"The property has been recently renovated and the bedroom was of a good size and the hotel is within walking distance to the main touristic attractions in Penang. The room in each we stayed was in the left side of the hotel, and at 6.15 am in the morning we would wake up with the prayers at the mosque. Breakfast is continental style - you can order omelettes, scrambled eggs or fried eggs cooked to order, there's tea, coffee and orange juice available, a hot station with Asian style noodles...

"Enjoyed staying at Royal Chulan. The only issue was that there is no alcohol sold on premises. This is not advised on any of the hotels information when booking which is a bit disappointing. "

"The numbers of room in the hotel are small and its chic. One thing though the hotel could install an elevator for seniors' connivence of movement due to steep staircase, particularly when moving luggage up and down the staircase. All and all the hotel get my full marks."

The staff is genuinely kind. But they need to break out the paint brushes because some surfaces, especially in the bathrooms, are pretty funky. I’ve stayed at campgrounds and hostels with nicer, hotter, showers :) "
