Log Castle - On the Beach, Expansive Sound/Mountain View

Formerly a highly rated bed and breakfast, the Log Castle is now available for home rentals. Built with logs harvested from family property, the Log Castle is a warm and welcoming haven for your family and friends. Its eclectic design, stunning water views from most rooms, and beachfront location make it an ideal home base for your vacation. Enjoy the beach, with a wide sandbar, 2 small (kid) and 2 adult size kayaks for paddling, a raft for swimming, and miles of low-populated beach. If your timing is good, you can even watch whales surfacing in the bay just off the deck. The kitchen has been renovated, with stainless appliances, granite counter top, and a 180 degree water view. The large fireplace in the living room makes for a comfortable and cozy retreat. Miles of walking trails extend through the woods across the road. The charming village of Langley is a mile and a half away - a five minute drive or a walk along the beach - with shops, galleries, restaurants, and more. One highlight of the Log Castle is that the kitchen and two bedrooms are each in the eight-sided tower - try not to argue over who gets the top tower room with its phenomenal views. Fishing and swimming (especially when the tide has come in over a sunny sandbar) - make for wonderful family memories.

Bedroom 1 (main floor): Two sets of bunk beds (four singles)
Bedroom 2 (2nd floor): Queen bed, plus queen sleep sofa in adjacent sitting room
Bedroom 3 (2nd floor tower): King bed
Bedroom 4 (3rd floor tower): Queen bed plus sleep sofa
All bedrooms have private en suite baths

Kitchen is fully equipped with dishes for 14. The dining table - a great conversation piece made from a base cut of a log harvested in the 1920s - seats eight comfortably and ten if you're good friends.

Wifi and cable are provided; cell phone reception is adequate but not ideal in all areas of the house.

A charming one-bedroom cottage just steps down the hill is now available for rental, if additional sleeping space is needed. It can be rented independently or, if available, in conjunction with the Log Castle. See more information at vrbo.com/4360509.

There is an attached owner occupied apartment, so we can answer any questions or address any issues you may have either in person or by text. Also a 10:00 pm quiet time is requested.

Log Castle
Our family had a wonderful stay at the Log Castle. It was great for the kids to play and for the adults to relax. Lea was a warm host and even made us pies from the berries we collected from her berry plants.

Best VRBO stay I've ever had
We loved everything about our stay at the Log Castle: the communication with the owners, being greeted at the house when we arrived, the location, the house itself, everything. We went with a group of 4 adults and 5 kids (ages 7-9) and everyone loved it. We saw a grey whale swim past the house one evening and loved the noisy 15+ harbor seals on the nearby dock. The kitchen and bathrooms had everything we could ask for. I'm already discussing another trip back here with my parents and sister's famly, since I know they'll love it too. Thank you so much for letting us staying at your magical abode.

Great weekend away
We spent Memorial Day weekend here with a few families. It was a perfect spot. Easy beach access and we could always see what the kids were up to from the house. We hiked every day on the trails, walked the beach, and had a wonderful time overall. Hosts were very personable and great to work with. Thanks

Beautiful
Such an interesting place to stay. The building was different from anything we had ever stayed at. It felt more like we were staying in a light house than a castle. We came in for a family wedding and stayed just a few days. The location of the home couldn't have been any better. It's right on the water and close to town.

This home is amazing! The attention to detail in the design is captivating. Everyone who stayed with us loved being there. There are kayaks, trails across the street, and it is near town. The hosts were very nice. For a special and relaxing experience, this is worth splurging for.

A Magical Experience!
There almost aren’t adequate words to describe the experience of staying here. A stunningly beautiful property with many hidden surprises to discover, you (like us) won’t want to leave when the time comes. In addition to the seals, eagles and occasional whale, the property is beautifully landscaped. Property Managers were extremely pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended!

Exceptionally unique
This was my second visit to the Log Castle. There are so many special aspects to it! It makes for a very unique, special gathering place. We enjoyed the large kitchen and dining room, chatting by the fireplace, kayaking with porpoises, comfortable sleeping arrangements, gorgeous sunrises and more. I am grateful we had the opportunity to stay. Everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Loved the log castle
Great home for our family vacation..disappointed to find a camera in a stuffed animal and one at the door..owner emailed saying she thought we had more guests than registered...I guess she was confused after spying on camera because we had exactly as registered...wish the camera had been disclosed..the kids loved the kayaks and beach..although beach is muddy at low tide... no hard sand..overall a good experience

Fantastic destination
You will never see a more original log house in your life. Worth staying here just for the house itself! The fact that it's right on the water with an incredible view is almost just a bonus! Fully equipped huge kitchen. Three super comfortable adult bedrooms with bathrooms and a great bunk room if you have kids. All the rooms have the most incredible views. Comfortable dining set up for a large group. We were there in winter weather which was fun but I can see how it would be a fantastic summer destination as well. Everything was absolutely perfect with our stay. The hosts met us when we checked in which was very handy. They had messaged us about opening the front door. When I saw the email I thought , good grief, I think I know how to open a front door but it was actually a good thing they met us there. There are many unique and interesting aspects to this wonderful home and opening the front door is one of them. Go figure! Would happily stay there again.

Just what we needed
Our family came together at the Log Castle to heal from the unexpected loss of our son and to celebrate his life. Lea provided an easel to hold a large tribute board we brought that was dedicated to him. The setting was perfect - serene and peaceful. There was something for everyone to do - walks along the beach (we walked to Langley), the kids took the kayaks out, we walked the forest trails across the highway and we enjoyed the gorgeous views from the deck and inside the house. The kitchen was well-equipped and there was plenty of counter space. There were extra tables and chairs to set up for a larger group. We were all impressed by the craftsmanship of this home done by Lea's dad. Our daughter-in-law said this was her favorite place that we had ever chosen for a family get together. We hope we get the opportunity to stay at the Log Castle again.

Great House!
We absolutely loved this house...from the time we walked thru the unique front door, the beautiful views from the kitchen and bedrooms, to the deck overlooking the bay. We had 4 adults and 3 kids (12, 13 & 15yrs) and had plenty of room. Both tower rooms have their own bathrooms (the adults stayed in those - breathtaking views!), and the teens ended up sharing the bedroom w/ sitting room, they also had their on bathroom. The landscape was beautiful, we loved the tire steps leading down to the beach. We saw eagles, a couple of sea lions and heron while out on the deck...a great way to start each morning! The location was perfect for us, close enough to run into town for forgotten items, but didn't feel like we were on top of other vacationers. We only saw one other person on our beach the whole time we were there. We just can't say enough about this house and the town of Langley...the people were some of the most friendly people I've met. And make sure you visit the glass blowers in town - I can't remember the name of the shop, but you can't miss it. We would love to stay here again!

Beauty, character, nature, and connection!
My friends and I stayed here for the weekend and are completely enamored by the property. Lea was so friendly in the best way, I felt like I could have chatted with her all day, but didn’t feel intruded on either. Lea and Dennis were outside doing some updates and we felt welcome to be outside on the beach. We had a group of adults laughing and singing along to our favorite throw back tunes which got a little loud despite my best efforts, so I checked in with Lea and she agreed that we could bring it down a notch and we tucked away into a back room once it got late. The beds were all comfortable, the cabin had so much character and history (which we loved reading about!), there were plenty of towels and linens, the kitchen had all of the utensils/pots/pans etc we needed, and the kayaks were a lovely bonus. P.s. The dock that floats out front holds approximately 18 harbor seals; wake up for the sunrise to see them before they scatter at daylight! We did a very thorough clean of the upstairs levels and washed extra loads of laundry to make things easier on them once we left. I would recommend this place to others! :)

Amazing house, stunning views
Our family was on a multi-generational trip to Alaska and Washington, and our stay at the Log Castle was definitely a highlight! The house is an amazing structure, and its story makes it all the more special. The view from the living room and the porch are just stunning, and with the tide going in and out, the view and wildlife change throughout the day. We saw bald eagles, seals, crabs, heron, and more, plus we went clamming and fishing right down on the beach and had some luck. Mrs. Headley and her helpers were such a pleasure -- very accommodating and kind -- and the house is well appointed with a great kitchen. The house has a few quirks, like learning to use the unique and handmade door handles, as well as a few minor problems, like the smoke alarm going off when we used the oven, but those were easily overcome. The only other concern I'd point out is that the walkway down to the water is made of tires with no handhold, so although it makes a really cool-looking path, it was not safe for my 71-year-old dad. He didn't visit the beach, but he was very happy to be on the porch and enjoy the view from above, so it really wasn't a problem for us, but something future renters should consider. We found Whidbey Island to be a charming place, especially the town of Langley. Great shopping, a wonderful farmers market, and friendly folks. However, if you stay at the Log Castle, I highly recommend leaving yourself plenty of downtime to just enjoy the view, explore the house, walk along the beach (at low tide!), and sit in one of the nooks and read a book. It's a destination in itself, not just a place to sleep.
