The property from the outside felt more like a hotel. But, once you enter it feels like you are staying in someone's home. The staff was very attentive. Food choice was minimal and was a bit underwhelming. They had a cooking demo planned for 4 PM, and they insisted we be on time during the check-in process. We cut short our outside trip and returned on time, only to be told that they are waiting for other guests and will not start until all the guests arrive. So much for being punctual and being told to be on time for the demo. I don't myself staying at this place again. It is OK to experience it once.
Visalam is not a hotel, but a home. It reflected in every little thing at this place.
The service was outstanding and Malaisamy really takes care of the guests’ dining needs with care and constant attention.
The largest King size bed ever, the high ceilings and the beautiful courtyard makes this Chettiar marvel truly majestic. Keep it up, Team Visalam
as usual with any CGH property, the hotel was great... lovely staff,,, excellent little gem found in the middle of no where. the Swimming pool was great... only thing that they could improve is to have some food options for kids as they sometimes are fussy...other than that all was great.. highly recommended
It was a really nice stay. The place is well maintained, the food is excellent. The staff are friendly. There are add ons like a bullock cart ride and bicycle ride which my kids loved.
The property is a beautifully restored old Chettiar home. The bedrooms had the look and feel of the past, but also the inadequacies: no coffee/tea making in the room, no refrigerator. The property is cosy and boutique-like, with only 15 rooms - which is too few to have a liquor licence. So you can't enjoy a beer on a hot day. The service is also slow, since the kitchen is far from the three locations at which meals are served. So, if you think modern comforts and rapid service are essential in a place you'd like to call home in this arid locale, this hotel isn't for you. However, if you want to experience life as it was a century ago in a wealthy Chettiar home, this is fabulous.
Beautiful building, amazing food, tranquility and most of all, friendly and incredibly helpful staff - what more could you ask from a hotel? We had a great stay and wish we had planned to stay longer. A trip round the village on the hotel bicycles is well worth it!
This is an amazing hotel. The holy trinity. Great ambiance, excellent staff and a nice restaurant.
The cooking class was fun and informative. We loved our room and the walks through the village at sundown were lovely. The large pool is reverse osmosis and lunch by the pool was excellent.
The family hospitality was what tied it all together to make for a perfect 3 day holiday.
This hotel is actually a home once owned and lived in by the very rich Indian business men of their time. This is a beautiful place to stay, from the moment you arrive and are greeted by the hotel staff to the breakfast you have in the gardens, this is the place to switch off the mobile and just lay back. Fantastic hotel.
Probably the happiest, most interesting and most professional place in which we have stayed across several trips to India. The rooms are enormous, the food is very good, but mostly the staff are exceptional and for once, well trained, confident and sensitive to their guests.
For me this is a 4 Star or more, possibly because of facilities it's been classed as Three star. However if you want comfort, huge rooms, the most friendliest of staff, beautifully maintained historic building that has a pool then this is the place to stay. You will be very surprised.
