Super clean, EXCEPTIONAL reviews- Spring & Summer 2025 Open!

Welcome to the Salt Box located in the desired location at MP6 in Kill Devil Hills, NC. We fell in love with the Outer Banks as children and later fell in love with each other here. We were married on the beach just beside Nags Head fishing pier. This is our favorite place to be and we feel certain you will agree after spending your vacation in our beach cottage. We set our cottage up with all of our favorite things we have enjoyed over our years of visiting the Outer Banks. Our home is one block from gorgeous sunsets on the Albermarle sound and a short drive to free beach access. A public boat landing is within walking distance for the boat owner who desires to fish on the water. The Avalon Fishing Pier is only a 5 minute drive away.
After a great day on the beach, come and enjoy an outdoor shower and take a nap in the hammock or read a good book on the deck. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals at home and there is also a gas grill for your use. Staying at the Salt Box will provide you with all you need to make a memorable vacation with your family and friends. Our cottage has 3 BR and 2 BA, kitchen with bar area as well as an eat in kitchen. The living room provides a 55 inch flat screened TV with smart tv functionality, along with a Wii and plenty of video games and movies. The master bedroom has a King size bed and an attached full bathroom along with a flat screen TV, the second room has a Queen bed and smart TV and the third room has a bunk bed with a full on the bottom and twin on top and a flat screen TV/DVD player. Linens and towels are provided but we do recommend you bring your own beach towels. There is a washing machine and dryer in the utility room downstairs. We offer four bikes for riding on the bike trail along the sound side. The back yard is perfect for a game of corn hole (set in laundry room) or for the kids to play.

We do not accept pets. Guests must be at least 25 years of age or a family, this home is not suited for parties. The neighbors are permanent residents and we respect them. The front door has a blink doorbell camera for outside surveillance and safety.

Outstanding OBX Experience
This cozy, clean house was perfect for my family's stay in the Outer Banks! It's just a walk or bike away from boat dock and short drive to beach access, as well as a ton of fun things to do in area! The property manager was great about communicating details as well.

Quick Visit to OBX
Loved the location of this property! We spent 2.5 days in OBX and this was a great spot to hit many of the local attractions. Great backyard for playing catch or just running around with kids. The bike trail is also one block away and we loved being able to take a bike ride to get some ice cream!

Wonderful cottage - great location! Nice hosts!
The Saltbox was one of the cleanest places (including hotels) we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The location is ideal - the bay is short walk away and ocean only a 3 minute car ride the opposite direction. Cheryl was a delight to work withk - very clear communication. Even with negotiating a day of heavy rain from Idalia our stay was a delight!

Perfect for small family!
We had a great time at The Salt Box! The property was perfect for our small family of 4, and the coziness made it feel just like we were at home. Being on the bay side was perfect for early morning runs along the water and we were a short drive away from beach access. We would recommend this property to anybody and everybody…we absolutely loved our stay!

Perfect Spring Break getaway!
A very convenient location to all things during our spring break stay! The house had everything we needed. The bedrooms were comfortable and well decorated. The beds were comfortable, and there was good shower pressure. While we were there the Target had their grand opening. The outside amenities provided were nice, bikes (2 adult, 2 kids), and cornhole boards. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great place for our family of five
We’ve stayed here twice and loved it both times. Big enough for a family of five or six and easy access to the bike trail on the sound side of the island. We prefer to drive to the beach but Avalon pier is a walkable distance if you don’t want to mess with parking. Owner is super responsive and works hard to make sure you’re satisfied.
