Awesome sunsets, ocean breezes, and quiet starry nights await you at this very clean and cozy 1 bedroom home situated 400 feet up on two and a half acres in the rolling hills of the Kohala Coast. From here you are only minutes away from the finest beaches (such as Hapuna), water activites (such as sailing, fishing, whale watching, great snorkeling and diving), dining and golfing the Big Island has to offer.

Hale O Pueo is well built, light, airy, and located where the sun shines 350 days a year. This tranquil, end of the road property is lavishly landscaped with a variety of tropical flowering plants and trees. Comfortably furnished living room framed by night blooming jasmine and lush bamboo, opens out through sliding glass door onto the covered lanai. Luxuriate here in the serene setting and balmy ocean breezes as you swing in the hammock or nestle into the tropical furnishings.

Wake up in your queen sized bed to the morning sun glistening on the ocean below as you look out the large sliding door. Step out onto the covered lanai to take in the expansive, unobstructed views of the rolling hills, ocean, coastline and nearby Hualalai Volcano as you plan your day in paradise.
BBQ on your lanai along with gas burners, new appliances and everything necessary for your dining needs. Includes breakfast bar and beautiful bamboo set.
Tiled bathroom with large vanity opens up to your exotic private outdoor shower, surrounded by red lava rock walls and tropical plants.

Lovely Bungalow
Kalia was delightful! The place was adorable and had all the comforts of home., especially mosquito spray! While it would have been hard to find, off the beaten path, Kalia's directions were perfect and she even waited to hear that we arrived safely before turning off her phone. Thank you, Kalia!

Perfect get-away in Kohala
We absolutely loved our time at Hale O Pueo. The accommodation is very comfortable, and the lanai is a beautiful spot to relax and look out over the lovely garden toward the ocean. Kalia was so pleasant and helpful, and made us feel at home right away. We're looking forward to our next stay!

Beautiful hale & location
This home is very clean, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. It has everything you’ll need for your stay on the Kohala Coast. The lanai has splendid views up and down the coast & incredible sunsets views. Lots of whale watching, too. It’s close to many beaches, historical sites & good day trips such as up to Hawi & the Pololu Valley Lookout. Kalia is a gracious & helpful host. We highly recommend staying here—5 star all the way!

We love this cottage. Absolutely everything is carefully curated. We stayed here six tears ago, loved it then, love it more now. The location is excellent, the decor is superb and the view from the Lani is to die for. Kalia is a wonderful host. I recommend her place unequivocally.

We had a fabulous stay at Kalia’s place! It was so peaceful and relaxing! We loved resting and playing cards on the deck with the beautiful garden and ocean views. Kalia was very easy to reach and super helpful. We loved the outdoor shower and all the beach supplies. It was hard to leave!

Warning! You may never want to leave Kohalo Estates 😊. My wife and I spent a week here and loved every minute. The views, location , gracious host. Everything you need for a relaxing and perfect time away. Kalia was so nice and helpful. Always responsive but never intrusive. We explored the Big Island during the day but back in time for beautiful sunsets. Could not have been happier with our stay. Mahalo, Kalia, for sharing this piece of paradise.

Kalia’s property was an absolute dream. My fiancé and I spent a week at the property and loved it. From enjoying coffee on the lanai in the morning breeze to dinner outside watching the sunset. BEAUTIFUL! We loved all of the flowers and gardens surrounding us and admired the birds singing in the morning. Kalia was so kind and helpful. She was quick to respond to questions and available. She has really made a special place unlike any other!

Rejuvenating and relaxing. Perfect. We never got out of our lounge clothes because we couldn't bear to leave our oasis. The flowers, the birds, the curious sweet little gechos. The kitchen was well equipped. The lanai was so comfortable--even a hammock for naps. Lovely outdoor shower and the bed was so comfortable. Wifi was excellent, if you need it and tv offered sufficient options if you felt you needed that. Overall, so peaceful and just superb.

Wonderful place to stay
This little house is tucked away in the most amazing location away from the hustle and bustle of daily living! Everything was wonderful! The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook a few meals, bed was comfortable, lovely outdoor shower, and plenty of privacy. Breakfast on the patio every morning was a real treat! The geckos visited every morning to see what we were eating, so much fun to watch them! Looking up at the stars at night was just amazing. Loved the quiet (note the birds sing from sunrise to sunset), so we knew it was time to rise and shine when the birds awoke. Kalia was a perfect host! Answered questions quickly and helped us if we needed something. Great place to get away and the views are amazing! We were able to see the whales one day when they are active in the water with the binoculars that were provided. Overall great experience, thanks so much for sharing your little piece of paradise!

good, but a shared space
Although the view is indeed beautiful, I was disappointed that the place is a duplex, shared with the owner, as opposed to a "stand alone" house. I felt that I could not play music as I would have liked, and the sound of water running in the pipes was a constant reminder that I was not alone. The owner and her guests were very quiet, but still it was not what I had hoped for.

An Oasis in North Kohala
Truthfully, I cannot properly describe our stay at Hale O Pueo. It was by far the most relaxing place we stayed during our three week trip. (We like to bop around the island, as we have found that different parts of the island offer a variety of things to do and see.) We spent far too much time watching and enjoying the geckos on the lanai. We took too many photos of the sunset EVERY night we were there. (because it was always beautiful) We loved the oasis Kalia has created, the birdlife that goes along with it, and in turn, the birdsong. And the outdoor shower. Which in and of itself is reason enough to book, as it's beautiful (it really is!) and so dang relaxing! You're far away from the hustle and bustle of Kona and the resorts, but not too far away to easily grab groceries or something to eat at Kawaihae Junction, Waimea, or the Mauna Lani. And so close to so many great beaches and snorkeling. Yes, Kalia is right next door, but she is completely unobtrusive, has so much knowledge of the island and is so kind, we loved having her there. We will without doubt be back to Kalia's, as it was perfect for us and the way we travel. It was peaceful, quiet, we were surrounded by nature, and it was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Mahalo Kalia for opening your home to people who can come and enjoy your little spot of heaven on the Big Island.

Heaven on The Big Island
This is our second stay at Hale O Pueo and it won't be our last as long as Kalia will have us. We've found over the years that we value above all things a house that offers privacy and an ability to get away from the hustle and bustle. Hale O Pueo offers both. Kalia has created an oasis on the North Kohala coast where you wake to bird song every morning and other than the occasional gecko or rain on the roof there is nothing but quiet at night. No noisy neighbors, no cars, nothing but beautiful peace and quiet. Kalia may reside in the attached hale, but rarely do you see her and you definitely don't hear her. But, she's around and ready to point you in the direction of a great beach or snorkeling spot. We always enjoy visiting with her and are thankful to have such a gracious and kind host next door. The sunset from the lanai is so beautiful that my husband's only requirement while staying at Hale O Pueo is that we're back at the house by sunset so that we can watch it from the lanai with a gin and tonic in hand. (The lime tree gets a lot of use from us while we're there as he enjoys the limes for his gin and tonics and I enjoy the limes for my water.) And then there's the gorgeous outdoor shower which in my eyes may be one of the most luxurious experiences someone from Montana can hope for. The location is perfect as it's fairly close to Hawi, (which we frequently head up to in the mornings for our coffee) close to Kawaihae Junction (shave ice at Anuenue) and the beaches on the Kohala coast. Hale O Pueo is one of our two favorite VRBOs on the island and I'm already looking forward to going back. Thank you Kalia for yet another beautiful stay. I had tears in my eyes as we were driving away because it's such a beautiful and peaceful place to call home for any length of time.
