The host/owner was wonderful and accommodating. She asked us before hand what we would like for breakfast the next day. The place was lovely and felt like we were in a museum. It was full of charm, uniqueness and warmth.

Hostess was warm and welcoming. House is beautifully appointed. The quantity and quality of the antiques is impressive and fascinating. I've stayed in many dozens of architecturally significant B&B's and this is the finest. Breakfast was delicious. Advice: bring a book light if you like to read in bed.

The only thing that was annoying was the wedding reception going on. When you’ve traveled a distance and just want to rest, loud music doesn’t help. Otherwise a beautiful place and tree farm. The hostess was really nice

Heavitree was an amazing find. Charlotte was a most gracious host, allowing us to check in early and giving us a personal tour of of this reconstruction of an historic tavern home. It was almost like staying in a museum but still warm and very very comfortable. I book old B&B's cautiously not wanting to stay in a musty old building which this one certainly is not! Because it was relocated and reconstructed it has a modern foundation and heating and cooling systems. As an Architect these are things that I always notice The property exudes beautiful and scenic old New England and the gourmet breakfast is excellent. I would recommend Heavitree to anyone.

Wonderful 18th Century B&B
An excellent stay, this unique Heavitree of Griswold B&B was featured in the December 2008 issue of Early American Life magazine. An original 18th century structure set on a 140+ acre Christmas tree farm, that once served as a tavern, home, and now a B&B. Walk through the door and you are teleported back in time, as the rooms, parlor, dining room, keeping room, great room, etc., are all from the 18th century period. Outside the B&B, the grounds include vast fields, gardens, beautiful views, and a comfortable outdoor patio. Each morning, the full breakfast was enormous and delicious. The owner, whose family has lived on this property since the 1600’s was amazing and so very nice to talk to. The property manager was also incredible and very knowledgeable of the area. If you love Old Sturbridge Village, CT, and wonder what it would be like to stay in an 18th century home of that period, then this is the B&B for you!

It took us two whole days to process this.
We only stayed one night— my mother, child and I. Antonio, the manager who spoke with us was very pleasant and helpful in finding an extra room for my son when his travel plans changed and he joined us last minute on this trip. But the lady who owns the place— Charlotte— left us feeling awful. We were checking in late after helping a friend at Holyoke move out, and hadn’t eaten dinner. We brought a pizza along. Charlotte met us outside the house and wouldn’t let us enter until we’d eaten outside. We weren’t planning on taking our pizza indoors anyway! But the disdain with which she spoke was degrading. After we finished we found Antonio, who tried taking us to our room but she told him (while we stood right there, being stared at awkwardly by other guests) to have us wash our hands in the kitchen first. With dish soap. There’s more. Other specific instructions/commands included: 1. To fold away the bed cover (it’s very old and precious!). 2. Place a mat when you shower (or it rains in the kitchen) 3. Keep water bottles in the bathroom, not on the furniture (they’ll sweat and stain it). Through the short 15 hours we spent there felt like I was paying $300 dollars/night to tend and care for Charlotte’s furniture and not so we could rest after a long day. Or for a well-made omelette. Also, we’re a brown family. Doesn’t seem like conversations about how dehumanising small acts like this feel have reached this place through the time warp it’s in. Flee. We did.
