"The stay was booked as a 40th birthday present. From pre arrival to departure we felt very welcomed. The pre arrival information was vary useful. As this was for a birthday break there is an optional extra to have the room decorated and a cake supplied. A very nice surprise for any unsuspecting guest. The owners and staff are very friendly. I have to mention the decor, it's amazingly quirky and very well done, no matter which room you're in you're eye gets drawn to something interesting....

"Stayed for 2 nights with my wife. In a comfy room which had been refurbished. The room was compact but unless you were planning to spend a whole day in the room, it was perfect for sleeping and getting ready for the day. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who showed us to our room and explained the facilities and was really friendly along with the other staff throughout our stay. The car park is small, but a decent one is just round the corner (£9 for a day, so spent £18 on top of the cost of the hotel) The breakfasts were great, with a good selection of cooked food. "The hotel is set in the picture book village of Hawkshead. The place itself is a beautiful old house with original features throughout. The rooms are a good size with really comfortable beds and are pet friendly. The village itself is beautiful, with several different places to eat and within walking distance of Ambleside (6 miles).
