Please take note that Google incorrectly lists all Joseph City addresses as being in “Holbrook”. This is due to the fact that Joseph City is not incorporated so Google incorrectly identifies us as a Holbrook address. GPS guidance will deliver you to the correct location, you will just note that you are actually in Joseph City and not Holbrook.
You will have the entire apartment as your private sanctuary for a restful nights sleep, snacks, or meals you choose to prepare in the well-outfitted kitchen, or just relaxing with the remote control surfing the channels on the 4K smart TVs. Directly across the street is our grassy City Park where you can enjoy a covered picnic table while grilling some burgers and hot dogs on the provided charcoal grills, while the kids play tag with lots of room to run.
My work schedule as a locomotive engineer may preclude my physical presence to assist with questions regarding the many adventures that surround our peaceful little town, but I can receive text messages 24/7 and will respond as soon as I am able. If I am available, I can assist with more in-depth assistance regarding local attractions, directions, and advice.
A note on our location... Joseph City is not Incorporated and as such Google does not recognize it as a city. Google will show the written address to be in the City of Holbrook, the nearest incorporated city. The address however is in Joseph City, and when entered in Google maps you will be guided to Joseph City and the correct address.
If you are visiting with pets please note that the grounds around the perimeter of the parking area may have some natural stickers and thorns that may prove painful to your pets feet if they are allowed to walk about freely in these areas. For a more enjoyable and pain free experience for your pet please utilize the grass of the pet friendly City Park directly across the street from the apartment. Please ensure that all pet waste is picked up and properly disposed of. Thanks!
Joseph City is a peaceful and quiet little town of about 1,500 residents and is Arizona's oldest non-native city and a refuge from the hubbub of our larger, younger, and more chaotic sibling cities. Joseph City was settled in 1876 by colonists who were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This band of 73 pioneers was led by Captain William C. Allen. They traveled to the Little Colorado River basin of Arizona seeking farmland and water that would support their families. Joseph City was one of four Little Colorado River colonies. The other colonies were Brigham City, Sunset, and Obed. Joseph City is the only surviving colony remaining.
The hardest trial for the new colonists was trying to get water for their crops. This meant that they had to try to tame the Little Colorado River. This was difficult due to the flooding season that would destroy dams along the river. The first dam was built in 1876, shortly after the colonists arrived in the area. For the next 18 years, the colonists built ten more dams. The eleventh dam was built in 1894. This dam lasted for 29 years. In 1923, the eleventh dam was destroyed and the colonists were forced to build a new dam. This dam still currently stands and directs water to the inhabitants still in the city. Joseph City stands as an emerald jewell in Arizona's high desert of the Colorado Plateau. Irrigation water provided by the Little Colorado River and modern wells feed a townwide network of irrigation ditches that provide water to residents yards and many remaining fields of various crops grown by local farming families. Many with family roots that they trace to the original 73 pioneers that tamed this small parcel of Arizona's wild badlands of the 1800s.
No stoplights, light traffic, a low crime rate, and a relaxed atmosphere are hallmarks of our little town. We have amazing Pizza at Mr. G's on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Esther's Diner serves a great selection of American classics and the nearby cities of Winslow and Holbrook host many great restaurants, diners, and bistro's in addition to a Super Wal Mart in Winslow and Safeway's in both Holbrook and Winslow where supplies for your fridge, cooler and other needs can be procured. Loves Travel Center in Joseph City has a Subway and Chesters Chicken, convenience store, and gas to fuel your adventures across this wild and beautiful land!
Off-street unassigned parking is available and free. There are no public transportation systems that serve our town. Most adventures are accessible by the family car and there are a few other great adventure sites that can be accessed with 4x4 capable vehicles.
