Our lakehouse offers access to two lakes in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The lakehouse fronts on Bald Mountain Lake, which is reserved for non-motorized water recreation. Our guests have access to our 4-seat Sea Eagle boat with quiet E-propulsion electric motor to explore the lake. We also provide 2 Stand Up Paddleboards and 2 kayaks. The large, flat back yard offers a fire-pit (we provide firewood) and plenty of space to hang out and play. Buffalo Creek flows through the property and into the lake. The lakehouse has a fireplace and hot tub. Buffalo Creek Park, which includes miles of hiking trails, is a pleasant five minute walk from our house. The property has high-speed wi-fi (200 Mbps) and we provide a free Level 2 EV charging station. Our property was impacted by Hurricane Helene on Sept 27, 2024. Pictures of the property have not yet been updated since the storm. Please read the full update at the end of the description below for more details.
Our home includes five bedrooms and three bathrooms. We have a fireplace in the living room (we provide fire-logs during the cool months) and a screened porch on the second level with views of the lake. We have an outdoor gas grill (we provide the propane).
Our property is within the Resort at Rumbling Bald which has frontage on Lake Lure. Guests can enjoy the amenities of the resort, which include:

Hurricane Helene Update: Our property was impacted by the historic flooding in western NC from Hurricane Helene on Sept 27, 2024. Fortunately, the lakehouse was not damaged. However, Buffalo Creek experienced significant flooding that has changed the appearance of the property along the lake shore. We have closed the lakehouse until May 1, 2025 so we have time to restore the property.
One change to the property that we may not be able to rectify in 2025 is that the flooding of Buffalo Creek deposited a significant amount of sand into the confluence of the creek and Bald Mountain Lake, which has made it too shallow for us to put the dock back in place (it was washed away in the flood but we found it across the lake!). We are hopeful the lake will be dredged again to restore the lake to its original depth but we don't know when that will occur at this time. Our guests will still have access to the Sea Eagle Boat, SUPs and kayaks, but we can not guarantee when the dock will be back in place.
We will be installing new landscaping on the property in March - April of 2025 and will post updated photos of the backyard and lake at the end of April. Recognizing that the new landscaping will take some time to get fully established, and since we are unsure when the dredging will be performed, we are offering the lakehouse at a discounted rate in 2025 (about $150 a night lower) relative to our previous rates.
As of this writing (Dec 2024) the water on Bald Mountain Lake and Lake Lure have not returned to their usual shimmering blue-green color. A lot of sediment flowed into the lakes from the storm and it will take time for it to all settle. If you make a reservation with us, we are happy to provide ongoing and honest updates on how the restoration process is going. We have a generous cancellation policy if you decide to change your plans as we get closer to the date of your booking.
