The Old Schoolteachers House is a quaint 2-bedroom cottage dating back to the 19th century nestled away in the small village of Killurin, County Wexford, On Ireland's Ancient East
It is all that remains of the original school which once stood there but was destroyed over 100 years ago though some perimeter walls and windowsills can still be seen on the grounds.
The cottage has been beautifully renovated maintaining as much character and authenticity as possible while also offering all modern conveniences for a comfortable stay.
The cottage offers guests the luxury of a digital detox and does not have Wi-Fi or a television.
At the bottom of the hill behind the cottage runs a tributary of the River Slaney and as soon as you step out the back door you can hear the water running below.
Cottage Layout
As you enter the cottage through the side door you enter the 'new' part of the cottage, tastefully added to provide the space for modern day conveniences such as a bathroom.
You first meet the pantry area where shoes can be discarded, and coats hung up.

Cottage Layout
Back out to the left and you enter the original cottage.
You will see the beauty of the amazing original white painted stone walls and the black beams of the ceiling.
This is the kitchen and dining area.
The kitchen is neat but efficient offering a hob, oven and beautiful Belfast style sink.
The chimney breast divides the space, and you will find a cosy sitting room to the far side.
There is nothing nicer than lighting a fire here and chilling out.
There is full central heating in the cottage, but the real fire gives the place soul.
Bedrooms
The stairs to the bedrooms are also here.
They are secure but the non uniform shape of the original steps mean that care must be taken when using them, especially if you are tall.
Same must be said for upstairs, the cosy bedrooms are nestled in the pitch of the original roof so a little care must be taken, depending on your height.
The landing houses an inviting daybed, perfect for relaxing with a good book.
To the left is a double room with a king size bed, and a view of the treetops.
And to the right is another gorgeous room with twin beds and a recessed picture window.
Outside
Outside at the back of the cottage is a paved patio area looking out over the valley below.
You can hear nothing but the birds singing and the river below, a tranquil spot to relax and recharge.
There is a table and chairs here and a barbeque. This is a real sun trap if the sun shines for you.
Local Area
The local village of Killurin is situated 800 meters from the cottage.
This comprises of Marty B's pub, serving what some say is 'the best Guinness in Ireland' and has Wi-Fi if needed,
