Luxury Riverside Cottage - Come and enjoy our Shack on the River!

This stunning luxury cottage is located on the Ausable River at the mouth of Lake Huron in the beach town Port Franks. It is in the perfect location to view the most spectacular sunsets in Canada. You can kayak, fish, and view the many birds and wildlife on the river, enjoy the sandy beach nearby plus there are trails for hiking and biking. It is the ideal spot to make amazing memories for years to come.

The year-round cottage is truly gorgeous. It is a two-story open concept with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing an abundance of natural light. It has a fully equipped kitchen, sleeps 7 guests in beds, a large master bedroom with a balcony, a luxurious ensuite bathroom with a jetted tub, and an outside patio deck with a fire pit and BBQ. And for cool nights a gas fireplace in the family room. There are four kayaks and (occasionally one canoe) available for your use.

You will find Port Franks to be a charming community with hiking and biking trails, a huge sand dune to conquer, and a community centre with a playground and tennis court. Lake Huron boasts glorious sandy beaches with warm shallow waters perfect for families with children. And, if you want more adventure, you can always drive the 15 minutes down the road to Grand Bend boulevard and beach.

We all need something to make life interesting, engaging and enjoyable. Welcome to our Riverside Shack. Should you decide to stay we truly hope that it will be a BLESSING to you and bring a slice of JOY and BEAUTY into your life.

The hot tub is an indoor hot tub.
Access by Owner - The Owner reserves the right to access the outside property, dock/boating area at any time, without notice.
Sleeping Arrangements - It is important to note that it is a tight fit with 9 guests in this cottage. There is a pull-out sofa in the family room for (potentially) two guests but the mattress is not very comfortable for more than a 1- or 2-night use.

Beautiful cottage
This was a beautiful cottage on the canal that we all found so peaceful and comfortable. The interior of the cottage was very sheik and clean. Lots of space for the 7 of us to stay for a week. Close jaunt to the beach or we could lounge beside the canal on the large deck and enjoy the boats passing by. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you riverside shack!

Great getaway
We had a great stay at this cottage on the river. We enjoyed the large kitchen and were able to cook an entire thanksgiving dinner for the five us there. We enjoyed walks down to the beach, sitting on the dock in the sun, and hiking in the nearby trails. The cottage was clean , the beds were comfy and it was a great place to relax and watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

Wonderful place and location
The sunset and the view are amazing, the kayaks very entertaining, and the host extremely welcoming, flexible and helpful. The kids had a lot of fun fishing, swimming and kayaking. The cottage is beautiful and has almost everything you can think of in case you forget something. We only spent 4 days there but we will be coming back for sure.

The property and amenities were great overall. The owners were amazing in all aspects and very responsive. The area is a little tough with young ones as the water was very dirty and a lot of passing boats close by which we didn’t realize. After talking to neighbours it sounds like the water was so poor because of all the rain this season. We also woke up one morning and the outside of the home was swarmed with mayflies which the owners did mention when we arrived and said it was unlikely to happen but unfortunately it did. Otherwise the home was as picture and clean with very comfy beds.

The perfect weekend getaway
Margo's cottage was the perfect place to spend a holiday weekend with friends. The space was clean and slept 6 ppl (3 couples) comfortably. We spent most of our time out back playing lawn games and grilling on the porch. Margo was kind enough to let us use their kayak's which provided a great way to access the beach fronts on Lake Huron. The sunsets were stunning! Can't recommend this place enough.

Simply amazing!
Wow! What a gem to find! The property surpassed our expectations and far outweighed the description and photo’s. An idyllic retreat, beautifully situated right on the lake with the added bonus of the kayak’s - which kept our two teens entertained. They absolutely loved being on the lake as the sun was setting - memories they will hopefully treasure forever. The property itself was very clean and the beds! Oh so comfortable. Margo herself didn’t disappoint, she was as lovely as I had hoped from her email communication and was very helpful throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this accommodation and will definitely be staying again.

Wonderful property and location.
This property is incredibly clean and accommodated our family of 7 easily. All the amenities were modern and the layout of drawers and cupboards intuitive. The proximity to the magnificent community beach makes this property a must for any family looking forward to enjoying sand and water. Located on the water we enjoyed magnificent sunsets, sightings of deer, and many different water fowl. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and is prompt in responding to ones questions.

Stayed 2 nights for a girls getaway. Was greeted by host who is lovely. Home is beautiful and was stocked with everything we needed. Location is perfect. Short distance to beautiful beach. Enjoyed watching the boats going by as well as the beautiful sunsets. Not to mention the fish jumping and 2 deer that we got to see graze both mornings and nights. Wonderful weekend getaway
It was hard to leave come Sunday morning. The house, the view, the location. We saw stunning sunsets and peaceful sunrises. We enjoyed our weekend girls’ trip so much and this was the perfect spot to do it. Kayaking. Using the cottage as a home base to explore the area. The home was clean and well cared for and we felt safe and had an excellent time. The owner was also extremely helpful and great with communication! Beautiful and cozy but....
Beautiful home in a great location. Was very well stocked with everything we needed to host a 60th Anniversary and Christmas with our family. Cozy and warm and beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Unfortunately there were few issues that we felt would have been good to know prior to our booking. The bath could not be used was an inconvenience with young children. We realize that flood damaged floors were beyond owners control however the uneven floor from the buckling planks made it somewhat dangerous for the elderly visitors that we had. Lastly, we assumed that there was cable or satellite service but there wasn't. Not a huge deal but would have been nice to know especially with children. Thankfully there were some appropriate DVD movies there to view. Would definitely book again once all the repairs are completed.
