The Fold
The Fold is a recent barn conversion situated in a quiet cul de sac, in the picturesque village of Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. Built on 2 floors it offers spacious accommodation for two It has a cosy, homely atmosphere as it is my own home in the winter.
Ground Floor
The ground floor features a large sitting room with wood burner stove, TV and DVD , a study with a double futon for occasional use and a family bathroom with a wash basin, wc and bath.
The dining kitchen is equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine, toaster, kettle, cutlery, crockery, additional kitchen equipment and a dining table with 4 chairs. Patio doors lead from the kitchen to a newly completed sun room overlooking the secluded garden with garden furniture and wide ranging uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside to the Penines.
First Floor
There is one double bedroom with extensive views . Duvet and bed linen are provided. There is a bathroom with shower cubicle, wc and wash basin. Towels are provided.
Heating
Oil central heating plus wood burner. Oil and wood are provided free.
Wi-fi is available.
Parking
There is off-road private parking for 2 cars.
Your dog/s will have a great time although please be aware this is sheep country. The garden is enclosed by a stone wall.
The Fold enjoys a tranquil location with stunning views from the rear across the upper Eden valley to the Penines. There is immediate access to many walks in the surrounding area. It is central for visiting the Eden Valley, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lake District National Park and the North Pennines. The wild-life nature reserve of Smardale Gill with its famous viaduct is close by with a great variety of birds, butterflies and flora. Red squirrels and deer are often seen. The coast-to-coast long distance walk passes through Smardale on its way to Kirkby Stephen and the Nine Standards yomp. Crosby Garrett fell is a good walk with views of the Howgills and the Lakeland fells. Or you can just sit outside and watch the clouds on the Penines.
Yorkshire with its huge range of attractions s easily reached - the Dales begin at Mallerstang, five miles from Kirkby Stephen and the National Park has been extended to include the Howgills and parts of Crosby Garrett.
The Lake District is 30 minutes away with its many and varied attractions.
Crosby Garrett is a pretty village in the upper Eden Valley in Cumbria. It is surrounded on all sides by miles of undulating countryside with extensive views across Cumbria.
Nearby
Settle-Carlisle Railway
The Settle-Carlisle passes close to Crosby Garrett. The line is widely reputed to offer the most picturesque rail journey in the country and is well worth a trip.
Howgills
The nearby Howgills offer superb walking opportunities for those wishing to enjoy the hills without the crowds that can be encountered in the central Lakeland. Book lovers can spend hours browsing in Sedbergh, to the south and there are many pretty villages in the surrounding area.
Kirkby Stephen
The nearest market town is Kirkby Stephen, about 5 miles away. Kirkby Stephen is well served by a number of pubs, restaurants, cafes, antique shops and grocery stores.
Appleby with its famous horse fair is about the same distance, on the river Eden. The tree-lined main street leads to the castle with the ancient church at the lower end and in worth exploring.
Smoking
The Fold is strictly a NO SMOKING establishment. Guests are free to smoke outside on the patio.
