Mill House Cottage, Brancaster, Norfolk

Tucked away in Brancaster, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Mill House Cottage offers the opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful villages on the North Norfolk coast. Boasting a glorious beach with miles of unspoilt golden sand, Brancaster is a popular destination throughout the year. This delightful cottage is a perfect retreat for a relaxing break, ideal for couples or groups of up to four.

Walking through the front courtyard garden, you enter Mill House Cottage via a smart A-frame oak conservatory. The ground floor of the cottage is now all on one level with luxurious underfloor heating in all rooms on this level. The conservatory opens to a cosy sitting room set around a wood burning stove to ensure you are kept extra toasty during cooler times of the year. From here, the inner hallway leads round to a very smart fully fitted kitchen with dining area, and a wall of bi-fold doors opening to a private flint walled courtyard - an ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee from the Nespresso coffee machine. There is the convenience of a cloakroom and a handy separate utility on this floor too. Going up the beautiful oak stairway, you will find the two bedrooms, a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed, and the second bedroom with 3' twin beds, both sharing a bathroom with a large walk-in shower, as well as a bath tub.

This dog friendly property is situated within a 20 minutes walking distance to the beach, and just a couple of minutes away from The Ship gastropub, which is popular with locals and visitors. The cottage a super destination for both a chilled out or energetic break. There are endless things to see and do in this wonderful North Norfolk destination - you might find you need to stay longer than you think!

Hayloft, Brancaster, which sleeps two, at the far end of the courtyard can be booked in conjunction with Old Mill Cottage, if both cottages are free. Both cottages can be booked separately or together for larger groups wanting a bit of extra space.

Short stay in Norfolk

Cottage was clean and warm, but needed fire in the evening. I think it would have been nice to have been left at least a few logs and kindling, and there were only 4 matches in the cottage!. It was rather small for two people, unless they are fairly intimate, or at least very good friends.Beds comfortable and kitchen equipment ok. Most places we have stayed before have had a welcome pack. Not expecting much and realise we were self catering, but there was only salt and pepper, and no sugar. Courtyard suitable for dogs but the gate latch was stiff and if left undone, dogs could have escaped straight onto the main road. Would possibly not consider staying there again, with two dogs and proximity to the main road.

Too cold for winter use

Very cold at night, storage radiators useless after 4pm. A few coals and 3 damp logs had been left for our first night, clearly these didn't catch, wouldn't have affected the freezing bedrooms, going to bed was torture! Quite frankly this cottage is unsuitable for a winter letting. PS: A basic welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk would have been appreciated, I'd suggest this is standard practice.

Difficult to find

Mill House Cottage is tucked away in a quite location so much so it is not easy to find. The kitchen is well equipped and the cottage was clean apart from some stains on the carpet in the sitting room.We would stay there again but the owner needs to address some issues before we would stay again. I.E: Damp in the Kitchen by the cooker and damp in the bathroom next to the shower. The open fire needs a grate to have a effective fire( I had to improvise to get a good fire). When using the beds in the winter you need a winter weight duvet not a summer weight. The night store heaters give out good heat in the morning but by early afternoon are only luke warm so you are reliant on the open fire to provide evening heat.

Relaxing break in a lovely village with everything in walking distance Ivor a short drive

Cottage was perfect, lovely and cosy to return to after a drizzly day on the beach A supply of wood/coal for the first evening would have been great. Fantastic location to walk to the beach and Ship in for a tasty meal.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness

Lovely location. Property not so much.

Overall the locality and area is beautiful. However we were disappointed from the start with the property. The outside area badly needed a tidy and clean. The conservatory was grubby and green too. Outside furniture in a small corner was broken. There is no central heating- just dated storage heaters- some with worn/broken controls. It was cold the first night and there was no fire fuel left for us to use as stated in the description. Supplies were low too. Decor was ok - a little dated especially the bathroom and kitchen. The kettle was bunged up badly with lime scale- either de scale it on cleaning or replace now and then. Why leave old curtain rail holders up? and cables hanging off the wall? It's quite small too. If kitted out and up to date we wouldn't have minded but overall for the price we paid, it wasn't good enough. We have stayed in the North East in properties twice the size and contemporary and clean for the same price.

Stay at Mill House cottage

Mill hose cottage is in an excellent position. Accommodation is however basic and tired. There was also mould on the kitchen wall. There is a small shared court yard ( the only entry for Mill house cottage) that is shared by one other property. The court yard is also directly overlooked by a large kitchen window of an additional adjoining property. We took our Labrador with us - and took her out of the court yard to relieve herself. The person in the accommodation also sharing the court yard allowed his dog to foul in this shared space - and whilst he eventually cleared it up - it was not pleasant to look at.

A lovely cottage

We found the cottage well presented, comfortable and spotless in a quiet location. The conservatory was an added bonus. Unfortunately we found no visitors book, nor local walking maps. A few tips for location of everyday requirements would have been very helpful - we never did find a fish and chip shop! A couple of points of maintenance maybe helpful The chimney requires sweeping The appliances and plugs possibly require testing Richard & Linda Nr felixstowe Suffolk

MillHouse

The cottage was very satisfactory although there were problems with the electrics that kept fusing when putting on the external light. Dishwasher did not clean items and had to re wash. Above were reported to you directly, but did not detract from our enjoyment of the cottage and the location. It should have been made clearer that there was no where to park. The seating was uncomfortable for spending an evening in. It would have been nice to have had some logs for the fire for the first night as arrival was late on. However, we did enjoy our stay very much and would certainly consider booking again.

Pleasant cottage in good location

We had a very happy stay in this cottage with our dog. We enjoyed our stay and found the cottage to be very clean, homely and convenient. For dog owners there is a shared courtyard. The people who share the courtyard were only there at the weekends and have a dog too so there were no worries about the gate being left open. Brancaster is a lovely village. It only has a pub and all other facilities are a drive away. The gorgeous beach via the salt marshes is only a 15 minute walk away. It was a great place to get to know and also to use as a base to explore the coast in either direction.

LACK OF RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT

I WROTE A WEEK AGO COMPLAINING THAT THE PARKING PROBLEM WAS NOT ADDRESSED IN THE DESCRIPTIVE BRIEF OF THE PROPERTY. I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM UNTIL I HAD PAID AND RECEIVED DIRECTIONS. AS AT PRESENT I AM PARTIALLY DISABLED AND WOULD NOT HAVE RENTED THIS PARTICULAR PROPERTY HAD I KNOWN. BUT THE FACT THAT I HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE ABOUT THIS AND ANOTHER SLIGHT PROLEM, AND BEING A CLIENT THAT HAS RENTED SEVERAL PROPERTIES OF THE PAST FEW YEARS, I FEEL I DESERVED BETTER.

Mill house cottage

We enjoyed our stay, however our son and daughter in law who were tired after their long journey from Canada and subsequent drive from Heathrow airport were disappointed that on their arrival there was no basics like tea, coffee or milk to enable them to make a hot drink until we arrived with supplies of those. We have never arrived at a holiday home before when these basics were not provided. Also, the initial details of the cottage stated that the other property had access through the garden but in actual fact the garden was shared and this in our opinion was mis representation of the information.

Short break in Brancaster

We had a lovely weekend for my 60th birthday. We thought the cottage was very comfortable and convenient for walks to the beach. The garden was good for the dogs as it is secure and it was useful to be able to walk them on the little green opposite the cottage. It was well equipped with everything we needed. My husband and myself are used to a super king bed so do find double beds too small but this is a normal comment of mine and is not a complaint. We love Norfolk and will use your company again, maybe trying Thornham next time. Thank you.

Mill house Cottage, Brancaster

Good location and the cottage was reasonably comfortable but the single bed in the second bedroom was very uncomfortable (mattress needed replacing as Springs tended to stick up in mattress and base could have done with being a 'divan' type - also could have done with a headboard as pillows tended to fall down the gap at the back between bed and wall) - in my opinion this bed is only suitable for a youngish child as it was so flimsy. However, the cottage was cosy and it was nice having the Conservatory to sit in and also to leave shoes and coats (and dog stuff). The location made up for any shortcomings, as it was only a short walk to the beach. Would recommend but warn about the unsatisfactory condition of the single bed (if that was going to be used)

Mind your head Mill House Cottage

Wasn't that impressed by this cottage. The fact that the front garden terrace was overlooked by the next door cottage. I think I knocked my head about 8 times on the front door entrance. Needs some sort on sign 'Like mind your Head' maybe. Also the steps into the kitchen I also hit my head several times on the arched entrance. very expensive for such a small and not very impressive cottage. The food at The Shipp Inn was recommended but was poor. My wife had Beef check which should be tender. But was you really tough as boots. I had the veggie curry which was bland. Barry from Enfield.

A lovely cottage

Both my partner, myself and our dog enjoyed a wonderful 4 night break in this beautiful part of Norfolk. The cottage is tucked was tucked away behind and alongside several others, and we were delighted with the cottage, facilities and fixtures. We will certainly be back (with the dog!)

Great location, but .........

Great location, but lack of parking (had to park on-street nearby) is a slight drawback. Cottage was clean, comfortable and functional, but some aspects could do with a "refresh" and a little more routine maintenance.

Short stay Dog Friendly Cottage

We booked this cottage for a short stay Monday to Friday with Two of our Dogs. Although there was no onsite parking it was quiet in March and we could park across the road. The stone cottage was tucked away amongst others at the junction with the main road. On arrival having had a little difficult finding the property, we were pleased with its facilities. The Cottage was however very cold the only heating being storage heaters which struggled to warm it. The best time to visit would be in the summer(warmer weather). The area is very nice with lovely beaches and places to visit. The area is Dog friendly.

Super location lovely cottage.

This is a lovely cottage and the location is superb. Just round the corner from the best pub estaurant for miles, it is also as close as you can reasonably get to the various walks to the beach, coastal path and the inland walks which have spectacular views. Perfect for dogs! We had a few minor problems with some of the gadgets - the dishwasher did not work nor did the DVD player's remote control.

Lovely character cottage but cold and very drafty

Huge gap around the front door meant the little amount of heat generated by the storage heaters in the cottage was soon lost. Spent most of stay plugging the gap around the front door with rolled up kitchen roll and using our towels at the foot of the door to stop the draft..

NY break

Had a lovely relaxing stay over the NY break, however we did feel the property needed some work in rooms, some areas seemed to be tired and in need of some love, especially the kitchen. The property was cold when we arrived and it does take a while to heat due to the storage heaters, but this didn't effect our stay in any way. The rooms could do with more insulation, with the conservatory and the lounge feeling very cold due to the small storage heaters only allowing a small amount of heat into the rooms. The lounge is especially cold with no insulation from the front door, it could almost do with thick curtain up at the front door to help with the drafts - if you light the fire then its fine! The grate/tray in the fire could do with replacing. Other than that the location is fab and the beach and walks for our dog were brill!

Mill House Brancaster

This could be a very nice cottage, unfortunately it was very tatty and needed redecorating and updating. The furniture was dreadful, old and dirty, the same for the interior and bathroom. Not good value and I would not go back.

Great hidden gem.

Great hidden gem - cosy cottage tucked away in a quiet village easily accessible to north Norfolk's treasures. Very tidy, clean and welcoming providing everything needed during our stay. The conservatory acts as an ideal entrance for muddy boots and dirty paws!!! Couple of criticisms but nothing that distracts from what's on offer - 1) Obviously being winter it is colder and there's a noticeable draught blowing through door from conservatory to lounge - nothing a door curtain wouldn't fix. 2) The mattress on the double bed (memory foam??) is an absolute no no (personal opinion). Very uncomfortable resulting in disturbed sleep. Brancaster beach is a 10-15 minute walk from the cottage - ideal for early morning dog exercise. Lots to see and do in surrounding area. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Perfect weekend getaway

Lovely cottage 1/2 a mile from the beach and man lovely pubs. There could be a lot more info in the cottage that would assist someone new to the area. We arrived in the dark and did struggle to find the cottage - the sign mentioned In the directions was hidden by a tree and did not know where we were allowed to park. Luckily we did not have any neighbours so just parked where we wanted to. If you are going in the winter the first job is to get familiar with the heating system as it does get chilly in the evening. Many essentials supplied which was helpful and appreciated. Nice courtyard garden but wasn’t sure if it is shared so that’s a must to know if you have dogs! Very spacious cottage would definitely stay again.

Great cottage and location but have one complaint.. Your website details do not mention that the courtyard garden is shared and has overlooking windows. Luckily for us there were no neighbours during our stay ! We would have come unstuck if there were as we have a very friendly and inquisitive dog.... Probably wouldn't have chosen this property if we had known. Have since looked at your brochure and note that this does mention the courtyard is shared. Should your website be updated ? All in all, apart from that, very pleased with our weekend break.
