## Emplacement
In the heart of the Vaucluse, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is an old fishing village nicknamed the "Venice of Comtadine". It is one of the most attractive cities in Provence. The birthplace of the poet René Char, l'Isle sur la Sorgue is a small paradise of greenery crossed by numerous arms of the Sorgue on which old paddle wheels still turn. In its old center, lanes and canals intertwine. Stairs go down to the wash houses and quays along the river. A former fishing village (until the 19th century), L'Isle sur la Sorgue has forged a strong image among art and antique lovers. More than 300 permanent antique and second-hand dealers are open all year round (Saturday/Sunday/Monday and sometimes more), making the town one of the most important European antique markets. The big Easter and August 15th fairs bring together five hundred exhibitors and attract thousands of bargain hunters from France and abroad. To see: the villages of antique dealers, the baroque collegiate church Notre-Dame-des-Anges; the 17th century Hôtel Dieu with its vestibule, its chapel, its pharmacy and its garden decorated with a fountain; the Donadeï de Campredon hotel which houses exhibitions of contemporary art, the site of the division of waters, the toy and antique doll museum, the large Provençal market on Sunday mornings, the floating market in August, fishing of yesteryear in July, nautical fairs in July...
