Pros: Lovely property (we enjoyed the Japanese garden very much, strolling through the gardens was relaxing and rejuvenating, the grounds were clearly very well maintained and the surroundings were just gorgeous), quiet neighborhood, comfortable bed and comfy couches for lounging at the end of the day, very friendly host, great access to Potomac, C&O canal trail, well stocked pantry, complimentary bottle of wine, comfy robes, nice towels and linens, very good toiletries, and nice kayaks available to rent. If biking C&O canal, this would be a perfect place to overnight or weekend while en route!
Cons: Window screens need replacing, all are very damaged, it'd be nice to be able to open the windows and let in fresh air w/out letting in all the bugs. :) Bed is in a very cramped loft w/ low ceilings, the bed is up against a wall so getting in/out of bed at night is tricky to avoid bumping your partner and/or your head. It was OK for my husband and I, but I felt obligated to post that here as it wasn't that clear in the listing that this was the sleeping situation. The gate to get in/out of the property is a little clunky but you get used to it.
Overall, my husband and I had a lovely stay, we had a weekend full of outdoor adventures and truly appreciated the kindness and helpfulness of the host. The pros outweighed the cons by far, we would absolutely consider staying here again, and I would recommend this place to anyone seeking to be close to the Potomac River and enjoying the outdoors, while having a very comfortable place to come back to at night!
