Comfortble tree-shaded bohemian-style interior, midcentury modern architecture retreat with full view of sunsets over the bay, dog friendly, well supplied kitchen, 2 kayaks along inland canal.
Nice sized house on a very quiet woodsy street across the street from Currituck Sound. Dog-friendly house with a large fenced backyard backing up to a canal. Great street to walk the dog. The house comes with parking passes to a great nearby beach on the ocean. Close to Duck and Southern Shores shops and eateries.
Nice quiet location in a wooded neighborhood. Beautiful park across the street with small beach and dock, a perfect spot to watch sunsets over the sound. The screen porch was great for dining and relaxing. The canal behind the house was also a nice for fishing. Short easy trip to the beach with a parking pass. Hosts were very helpful and quick to respond to questions.
A whimsical home in a quiet wooded neighborhood with a relaxing full view of the Currituck Sound from the front windows. Our kids are older teens and didn’t mind the drive to the beach. Loved the access to kayaks for the canal and it’s a great place to bicycle. It was such a fun house and a perfect place to chase away our 2020 blues!
This was our first vacation in the Outer Banks and we could not have picked the more perfect location for our family. Having the sound directly across the street with beautiful sunsets was incredible and the beach was five minutes away. It was nice to be in between the town of Duck and Kitty Hawk as they each offer their own ambience.
The house is decorated in vibrant colors and eclectic decor so the rooms had a fun feel about them
Communication with the host was spot on and we appreciated their effort to make our stay wonderful.
This was totally my fault for not asking, but we did not realize the loft was mid floor with no door or privacy for my teenage son. We literally walked past him trying to hang out in the bedroom on his own so it was a tad bit awkward for him. Just an FYI for those needing three bedrooms with privacy and again not a fault for the owner, we did not ask about the house set up.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 day stay at Blue Heron. The rain limited the sunsets, but the sound of the heavy rain on the roof in the beautiful sunroom, where I knitted every day, was awesome and made up for sunsets. The vibrant colors and unique decor throughout the home made it a “fun” stay and the kitchen did have everything one needed. Having the quiet, very nice park across the street was an added bonus to go for walks with my new rescue Sweet Pea. This was my first time on the Sound side and if I choose the Sound side again I would definitely stay at this home. A young family with children would certainly enjoy kayaking in the canal out back and also the huge screened porch for games, corn hole, etc. There is another flight of stairs to all bedrooms which is not shown in the pics which limited my trips upstairs but having a bathroom on first level was perfect! I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Liz for sharing your home with everyone and Elisha your communication was outstanding. It is a very quiet neighborhood with friendly people all around. I do hope to return sometime.
This is our 2nd stay at this lovely home and we truly enjoyed it. The house has the amenities we look for in a rental in the Outer Banks (OBX),such as location close to the beach but not directly in a crowded area, stores, shopping & restaurants which are a very short drive away, a waterway directly in the private fenced-in back yard (great for our dogs) which leads out to the sound and thus is very convenient to drop in a kayak (single ones provided) and a bonus, the lovely private neighborhood beach and park on the sound is directly across the street. This park is a wonderful location to relax at the end of the day and see some of the most beautiful sunsets. There is also a gas grill for cookouts in a screened large porch that directly faces the backyard.
On this visit, which was earlier that the general vacation season when we last visited, two things we encountered which only mother nature controls. It rained a good part of our visit and also the water level in the backyard waterway was much lower than last visit and thus too great a distance from the embankment to drop in a kayak and also lower one's self into a boat.
Light rain in OBX is generally no problem as there are many alternative activities such as walking, hiking paths in nature preserves, the beach and various parks and lighthouses.
Lastly regarding the regarding the house itself, it was immaculate, had ample space, kitchen to cook in, cable TV. We look forward to future visits with these excellent hosts!
This place was a really neat place for our vacation. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to fully enjoy the outside portion of it because our stay was during hurricane Ian.
We had at least two days to enjoy the outside and we definitely took advantage of the fishing out back in the creek (caught a nice large mouth and saw two otters swimming by), fires at night and of course some beaching time! We were able to see two sunsets out of the 8 days and they were breathtaking! Really cool to see so many deer running around the community and even right out back of the house!
There are a few things that could use some upgrading.. there are sidewalk boards down at the fire pit and the blue painted walkway to the screened in porch that, if you step on them, will fly up and you’ll either trip or get smacked in the shin, which definitely hurts.. I guess they just need a few fresh nails and would be fine but we didn’t have that with us to fix ourselves.
Also, there is very little outdoor lighting on the back screened in porch so we bought 4 sets of Christmas rope lights at Walmart hoping it would help but unfortunately it wasn’t enough light for everyone when we hosted our crab boil night with the rest of the family, so we ate indoors instead. The twin bedroom, the master bedroom and the living room could really use some more lighting.
And lastly, the home could use a little deep cleaning. We’ve seen many cobwebs- which most were in the dinning room and kitchen. And dust/ food crumbs on areas that usually weren’t touched in the kitchen/ living room but since we were indoors a lot we came across them more then other people have I guess. There were also some stray hairs in the bathrooms that were missed during cleanup before our stay..
We really did enjoy staying here and do not want to pick apart the property because it truly is beautiful and the home owner Liz and her daughter Elisha were both amazing with any help or questions during the stay! We are just hoping these few things listed help make the Blue Heron even better for others. :)

Not senior citizen as with disability friendly
Overall we had great vacation in kitty hawk, the house was not senior citizen with disabilities friendly as there were lot of steps to climb daily( my fault as I did not research the property well enough or ask enough questions)one would think though that the owner would display there home with more pictures so that people would know this, they had one picture that was dark and u could only see 2 steps, we couldn’t enjoy the backyard as it was not easily accessible with our disabilities, with that being said my husband and I left Thursday and we were scheduled to stay till Sunday, our friends left Friday, but I have learned a hard lesson, ask questions and do better research!!
We really loved our time here. The location is perfect for a quiet time away from the crowds. An easy walk across the street for sunsets, an easy bike ride or car to the beach / Duck town center. We loved utilizing the screened in back porch, kayaks and front sunroom.
We had a great stay and would be happy to stay again! We aren't big on hussle and bustle so this was perfect and only a short drive to stores and the beach (about 10 mins). The view at the park was just stunning and we watched nearly every sunset. It also helped to be at one of the first lights when arriving and when leaving with everyone else. Less traffic!! Owners were very helpful and we were very happy to be able to bring our dogs with us.
The sunroom was our favorite! The house is well stocked and we didn't feel like we needed to get anything extra.
If you are looking for a relaxing stay away from the crowds, this is it!
Oh! Geocachers, there is a cache across the street!
We just had a lovely week here! We are a family of four with dogs. We loved how close the house was to the beach. We also enjoyed walking the dogs a few times each day to the end of the dead end street and back. The neighborhood is beautiful. The park across the street is beautiful too.
The beds were comfortable and so was the living space. We had quite a bit of rain the week we were there so we spent a lot of time playing board games and reading and it was a comfortable home to be in for that! The kitchen was fully equipped, and having a washer a dryer was great. We would definitely like to stay here again!
This home was perfect for our family and pets. The view of the Sound from the sun room was spectacular. We enjoyed walking across the road to Soundview park each evening to watch the sunset.
We would love to visit again next summer.
Loved this house! What stood out immediately upon entering was the sunlight. There were so many windows and sliding doors that invited the outside light in. The sunroom was our absolute favorite room. We watched the beautiful sunsets over the sound right from plant-filled sunroom. The kitchen was fully stocked! But what stands out he most was the layout of the house. There were knooks and decks around every corner with access to the outdoors. We watched deer feed on the green across the canal from the backyard . I especially liked Elisha's playful use of color. The coral and teal sunroom again was the most lived-in room because of the colors and abundant house plants and big picture widow facing the sound.
Terrific location ! Spectacular sunsets on the sound, kayaks available for exploring around the various creeks. A colorful, artistically interesting house. Had a great time.
Our stay at Sean & Elisha's house was lovely. They were wonderful hosts and provided many amenities that contributed to a warm and inviting stay. Even the little things made a difference such as a variety of drinks in the frig, bathroom accoutrements, a grill movies, Netflix access and more. They also provided a pair of kayaks to paddle the lovely waterway directly in the fenced in backyard. The backyard also contained a firepit and chairs to relax. The house itself was immaculate, spacious and inviting and the hosts were very receptive and inquired if we needed anything. The neighborhood was lovely and the amount of nearby restaurants and shopping was extensive for the Outer Banks. For those who like to take walks, there were a variety of parks and nature paths close by and waterways for boating. for boating. The park directly across the street had an incredible view of the water with spectacular sunsets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again in the future.
My parents and I have been coming down to the outer banks for 26 years now. Usually we stay ocean front, this was our first time trying sound front and WOW! This was by far our most relaxing vacation! The pictures of the house don’t do it justice! The place is way bigger inside in person! Sean and Elisha were very responsive when I messaged them and they let me know when the cable/internet would be down for maintenance (over night). Enjoyed our time and thank you Sean and Elisha for having us!!
We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The home and neighborhood is beautiful. There is a great sunset most nights just across the street at the sound. Everything was convenient for trips to the beach. The home is decorated beautifully and the kitchen is fully equipped. We were very satisfied.
Our family really enjoyed our stay here. Located in a wonderfully shaded neighborhood directly across from a park with the Sound for beautiful sunset views. Nice quiet neighborhood to walk and exercise in and very friendly neighbors. Lots of deer sightings right out front of the house. House was clean and owners provided beach access parking passes as well as 2 kayaks we really enjoyed using. Small maintenance issue was restored super quick and painlessly. Screened in area was fun to use and our dog enjoyed the fenced in yard. Unique layout of the home allowed the 5 of us plenty of space to spread out.
We were blessed enough to find this whimsical property for our 5 week stay until we closed on our new home. Having the sound across the street and the canal on the back was just incredible! And the under house “living room” with cozy swing was nothing short of marvelous! We loved meeting the owner when she came to help us with the koi pond and the communication throughout was the best I’ve ever had. Cannot recommend this property and it’s owners enough! We don’t want to leave! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!!!
