The hotel birke is a beautiful hotel in many ways, absolutely 5 star reception area, bar and restaurant. Beautiful furnishings, service and lovely and cosy in the winter with open fire in these shared areas. I had a cosy garret room which was lovely in a lot of ways except for the carpet, which was really very very stained with drops and brown marks, it really needs replacing or a thorough steam clean and was off putting, i did not want to walk on it as it did not feel clean the sheets and bathroom were very clean though, the wooden casing around the bed needed a bit of a clean or replacing ie furnishing just a bit tired ,perhaps fair enough for 3 star but the carpet is not really passable and felt dirty even if it eas not ne ause of all the stains. I also would have liked more explanation when i checked in as i was unaware of the processes like where to book for dinner and missed out on a table, and was not explained about breakfast or other facilities/amenities.
