are perfect hosts and are always helpful with enquiries. We spent two weeks a couple of years ago in the summer when the sun shone every day. There is so much to do in the area for all ages. I loved walking in the area where the scenery is stunning. Swimming in lakes, cycling, glaziers, paragliding etc. We have just returned from a winter break Feb 2017 where all 7 of us skied. Paul and wendy were very helpful with arranging lessons and hire equipment. Les allons and margeriaz ski resorts were about half an hours drive from the chalet and were perfect for all levels of skiers. The slopes were quiet and we never had to queue for lifts. The price for hire and lift passes is much cheaper than the more popular French ski resorts. We would recommend Melanie who delivered our home cooked dinner on a few evenings. Really lovely food made to order and very good value. Hope to return to experience beautiful rural France.

Le Chatox - a gem in Les Bauges
The property is excellent 4 good size bedrooms, well kitted out kitchen for those meals when you eats in and even games for those wet afternoons (table tennis in the cave). Plenty to do with walks up and around the local peaks. Cycles available if you are up to it. I can recommend hiring an electric bike to assist with the uphills if you are not quite Froome standard, they really make a difference and you get to see the magnificent scenery. We spent 2 days down at Lake Annecy, hired a boat and in Sept is beautifully warm and clear to swim in. The Visitors Book is full of ideas and trips that others have made and you can spend time following up on adventure trails or just discovering local restaurants they have listed. The best bit is sitting out on the balcony in the evening with chees, bread and wine and watch 'Booby Mountain' as the sun sets...very relaxing. Thank you Paul and Wendy you have a beautiful home from home, very welcoming and easy to relax into.

Fantastic Base for Family Skiing Holiday
This is our second stay at Le Chatox - see our review of 21 April 2015. Again we had a fantastic time and highly recommend the chalet and local ski resorts. It was a bit busier this time being half term (previously we came at Easter) but not too much so. We hope to come back again next year.

Excellent House in the Rhone-Alpes
This is our second stay at Le Chatox. This is a very well equipped and comfortable house that is also smart and nicely designed. Our main activities on holiday are walking and for me road cycling. This is a great location for both. There are some great walks both demanding, mildly challenging and more leisurely in a truly beautiful part of France and the Alpes. The views from the summit walks are breath taking. Rides can be started from the house which are described in the house information and marked up on maps by the owner who is a keen cyclist. My rides I kept to around 1.5 to 2.5 hours and the scenery is spectacular. The Tour went through the village in 2013 and you can do parts of, or all of the stage if you are up for it! The house sits on the edge of the town of Le Chatelard which has a convenient supermarket, filling station and few restaurant options nearby. Chez Cyril in Le Noyer is particularly good. I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation which is appointed to high standards.

Fabulous Summer Holiday at Le Chatox
We have just returned from a wonderful two family fortnight at Le Chatox - eight of us in total. The accommodation was superb, exactly as described, spacious, spotless, welcoming and very easy to find from the directions provided. After absorbing the wonderful mountain-view setting and enjoying the clean alpine air we all settled in very quickly in this fabulous home from home with everything we needed for a relaxing base for our holiday. We had very good weather on the whole with the 35 degree high finally breaking with a dramatic thunderstorm which was phenomenal to watch from the comfort of the chalet. On that one day of rain Le Chatox provided table tennis, darts, a cupboardful of games and a selection of DVDs to keep everyone entertained. Temperatures settled around 25 - 28 degrees and we set about exploring and experiencing the area. Between us we cycled (including following a stage of Le Tour de France), walked (Cascade du Pissieu and Chapelle St Bernard) swam and water skied at Lescheraines Lakes, swam and sailed at Lake Annecy on numerous occasions, flew through the trees at Aillon Station Ski Resort (ski-lift up and zip wires and tree-top walkways down - great fun for children and adults alike!), enjoyed the spectacular views from Semnoz, learned about the art of the Chocolatier, shopped in Old Annecy Town and of course at the local Carrefour, especially when we chose to simply relax at Le Chatox and enjoy the weather, the peace and the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a number of barbecues at Le Chatox and also ate out in Annecy, at Lescheraines and Lake Annecy benefitting from recommendations from Paul and Wendy - our favourite was Chez Ma Cousine by the water in Doussard. We will definitely return to Le Chatox and we would highly recommend Le Chatox for a fantastic summer holiday.

Le Chatox in June
We stayed at the Le chatox for 8 nights (22nd-29th June 2015) and had a wonderful time. When we stayed here about 5 years ago, we did a fly/drive via Geneva airport, but this time we went by car which was fairly straight forward (if you stick to the toll roads). Paul gave us very good directions which was very helpful for the last part of the journey. Le Chatox is a lovely holiday chalet set on a hill overlooking a valley with 2 mountain peaks in the background which make for a stunning view from the chalet balcony. Although it may be seem remote and can only be reached by car, you are rewarded by being in a fantastic rural location with breathtaking scenery. It is part of the village of Le Chatelard - one of 12 villages in Les Bauges. We took the opportunity to do lots of walking and went swimming in a local lake at Lescheraines, Visited Annecy (make sure you go there on a market day!), hired a boat on the lake as well as swimming in the lake, visited Aix Les Bains and another lake: Lac Bauget. There is no shortage of things to do and places to see! Cycling is very popular around this area, so if you're a keen cyclist and like some challenging climbs, this is the place to come! Le Chatox is a very comfortable chalet with plenty of room and is very well equipped. The owners went out of their way to ensure our stay here was memorable. We will definitely go there again.

Fantastic Base for Family Skiing Holiday
We spent nine nights here as a group of two families with young children on their first skiing holiday during the first week of Easter. We drove which we found surprisingly easy. Le Chatox was absolutely perfect for our group and had plenty of space for the children to play (including table tennis and darts) and for us to relax in the evenings and everything you could possibly need in a holiday home. Paul had sent us all of the information we needed beforehand but was also available to talk through the arrangements for our ski lessons (with Muriel from ESF who was great) and equipment hire (from Christian and Marie from Aillon Sport, also great). We only skied at Margeriaz which is 20 minutes away by car (Paul had already told us that the lower Les Aillons would be closed) which was brilliant for the four beginners and absolutely fine for the fairly rusty two intermediates. The children (10, 9 and 6) took to skiing straight away and loved it. There are many other ski areas accessible by car, including Val Thorens, but we didn't venture far. Despite rain for one day (it was the last week of the season) the skiing conditions were great and the pistes were empty even at the weekend. We didn't have to queue once for the ski lifts and as it was the last week the ski passes were only 12 Euro's each per day. Everyone at Margeriaz (and elsewhere) were very friendly and we particularly enjoyed lunches at La Bergerie. There were some language barriers (we speak very little French) but we got by without too much bother. As we had small children who were exhausted we ate in every evening and the Carrefour supermarket in Le Chatelard had everything we needed. We took snow chains but didn't come close to needing them. Don't use your in-car DVD player on the train (we did and had to be jump started) and don't take the wrong turning and end up in Geneva in rush hour like us! All in all we had a fantastic time and have already booked to go back in the February half term next year.

Half Term at Le Chatox
What an amazing place! The views are absolutely stunning, we woke up each day to the sun shining on the top of the mountains burning away the mist. We were two families of four, there was plenty of space the living area easily accomodated eight of us, we didn't feel crowded at all, a real home from home with everything you need. The skiing was perfect. We are all intermediate skiers and the lovely long blue runs suited the adults, the children could safely ski the reds and black at Margeriaz. We skied at Aillons the first day but we were all in agreement that Margeriaz was the favourite. We had great plans for a non-skining day at Annecy but the weather was so good we stuck to skiing. The directions were straight forward, we found it easily and Paul was at the end of the phone with plenty of recommendations which was very thoughtful. A great place, we all thoroughly recommend it and would love to visit again, perhaps in the summer as there seems so much to do all year round. Thank you!

Lovely winter break
Just back from a lovely winter break at Le Chatox. The chalet was well equipped for catering for 8 and we particularly enjoyed the view from the balcony, the excellent coffee machine and the table tennis table. The chalet was clean and warm with underfloor heating and had everything we needed. The area is beautiful, good skiing at various lesser known resorts which were ideal for beginners and intermediates but also provided enough challenge for the more advanced skiers in our party and we found plenty to explore. Paul was very helpful with local information beforehand and there was a very helpful book of local info and walks at the chalet. We loved pottering around Annecy, a trip to the old village of Yvoire on Lake Geneva and a stunningly beautiful walk near La Croix de Nivolet, all recommended by Paul. The supermarket in Le Chatelard was fine for food shopping but there are very few other shops in the town so it feels quite rural and authentically French, great if you want something away from the bustling ski village experience which we find a bit hectic for us, but not so good if you want ski facilities, shops and cafes right on your doorstep. We did not get to sample the local restaurants much due to being on a tight budget, but did enjoy a lovely fondue savoyarde at a restaurant in La Feclaz on the last night. Quite a few restaurants and shops were closed for family holidays over the Christmas/New Year period and also no boats were running on Annecy Lake then, which surprised us a bit as there were plenty of holiday makers in Annecy, but it is perhaps an area known more for summer holidays. The traffic queues around Chambery indicate this town is perhaps more known for skiing and we had to give up on a visit there, due to long traffic delays. However, we had no trouble at all travelling in Les Bauges area around Le Chatox and accessing various smaller ski stations with a Landrover and an Astra (with snow chains in the boot as and when needed). Wished we could have stayed another week and certainly hope to return. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday.

Lovely stay
My husband and I spent a wonderful week in the Chatox. We skied every day at Aillons or Margeriaz resorts, and on our 'day off' drove to Annecy for a buzzy evening. Clean, comfortable, wonderful views, a wood-burning stove, with the perfect mix of sun by the chalet and snow on the pistes - what more could you want?! A truly relaxing holiday.

fantastic holiday retreat
What can I say. Just returned from a fantastic week away at the 'Chatox' with family and friends. Great property in a superb location. Clean and well maintained it had everything we needed and more. As first time skiers, Paul and Wendy were so helpful in explaining the area, where to hire ski gear etc and were only a phone call/email away if you needed any advice. There are about 5 ski resorts in area and are all only a short drive away. The kids loved it and can't wait to return in the future. I would highly recommend the 'Chatox' for the perfect holiday in France. Thanks to Paul and Wendy for sharing their home with us The Forrest family the Forrest family

snowy christmas
Stayed here for a week over Christmas and had the most amazing time. Although on arrival in Le Chatelard the grass was green and the snow was only on the mountain peaks opposite, on Boxing Day we awoke to a winter wonderland. We managed to get out skiing almost every day and the nearby resorts of Margeriaz, Mont Revard and Feclaz proved to be great playgrounds for us to ski in. Fantastic chalet with all the essential creature comforts we could wish for and a cosy wood burner to enhance the ambience. Would heartily recommend to anyone who likes a good value skiing holiday. PS Take snowchains. We hired them with the hirecar and needed them when the snow came.
