Converted chapel, Carew Newton (rebuilt early 1900s, sympathetically restored early 2000s)
Beginning with Peter, the owner who has been helpful and flexible throughout (even after the week had finished) – being everything a host should be.
The property is not overlooked, being on a slight rise within easy walking distance of local amenities (decent pub, tidal mill and castle) – even before you get the car out!
Carew is on the road from Begelly (crossroads for Folly Farm/Narberth or Saundersfoot/Tenby)
It is less than 30 minutes’ drive from Lamphey – gateway to Freshwater East, Stackpole (for Barafundle), Freshwater West and Angle beaches. It is also on the main road to Pembroke Dock - the Cleddau Bridge (toll both ways) taking you onto Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and points west.
Or you can go ‘upriver’ – Cresswell Quay, Lawrenny and Landshipping on the way to Crystal Maze, Oakwood and Bluestone – and then onto Haverfordwest via Canesten (but beware roadworks until mid 2011).
Haverfordwest will then give you options – Cardigan (round the Preselis), St David’s/Solva or Dale. Whichever way you go, there are beaches and lots besides – for the seasoned Pembrokeshire frequenter or those new (and occasional) to the area.
So the chapel is handy for :
- all S Pembs beaches (summer)
- Tesco (Pembroke Dock – 20 minutes’ drive, 24 hour petrol)
- Carew castle + tidal mill (walking distance)
- Carew Inn (evening meals + weekend lunches)
- Folly Farm / Narberth (upmarket shopping)
- Havefrfordwest
- Oakwood / Bluestone
It has a quiet patio accessible from French doors in sizeable, well-equipped kitchen.
The main room has a large flat-screen tv (and surround sound system) with wide range of DVDs.
There are two good-sized double bedrooms (both with en suite shower) and one twin (with double bath) and velux for the occasional humid night.
Considerately conserved with superb original features.
Ideal base for a family (we've three - 9, 11 and 15 - two boys and a girl) for any time of year. It's got easy access to the (downstairs) twin bedroom (note - with shower).
It’s difficult to imagine, having stayed in a variety of houses throughout this part of the world how we didn’t discover this sooner.
What are you waiting for?
