The 'host' cancelled this booking 24-hours before our departure, citing "maintenance" issues. A search on other booking sites will find similar experiences from other customers for this property. I'd found these and messaged ahead, receiving reassurance the booking was confirmed and would be honoured - then still received the cancellation. We were offered an alternative, which we had to take given the very short notice. The alternative was like a shared student house from decades ago - a massive old property split into perhaps 4 or 5 apartments. It stank due to cooking in the unit downstairs, the beds were ancient and fitted awkwardly into rooms that were probably designed as living rooms not bedrooms. The lobby was dirty, the bathrooms have got to be 40 years old and should have been in a museum, the aircon units were so badly fitted into the single glazed window frames that the rooms got noise 24/7, curtains were so poor quality they had no practical purpose. Similar houses down the street were boarded-up and for sale as a development site.
As an honest review there were five positive features worth mentioning (1) there were lots of clean towels and bed linens (2) the area is nice, felt safe, with good neighbourhood stores and easy access to Manhattan, (3) the wifi was great (4) the refrigerator seemed to be new, and (5) the view across the Hudson to midtown and downtown is AMAZING - but I would still not return, and would give zero stars for some of the ratings if allowed.
