Kihei Ocean Front Hale was originally built for a prominent local family in the early 1960s, this impeccably maintained, single-story home was fully restored to embrace the low-key, laid-back tone and texture of Old Hawaii, while adding modern conveniences and loving owner touches that will help define your ultimate family beach experience. Kihei Ocean Front Hale is a legal and licensed vacation rental home.

The large, open kitchen features a wonderful gathering island, and is properly equipped to service up to 12 guests during your relaxed stay. Your hosts have thought of everything to enhance your experience, including luxury linens, lightning-fast cable/internet, a washer-dryer and mini-laundry room, and high-end hotel-level mattresses. There is a full complement of beach gear, including Tommy Bahama beach chairs and umbrella, water shoes, and portable cooler for guest use.
The Master bedroom, which features a luxurious King, is well separated from the other two bedrooms, and the oversized sleeper sofa in the living room. The Master has direct lanai access and features the same forever-views as the living room and kitchen.

A large gas barbeque grill and ample outdoor space is perfect for enjoying the fantastic view. There is a fenced-in courtyard area in the front yard, a quiet and secluded patio space ideal for private time with your favorite beach read.

You're on the sand in fifteen seconds, where you'll discover a natural shallow reef – bring your water shoes (or use some of ours) and venture out for a swim. For your full-on beach days, the home is located four blocks from Charlie Young Beach, about fifteen minutes by foot. Charley Young, which adjoins Kamaole I Beach, is one of our island's “postcard” beaches, and features a gorgeous, wide swatch of soft golden sand, excellent swimming and snorkeling, and the quintessential Maui beach experience.

If you prefer to stay close to home, our home offers access to the best beach area on the the Halama Street shoreline. It's small, but picturesque – and the experienced snorkeler navigating the long, shallow entry (water shoes only!) can access reef unperturbed by others. You can launch your paddleboard or raft directly in front of the property and enjoy a comfortably sized, hardly travelled bit of your own Maui beach.

Venture inland just a few blocks and you're close to a Starbucks, movie theatre, and our favorite burger on the island, served up by Kool Cat Café. Enjoy a dozen restaurants and a large grocery store within a four-block range of the home, which features secure parking with its own driveway. At wonderful Kalama Park, a short 4-block stroll from the home, you'll find local families and visitors enjoying basketball courts, baseball diamonds, a kid's playground with swings and climbing toys, and an enclosed roller-skating rink (with rental skates) that's open weekend evenings.

Perfectly situated on a quiet street in a cute town on one of Maui’s most beautiful stretches of velvety sand beach. When Hurricane lane interrupted our travel schedule, Sherry and owners were gracious and attentive to accommodating our every need. A huge relief when traveling with an infant! We can’t wait to come back and bring more family to spend time in this beautiful home in the middle of paradise.

This was an excellent trip. The pictures of the house were spot on. Sherry was wonderful and very responsive. The beaches just south of the house(Makenna) are better as the water is clearer. I recommend renting a kayak to see the sea turtles that swim directly out from the house. Highly recommend this property.

Peaceful spot in Kehei
This is a great spot if you're looking for something out of the busy tourist area! The house is great, plenty of space for my husband & I and our 5 children. The beach out front is lovely with tons of turtles! Our best decision was renting a couple of paddle boards for the week (they'll deliver!). We paddled out almost every morning and saw lots of turtles. Only downside is the wind in the afternoon, which I believe is just a Maui thing no matter what.

Amazing beach front property
This property is amazing. It has a very natural habitat that attracts turtle activity. The whales were seen breaching right in front of the property. As with any property there were a couple issues with appliances however the property manager Sherry was amazing! She handled everything with over and above what would have been expected. She was responsive and polite in every communication. Even when an item was left behind she worked with us to get it to the proper owner. Just an amazing stay on an amazing property.

Had a Great Time Here Again!
We came here for our honeymoon in 2010 and had a great time so we decided to rent it out again and take our kids this time. The experience was just as amazing as it was the first time. The beach was practically empty the entire time we were there, except for the fact that we saw sea turtles on a daily basis napping on the beach. The management Sherry was really great and helpful with the little things that we needed and we really appreciate that. The house is a really nice open floor plan and has a great view of the beach and is literally feet away from it. Very family friendly house for a really reasonable price. We hope to come back next year! :)

Would NOT recommend this rental to anyone.
The inside of the house was pleasant, plenty of room for the seven of us. For the money is was nothing to get excited about. The property outside was a total nightmare. Very small patio facing the ocean, the area where you sit to watch sunsets, barbecue, have morning coffee etc. Dirty. The landscape between patio and the ocean was unsightly. Plenty of thorny type bushes, NOT recommended or any children, we had three teenagers. We had to walk off to the side on a easement to get to the ocean. The ocean was NOT an area of interest also, no waves, etc.

This property is incredible. The view from the patio is second to none. Sherry was fantastic.
We have had good and bad experiences with vrbo but this property is incredible. We went with our 5 kids ages 12-25 and everyone had a wonderful time. The beach was private and although sometimes the wind picked up sometimes, it was part of experience. The house provided enough beach chairs and beach equipment for everyone to be happy. The house is beautiful and has thoughtful touches. Everything that you would need for a vacation is provided. Lots of beach towels, starter condiments in kitchen, coffee maker AND filters - just everything. The bedroom set up is perfect. Everyone was spread out and had ample room and bathroom space. The living room is open and inviting and we found ourselves all gathered and watching TV together late night. The floor to ceiling windows of back of house gave beautiful view of ocean at all times. The town of Kihei was so nice and we loved that we were out of the craziness that was farther north./west. It was nice place to visit but not as peaceful as Kihei. Lots of great suggestions from Sherry, who was wonderful to work with. I highly recommend this property. We will be back someday!!

Beautiful home, but not very clean
The home looks exactly like it did in the pictures. It is about 100 ft walk to the beach. Our biggest upset with this home was the cleanliness of everything. The comforters in the guest suite looked as if they had not been washed, the master suite shower had a thick glob of hair in the drain and sand on the floor of the shower, there were cob webs in several corners of the home, the towels smelt of mildew, and the couches could use a deep wash as well. We did inform the owner once we had left, in which she quickly responded. She said that she would hope that we would have notified her earlier so that she could have rectified the situation earlier in our state. I believe the house should comment act rather than having to contact the owner to let them know that it should be clean. Other than that Sherry was a very sweet host and very quick to respond.

Paradise on Earth
What a fabulous home! We spent a spectacular week here with our two adult children and their spouses. We started every morning with coffee on the lanai watching the whales (bring binoculars and/or a spotting scope to see them up close) and ended each day with cocktails watching whales and the unbelievably beautiful sunsets. We’ve been to Maui many times but this is the best vacation rental yet. The beach is just a few steps away and you’re close to so many great local restaurants and shopping. It was so nice to have the basics (paper products, seasonings and snacks) stocked and it’s close to two supermarkets. The open living area was wonderful to spend time together and the bedrooms are large and comfortable. It was awesome to have beach towels, coolers and chairs available. Sherry was great to work with and checking in and out was a breeze. For those complaining about the landscaping, there is a sign on the beach access path noting that it is a dune sanctuary. Not everything needs to be perfectly manicured to be beautiful. We will agree, however, that the dining room chairs have seen better days and have significant sinkholes. It really was a perfect week and we were all very sad to leave paradise. Maui No Ka Oi!

Perfect rental for 3 generations of family. It was better than the pictures. We loved the welcome goodies and beautiful fresh flowers. So many nice touches to make your stay comfortable including an informative welcome booklet. Sherry, the house manager was fabulous. Very quick to respond to any questions or issues. Ocean views from all living areas and master. Loved the open floor plan where we all could hang out together in the large living space. Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of extra blankets and pillows. The house was well stocked with all the necessities. Wifi Worked great too. We loved the sunsets. They were beautiful from the house patio or on the beach. We saw Sea turtles along the beach every day. We found that the beach is calmer in early morning and some evenings. Most afternoons we found the beach to be very windy, but you could still go for walks or sit on the patio and enjoy views. Not exactly a beach for swimming, but great for walking (in water or on beach) we saw paddle boarders and kayaking too. Great sand for sand castles. Definitely bring water shoes for walking in water. Beach is short walk from house. Resturants and shopping were very convenient. My adult kids walked to many of the markets and coffee shops in the mornings. This house is everything that it is advertised to be. Mahalo :)

Beautiful Home with Amazing Views
This house is beautiful and luxurious. We were all in awe the moment we stepped inside. The decor and appliances are all very modern and well maintained. The entire house is very well stocked with good quality supplies. We cooked dinner (BBQ) the last two evenings and it was wonderful. The views are breathtaking. We have rented many homes for family vacations and this one is at the top of the list. The previous reviews about the beach are all correct. The beach is beautiful, but with some round rocks under the water. We all wore water shoes so it wasn't a problem. The sand on the beach is very soft. Afternoons in Kihei get very windy so spending time on the beach in the mornings is the most comfortable. The public path on the side of the house to the beach was not a problem at all. Watching the sunsets on the beach or from the back of the house are a must. It was very convenient to have Safeway so close by. We also ate at many local restaurants which were all good. One thing we noticed during our stay is that the front bedroom (with the 2 queen beds) gets much warmer than the other rooms in the house. There is a large floor fan in the closet of the bedroom and once we started using that the room was much cooler (but still warmer than the other rooms.) I am not saying this is a negative thing about the house - it is just good to know. Finally working with Sherry was wonderful. She is very helpful and responsive. I absolutely recommend renting this home if you are visiting Maui. You won't regret it!

Lots of Room in this Home
We recently stayed two weeks in this home . First let me say that Sherry was ALWAYS attentive and got on any issue right away and a pleasure to work with . I have nothing but good things to say about her and the handling of our stay . Please know that if you are use to as we were staying in a gated ( for safety ) well mainicured resort this home may not be for you . The back of it is more on the “natural “ side and the beach shown in the picture is not immediately out the back door of home . There’s several yards ( approx 30 yards ) of unmanucured grounds BEFORE the beachfront . The picture is deceiving as the beach is not all that close . We had wished the home would have come with more start up products for the price we paid a night . We did receive a beautiful welcome gift when we arrived and enjoyed that . We come to Maui every few years and thought we’d try something different this stay but this didn’t turn out to be what we had expected it to be as far as the homes location . The home itself on the inside is very roomy and beautiful for sure if your needing a lot of space . All the beds were comfortable to sleep in . Dinning room table chairs could use a replacement though as they have sink holes in them . It also would have been nice for some general blowing off of property half way through our stay as the trees had dropped lots of debris all over both in the front and back of home and it was pretty unsightly by the end of the first week . Thanks again Sherry for your help during our stay it was much appreciated. 🙂

Three Generations Enjoyed this Great Beach House
We had a group with two seniors, two middle-aged parents, and three kids ages 8-11 and this Kihei beach house was a good fit for all. The house was clean, very spacious, and nicely decorated. Before arriving, I was concerned about being adjacent to the public path to the beach, but it wasn't a problem at all. The path was never very busy or loud; just a few nice folks coming and going. The beach out back is probably not where you want to spend the entire day, but it was great for morning and evening walks and it was a great place to see the sunset and the sea turtles that come up to rest on the beach. We brought water shoes as recommended by another guest and that was great because our kids wanted to get in the ocean as soon as we arrived and the shoes made it feasible because there are some rocks mixed in with the sand. The house was well stocked with beach towels, boogie boards, and beach chairs which was nice. It's centrally located so you can explore other areas of the island without spending too much time in the car. There are two improvements that I recommend for the owners/management company and simultaneously share with future visitors to manage expectations. First, the dining room chairs need to be replaced as they have sink holes. Second, the yard could use some landscaping improvements (flowering shrubs along the side of the path where the hose is, etc.). Even though the area closer to the beach is a sanctuary area for animals, the landscaping closer to the house could be improved. In a previous review and response, the yard is described as "relaxed Hawaiian" vs. "manicured resort" and I think that's an accurate description. If you are looking for a a more local vibe (less resort like), this house could be a good fit for you.

Beautiful and Convenient Setting in Kihei
This is an exceptionally nice home for families with a large, centralized living space combining the kitchen, living and dining areas, which keeps everyone together. The bedrooms and baths are all very nicely appointed, with the guest bedrooms both having twin beds which was very convenient for the size of our group. The quality of the baths far exceeds many luxury hotels. The kitchen had everything needed and having a washer/dryer is a real plus enabling us to pack light for the trip. It was a surprising plus to find beach chairs and umbrellas onsite to enjoy on the lovely beach just steps away from the back yard. Very nearby you will find multiple grocery stores, the best option being Safeway which is only about 1 mile away. Shops, restaurants and your choice of additional beaches are all very nearby. We absolutely loved the home and would make coffee and go outside each morning to enjoy the placid ocean view and marvel at how happy we were to have selected this property for our vacation. I only have a couple of comments to help give a full perspective on the property. 1) Be aware that there is a public path to the beach along one side of the property and there is occasional foot traffic with people accessing the beach. We did not find this troublesome and enjoyed greeting those who passed by. 2) The beach immediately behind the home is not the best swimming spot but it is a fantastic viewing location. Better swimming beaches are just down the road. 3) The backyard of the property is lacking grass and the property would be much more lush if covered in grass. (I think this property is newly acquired and they appear to be working hard to make this a stellar location and I am sure the grass issue will be addressed). I am hesitant to add those additional comments because I would not want them to prevent anyone from renting this exceptional property. These are very minor issues which do not detract from the property. The bottom line is that we loved our stay, we were sad to leave the property, and we would not hesitate to book here again.

Don’t recommend for families with little kids
The two stars is for Sherry, she is kind and easy to work with and easy to get ahold of. And the beach is a short walk down a public path to the left of the house. However for a few hundred more you can stay at a luxury home with amazing housekeepers. The house keeper at this property does not do a good job. We stayed at the house next door to the left the week before we moved over to this rental. We saw the renters before us leave and the house keeper didn’t show up until the day we were supposed to check in, the house smelled horrible and the fridge was not cleaned, however I didn’t complain because Sherry let us check in early. The house is comfortable but they have a white couch and white chairs that are hard to clean and just don’t make sense for a rental house. The house keeper also did not leave us much for a weeks stay, we had a roll of paper towels, some toilet paper, and a few trash bags, we didn’t even have a cleaner to clean up so we had to get some at the store. This rental is not worth the money. We cleaned emptied all trash and they still filed a claim because of a few Cheerios on the floor, some sand, and to clean the couch & one chair, and they said the maid had to stay longer. The maid needs a helper or a new job, she took pictures of Cheerios instead of just picking them up. I’m positive the couch was from the previous renters but the chair was from my toddler. So no I don’t recommend this home and if you do stay make sure take pictures of how it is when you arrive and when you leave. It took a long time to get any of our deposit back because of the claim, which is also why this review was not left earlier when we stayed. Sherry is great hopefully they can turn things around. One last tip for the home owners, the most comfortable outdoor furniture is in the front of the house that rarely gets used, maybe switch that to the back and make the backyard more comfortable instead of those awful hard chairs, the back could be so much more relaxing if it had comfortable furniture, a hot tub, and a more welcoming feel. Family Vacation
First off, the location is absolutely perfect. As soon as you walk through the front door you are hit with beautiful views of the ocean. The management company is always communicating with you to ensure everything goes well. The one issue we dealt with was insects and lizards. The management was quick to respond and sent someone out.

Very Pleasant Vacation
Home was all that was advertised. We had a very pleasant vacation. We were comfortable without feeling like we were going to break something, yet in a beautiful home. Amazed at how thoughtful the supplies were, eg: beach towels, beach chairs, linens, etc. Would rent again.

Fantastic stay in every way! Highly recommend this lovely house!
Wow, where to start, it was all just so darn great! The house is a perfect spot, close to shopping and everything. The beach is almost a private one, no resorts on this beach and thus, very few folks crowding it. The house is fabulous, first rate all around! We will be back again! Thanks!

Location. Location. Location.
The location in Kihei is perfect, especially for a family that enjoys the beach. You basically get direct access to an almost private beach. House meets the pictures exactly. We would stay there again.
