Neon Moon: The Cosmic Experience w/ Pool & Spa

Summary:
Neon Moon is the desert’s most cosmic, out-of-this-world escape where planetary energies mingle and align to create an ultra-magnetic experience. Located in the darkest area of Joshua Tree, the stars really do come alive at night. In the heart of the protected land of Monument Manor on 7.5 acres, this large slice of starry heaven is perfect for artistic retreats, relaxed get-togethers, family gatherings, or the midnight dreamers and stargazers.

The Space:
The open floor plan is perfect for gatherings of all kinds, while pops of bright colors, magical lighting and trippy art ensure good vibes only. Relax in the realm of emotions by sharing a moment of gratitude with a Pisces in the built-in spa; or set some intentions for the season to come and share your passions in the realm of creation with a Leo or a Sagittarius around the fire pit; ground yourself and clear your mind with a Taurus in a morning or moonlit meditation. It’s positively elemental!

Other Things to Note:
SPA/JACUZZI:
We understand this spa is a highly desired amenity, and we want you to enjoy it! Please note our built-in spa runs off of propane and uses 1.25 gallons of propane per hour. The market rate of residential propane in the desert is $4.41 per gallon. If you wish to use the spa, we ask you to follow the honor’s system and cover the cost of propane usage. We have a flat rate of $50per day (+ tax) — it really costs us more, but we feel this is fair in case you don’t use it for the entire day. If it’s not in use, please keep it turned off.

To prevent the heater from overheating in extreme desert temperatures, the spa shuts off automatically between 2 am-9 am and will need to be turned back on manually. The spa takes about 3-4 hours to heat up. Please let us know at least ONE day prior to check-in if you would like the spa heated upon your arrival. The heater makes some noise when it is on. Finally, the spa has a small leak, so we leave a hose dripping into it — please do not tamper with it.

COWBOY POOL:
The cowboy is not heated, but is great for dipping your feet in and enjoying the view!

Fun time in JT
We had a wonderful time at the Neon Moon! The outdoor space was perfect (could have used a little more covering from the sun.. but I am sure this is difficult when the wind picks up) The firepit, corn hole, cowboy pool and spa and, of course the great view made for a fun space. The home is so fun with special lighting and decor. Everything we needed was supplied and working... (The scratched pans could use replacing, however, I am sensitive to cooking in scratched coated pans..) We all had a great weekend at the Neon Moon!

A beautiful location and spacious house
We loved the desert house and enjoyed our stay. The location is amazing and our favorite part was sitting out on the chairs at night watching a thunderstorm and enjoying the view below us. It does take about 10-15 minutes to get into town so plan ahead when needing food or groceries. Our regret is not just planning to cook all meals in and shopping ahead of time as we ended up hungry and using up time driving. Two complaints are that there were no extra rolls of toilet paper and we were unable to reach the owner. Convinced there had to be some somewhere we tried calling both numbers given, but voicemail was full and we never heard back. It was a little frustrating that we couldn't get ahold anyone and had we had a more urgent question we would have had no way to reach them. So we had to do yet another last minute drive into town that we weren't planning on. Other than that we had a great time. Thank you for letting us stay at your place!

Comfortable home in a beautiful setting. A great value!
I was a little worried when I read the previous review right before I headed up to the Desert House for a week, but I am happy to say that my experience was great, and not at all like the one that reviewer had. That reviewer did have some valid complaints--we also found that the DVD library is pretty inadequate, and I'm glad that those folks purchased and left the new player behind because we just went to RedBox in Yucca Valley and rented DVDs that we wanted to watch. I also agree that the owners may be having a problem with the cleaning staff not being very careful or thorough, but the place was perfectly serviceable. This home is a bit do-it-yourself and is not for fussy people--the carpets are a bit worn, the pots, pans and kitchen ware are not chef-quality, the hot tub requires additional water from the hose on a daily basis, the laundry/utility room shelves are overflowing with miscellaneous hardware and various things previous guests have left behind. All of that said, the house is VERY comfortable and has a wonderful layout for hanging out and enjoying the beautiful desert environment from both inside and outside. There is a back room with a bar (and wood paneling!) from which we could sit and enjoy the sunset when it was too cold to stand outdoors, or where an adult could quietly enjoy a book while the kids played in the main living area. The mattresses are comfortable and seem new, and there are plenty of clean towels for everyone. The washer, dryer, refrigerator and dishwasher are all modern and worked great. Best of all, you can hike up into the rocks right behind the house for as long or short as you wish.

Some good, some not so good
The house was warm, the beds comfortable, the kitchen was great, nice size rooms, and it's in a convenient location. The price was excellent. However, there were a few things that were subpar. [1] The hot tub was not useable the first night even after we worked on it for 2 hours. We followed the directions as outlined in the "house directions information". Eventually, the following evening, we figured out the problem - we needed to prime the pump; this wasn't something that should have been on us to accomplish. Further, the tub looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in some time - not just sand but quite a few bugs and leaves and other scree. [2] The dvd/vcr didn't work. Every time we turned it on, it turned itself off. A tape was jammed in the machine and wouldn't come out. We bought a $25 dvd player and a few dvds for ourselves so we could enjoy our evenings the way we expected to. We left the player at the house. [3] The video library: There are about 12 VCR movies but 1/3 to 1/2 of them are broken [tapes ripped or face plates detached - no doubt eaten by the broken VCR]. And the dvd's titles aren't even worth mentioning in terms of content. [4] We called the numbers listed in the "house direction folder" on our second day and the maintenance contact number was disconnected. The owner called us later on Saturday to check in and we indicated the problems. She said the maintenance number was not disconnected and we called it one more time to check and it was. Perhaps the number in the green information packet was wrong? But I doubt it. In general, a decent place to stay - so close to the park. I think the owners

Perfect Couple's Getaway!
We had the best time at Neon Moon. From the decor to the outdoor amenities, the house was perfect for our couple's getaway. We enjoyed stargazing in the hot tub, hiking the trail by the house, playing sunset corn hole, challenging each other on the Nintendo 64, making meals together and wrapping up the weekend with a movie. We absolutely loved the decor and the location had the best sunset. Thank you!

Our stay at Neon Moon was amazing! The property manager had great communication, providing clear details and recommendations for activities within the area. The entire house was clean and matched the online description PERFECTLY! The game room was a great addition to our stay as we did experience a little bit of a storm! I would stay here again without any hesitation and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a house in Joshua Tree!

Magic in the Desert
Overall, we loved our stay. The house was generally clean and the location was magic. With views that go on forever and stars as far as the eye can see, a hikable property.... It was everything we needed. However - it seems like perhaps the property changed owners right before our trip and a few things happened. Number one is the dome - the dome is really no longer usable. Current owners have literally cut the dome in half and put up a corrugated plastic wall and partial ceiling. It is no longer a dome and frankly it is an eye sore. We didn't use it all - which was super disappointing. We were informed that the dome would be 'smaller' a day or two before our arrival. Secondly - there were no check out instructions at all. I reached out and left a message and still had no check out info. Thirdly, most of the time when I arrive at a vacation rental there is a binder or some info sheets about the house, but there was nothing like that with instructions or anything. Fourthly, the kitchen is pretty threadbare as far as cooking supplies go. Fifthly, the a/c and heating were not working. All we could use was the very loud swamp cooler (which we really did not need). And lastly - no karaoke machine which was very disappointing as we had planned a fun stay at home karaoke night. Overall - the property is amazing, inspiring, beautiful. We had a magical time and we loved it. I would recommend it to friends. We did not communicate any of our issues to the hosts as they did not impede our good time and frankly with things like the dome (our largest complaint)- what could they do to resolve it? The dome was a massive disappointment. I would have preferred no dome and a beautiful outdoor seating area or something else. The cut in half dome that was there when we arrived was just a huge joke.

Stayed here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. Everyone couldn’t stop talking about how cool the place was! Perfect location for a Joshua tree vacation. Very close to the crochet museum area and had an area to explore behind the house. We bbq-ed and ate dinner outside at sunset and it was beautiful. The house was extremely clean and had everything we needed. John was quick to respond with any questions we had. We loved staying here!!

This is a beautiful property with plenty of room both inside and out. The dome is a little aged but very comfortable. The house is comfortable with nice furniture that enables plenty of opportunities to gather as a group or spread out. It is very close to the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. Amazing get away
I took my kids here to celebrate my sons high school graduation. We live in LA so it was a short two hour drive. The directions were easy to understand. Be careful to follow them closely though because my son who went in his own car followed google maps and ended up going up a very steep dirt road and scraped the underneath of his car. The house is amazing on five actes of beautiful land up high overlooking the entire canyon. Its very private and right up against the hill. We enjoyed gazing out at the sunset, star gazing in the hot tub at night and cooling off after hiking. Its very close to the park. The dome is very hip and the kids took took turns sleeping in it. The main house is very big and clean. We loved the open concept kitchen and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. We grilled our dinners outside and had smores on the campfire! Couldn’t have asked for more.

Amazing property, perfect for families
I’ve stayed in VRBOs all over the world and this house was the most equipt home I’ve stayed in. Everything you could need is provided. We stayed during Covid & the cleaners were sterilizing up until the minute we got there. It was extremely clean! The kids loves sleeping in the dome and also the fire pit outside. We hiked behind the property several times which was awesome! The view is gorgeous and the proximity to the national park makes it extremely easy. We will be back for sure!

A hop and skip to Joshua Tree
The best thing about this house is the proximity to JTNP. There’s even a lovely hike just behind the house. The house itself is comfortable and includes many kitchen items/supplies for cooking, though it lacked sufficient coffee cups and spoons. As others have mentioned, the hot tub controls don’t seem well-defined. The oddest thing was that I had several questions and used the VRBO messaging but never got replies, perhaps because of the holidays. (We did get a message back after a call when our code for the house didn’t work.) Overall, a good place because of proximity to park and town.
