Area
Limburg guarantees Burgundian cosiness and is a boundless mix between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In hilly Limburg, the Maasstadjes route is not only popular among cyclists, this route is also worth sailing!
The home of Otter Easy Houseboats, De Spaanjerd marina on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium, is 5 km from the white town of Thorn, 15 km from Roermond and is connected to large ponds where numerous water sports can be practiced.
It is also connected to an international network of navigable watercourses. De Spaanjerd is also the ideal base for shopping, cycling and walking in the area.
Maasplassen sailing area
The boats from Otter Easy Houseboats are perfect for a relaxed and varied holiday on the water. Get on board and discover what the Maas, the Maasplassen, the Maasstadjes and the Maasvallei have to offer. The largest undiscovered sailing area in the Netherlands feels almost foreign. Here you can sail, swim or just enjoy a terrace or the beautiful nature.
Holiday on your own houseboat on the Maas
Experience the Maas valley, the beautiful border river landscape between Belgian-Dutch Limburg, sailing without a license on an exclusive house boat from Otter Easy Houseboats. The Maas and Maasplassen invite you to make beautiful trips along historic villages such as Maaseik, Thorn and cities such as Roermond and Maastricht. Here the sailing is the goal.
But also anchoring on one of the many Maasplassen is an experience. Here you can swim or simply enjoy doing nothing, where nature shows its most beautiful side. Get a visit from a swan family, spot a kingfisher, discover a beaver castle and see a galloway cow graze.
Our houseboats offer an optimal experience. Mooring and mooring will be a team experience for the entire crew. Enjoy the view of the water, dinner on deck with a bottle of wine or read your favorite book on the sun deck. Romantic for two, with friends or with the whole family, you will look back on this holiday for a long time with great pleasure.
Home port
The home of Otter Easy Houseboats is marina De Spaanjerd, located in Kinrooi on the Grensmaas in Belgian Limburg. The harbor is approximately 15 km from Roermond. A true family marina with the Blue Flag! There are almost 550 berths and due to speed restrictions, sailing is always quiet. De Spaanjerd has many quality facilities, such as nicely equipped playgrounds, a launderette, wifi, clean sanitary facilities, a free fine sandy beach and fun water activities. Tasty food and drinks can be reached within walking distance. The municipality of Kinrooi itself is worth a visit just because of its extensive, signposted cycling and walking route network.
The Otter berths
The spacious berths of Otter houseboats are located on a modern 2.5 meter wide jetty. This jetty is located on a narrow headland with unobstructed views over the harbor, the sailing school and the large recreational lake in front of the harbor. Get on board and immediately feel the freedom of a holiday on the water.
The new and spacious sanitary facilities are only 100 meters from our berths. During your holiday on the houseboat you have all the conveniences at your fingertips!
Our jetty is located in the part of the harbor where mainly luxury motor yachts and sailing yachts have their permanent berth. When the sun is out, you'll quickly imagine yourself on the French Riviera!
Sailing area
Port and sailing area
The boats from Otter Easy Houseboats are located in marina De Spaanjerd. This location is perfect for a relaxed and varied holiday on the water. Get on board and discover what the Maas, the Maasplassen, the Maasstadjes and the Maasvallei have to offer you. The largest undiscovered sailing area in the Netherlands feels almost foreign. Here you can sail, swim or simply enjoy a terrace or the beautiful nature. Even when you do not leave the port there is plenty to do.
Sailing on the Maas
Regen river the Maas meanders through the landscape like a red thread. This is not navigable everywhere, but largely. Heading north you sail downstream, south upstream. The water therefore flows from south to north, on average about 1 to 2 kilometers per hour. However, if it has rained a lot, the flow rate may just be 4 to 5 kilometers per hour and the water level a lot higher. The current makes sailing on the Maas interesting, as well as the countless gravel holes around the river.
MaasPark River Park
Sailing in the gravel holes is child's play. Here the current has suddenly disappeared and you can enjoy a snack or drink on one of the many terraces on the quay. The water in the gravel holes is on average approximately 3 meters deep. In some places it is less deep, such as the atmospheric Roerkade at the mouth of the (non-navigable) Roer. Oh, and in other places it's much deeper again. The water almanac 2 always shows you the correct information. The water almanac 1 and 2 is present on every boat.
We call this river nature, the gravel holes, the Maas valley. The Maas valley is the heart of both Limburgen. This varied landscape is a collection of old river arms, embankments, gravel banks and trenches between Maastricht and Kessenich, more than 40 km along the Belgian-Dutch border. You will find historic villages, beautiful walking routes and large grazers such as the galloway cows.
Belgian Limburg
From the Maas you can enter Belgium via Ophoven. Here the beautiful border river and lake landscape of Belgian Limburg continues. Do you want to sail to Belgium? Allow several days for this. Thanks to the ferry in Ophoven / Ohé and Laak you can quickly explore both banks of the Maas, such as the Flemish walking area Kessenich.
Sailing on the Maasplassen
Sailing on the Maasplassen, a network of large and small lakes, gives you all kinds of possibilities to discover the area with trips. Motor yachts and speedboats are in the majority on the Maasplassen. You can surf and swim, wake boarding or kayaking, go to a beach club or lie on the beach. With an area of more than 3000 hectares, it is the largest continuous water sports area in the Netherlands. Beautiful waterways lead you from one lake to the other, such as the trendy terraces on the Noordplas, the chic restaurants on the Boschmolenplas or the touristy Zuidplas.
Mooring places
At the end of a wonderful day on the water you can choose to moor in a harbor in the city, such as in Roermond, or choose the tranquility of a lake. The various marinas and lakes have a wide range of free mooring places with modern facilities. But also right in front of a town you can sometimes find a perfect berth. The marina at Stevensweert, for example, is located on the edge of this beautiful town and has good facilities.
