Very nice, clean hostel
This was a great place to stay during our one-night stay in Kyoto. We got a private, corner room with our own bathroom and the room and bathroom were very clean. The futons were nice and comfortable, and it was a quiet, peaceful stay (the staff emphasize the importance of being quiet at night, which is a plus in my book!). The location of the hostel is not close to many of the things you would want to do in Kyoto and it's also a 15+minute walk to/from Kyoto Station. BUT, there are two restaurants around the corner with good food, and just a block away is a public bath house that is open 24hrs. It was VERY nice and it cost under 5yen per person. I highly recommend it. For those who don't mind a bit of a walk or want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the high-traffic tourist areas, this place is perfect.

Warm and comfortable Japanese style accommodation
Staff are friendly and the room we stayed in was clean. It has a common kitchen with a couple of supermarkets nearby, onsite coin operated laundry (200 yen, detergent provided) and dryer (100 yen per 30 min), comfortable common areas. It's pretty central, 15min walk from the main JR station. There are other stations nearby and walkable distance to a few temples and tourist attractions.

Lovely stay. Room clean and comfortable. Family enjoyed the traditional style of sleeping on the floor. Staff friendly and helpful, giving us great help and advice in navigating in the city. Definitely recommend.

Small, quaint, and cute
The rooms are small, as are the bathrooms, but they don't advertise anything more. It's very cute, perfect for a short stay, and is in a great location close to the station. The price vs value was as expected, and we found it perfect.

Nice stay - something different
We enjoyed our stay. It is a little isolated, with few restaurants nearby but a walk in the small streets is interesting anyway.

Nice central location
Couple in a twin room. Rooms were nice and comfortable and staff very nice. The hotel was in a nice central location and had very useful tourist and restaurant guides. The rooms however are a bit dark at night and the walls are paper thin so can be a bit noisy if your neighbours are out late.

Average stay in Kyoto.
When I arrived here the staff were dressed up in cute kimonos. The lady who orientated me to the place was nice but her co-staff member could use a smile and some patience when trying to explain what I couldn't understand from the other lady. Overall the stay was average. Cant say it was anything special compared to the other places I have stayed in Japan. The one thing I was really disappointed about was that I wasn't shown where the public bath was when I arrived. It was located in the building next door and I only found out as I was checking out to get my suitcase in their storage room.

Ryokan at a reasonable price
We liked this place! Most of the guests were younger than us, but that wasn't a problem. the room was fine, not too small and the futon ok too. I could have done with a lamp. And a TV I suppose. The loos weren't too far for a night time trip! There are rules of the house, but they are put in a cute book, so that seems ok. The kitchen and laundry facilities would be really useful if you were staying for a while. Its very quirky, and set in a typical quiet residential area. We found it a bit difficult to get a nearby breakfast, and eat locally, but we managed. Go north to the main road where the Fresca convenience store is and turn right...you'll find something. Be prepared to walk in Kyoto! The city is stuffed with amazing places, but you need more than the 2 nights we had.

Traditional Japanese Experience in Central Kyoto
Thought we'd try a Japanese Inn (Ryokan) in Kyoto and we were very pleased with the experience! Our room in the attic of Oyado Sato had a separate room for the kids with 2 futons in each so plenty of sleeping space. The ceiling was low in places but still with plenty of usable space in the room. The en-suite was compact but fully functional (bath / shower / sink / toilet). The staff were friendly and helpful and provided a good map with all the useful local places (they can also phone out for takeaways and sell day bus passes). We enjoyed the traditional Japanese Breakfast a couple of times which was a great experience.

Really hard to find! But good stay
Overall a good stay, its a no bells and whistles Ryokan, a very back packer feel to it.. Staff was nice and helpful, gave us directions and helped our stay... The rooms were small... tini-tiny bathroom was attached. They kept it clean... I wish they would vacuum everyday as sleeping near the floor on the Japanese futons you can see each speck of dirt and hair around you! I advise you to get written directions in Japanese if you are not familiar with that language, as this place is quite tucked away and almost impossible to find without the cabbie calling the hotel!

Very helpful staff!!!
The inn is pretty easy to find and close to Gojo station. My overall experience is pretty good. I love the location of the inn since it is near Kyoto station. The staffs were very helpful and answered any question that I had. As for the room it is nice and comfy. Just note that they are not too big but it was nice experience over all. I would also recommend trying out their kimono(it cost about 1,800 yen) and taking pictures. I would definitely recommend this place and stay here again If i return to Kyoto again.

Adorable guest house in Kyoto
We had a very nice, comfortable stay here. It's perfect for experiencing a quaint, traditional Japanese guest house without having to spend a ton of money. Definitely has a backpacker feeling to it at the front desk, but we loved the cozy private room upstairs with roll out mats, and were provided with robes and slippers. The tiny tiny bathroom still had a soaking tub! The staff is very friendly and you can rent bikes for 500 yen/day. The common room area is very nice, as was the delicious and filling Japanese breakfast that is served just across the lane way. It's not super close to any subways, so be prepared to walk. The street is nice and quiet. We would definitely stay again!
