We stayed at Mission Creek's Inn early august 2021, 2 families of 5, with kids ranging from 10 to 16.
The location is amazing, really right next to Kelowna, but in the farm fields. We wanted to visit some wineyards while being over there, and it was quite easy, there were a few within minutes of driving.
The house is spacious, old but beautiful, very well restored.
The host (Mark) is very responsive. He was quick to respond when we were messaging prior to the stay, and was around for any questions we might have had while staying there.
Good to know prior to booking:
- there is no cold air/air conditioning. As this is a very old house, it is not surprising. It was however quite hot when we stayed, and even if things do cool down outside in the night, it was hard to get the rooms upstairs cooling down, even if we kept the windows open and the blinders up. Maybe the weather was unusually hot though, hard to say for people out of town visiting for the first time!
- Mark and Amber live in the basement. It is called out clearly on the description, and we knew it when we booked. We didn't realize that it would make us a bit more nervous around the house with the kids. They can move around fast and not necessarily in the most quiet way, so we had to remind them to be careful not to make too much noise since the hosts live in the basement.
- The owners are definitely around. Mark is kind enough to offer to help with garbage and compost, but that also means he'll have to come upstairs once in a while. He tries to do this while we are out, and i personally don't mind, but i know it made my wife a bit uncomfortable.
- Eventhough we're quite used to recycling and composting in general, the 20$ penalty warning sign (if you get compost/recycling wrong) made us nervous! We were actually preferring to throw some of our garbage out, on the go, instead of at the house when we were not sure what to do!
- it is true that the internet can get slow. It was ok for me, but my kids were sometimes complaining! Not a bad thing since my kids spend too much time on the internet anyway.
- there is a grill outside (charcoal type), but i'm not sure if it was used recently. It was full of wood and paper, we didn't even try to use it in the end.
- the front porch is really, really nice. Kids and adults were often fighting to get the hammock on there, it was a really nice place to relax and enjoy the day/evenings.
