Lagada Resort
Lagada Resort is a contemporary resort to the South East of Crete, located just two minutes’ walk from Lagada beach, on the outskirts of the villages of Makrigialos and Analipsi
The apartments are set in landscaped gardens which are set in a terraced formation to provide the best views of the sea and mountains. The Penthouse is at the front of the resort affording spectacular views to the sea and mountains.
Within the grounds you will find two lovely swimming pools, one with a waterfall and the other with a tranquillity pool, surrounded by patio areas, sun beds and parasols. The gardens include flower and herb gardens along with a purpose built amphitheatre which can be viewed from the rear balcony.
The resort benefits from its own bar/cafe with its own rood terrace, which allows you to relax for an evening without leaving the resort should you wish.
Lagada Resort is a fully manage resort and we have a management team on site to help you with your holiday requirements. Reception is open daily (excluding Sundays in the lower season).
When you arrive you will go to Reception and they will provide you with keys and any information you will require. If you arrive out of hours you have a choice of either following instructions and obtaining your key from a key lock safe or for a small fee have someone greet you at reception. However, the instructions for getting into the apartment are very easy and, with the exception of my mother, we have never had anyone struggle to get in out of hours, which is a little worrying as she had been three times before!
There is ample off-street parking both at the front and to the rear of the resort.
During the height of summer and twice a week out of high season a local bakery will deliver items for sale in time for breakfast, just ask at reception.
The area is not at developed as the north of the island and has a lot of the Cretan charm many holiday makers are looking for and is just two minutes’ walk from the Lagada beach.
Makrigialos Harbour and Village
Makrigialos is a picturesque fishing village which is one of the quieter, less developed destinations in Crete, more suited to couples and families.
It is peaceful, unhurried and surrounded by magnificent untouched countryside. The scenery is spectacular with majestic mountains and beautiful bays, in fact the name Makrigialos means long beach and the beach here is just that, it is blue flag accredited, has golden genteelly sloping sands and safe shallow bathing, suitable for children of all ages. There is on offer a range of water sports facilities in the summer season.
The harbour area is a pleasant place to stroll around, with its own patch of sandy beach. The water front stretches east from the harbour, and is dotted with bars, restaurants, cafés and tavernas, many of which open onto the beach.
If you are an early riser you can walk along the harbour front to see the fishermen bringing in their catch and can even pick your own fish for dinner. If you are not an early riser, you can call in at the fishmongers later in the morning.
There are also little lanes to walk down, one of which leads to the local picturesque monastery pictured here.
Makrigialos also has its its own archaeological sites which can be found at the western end of the village, a Minoan Villa and a Roman villa.
The original villages of Makrigialos (or Makry Gialos) and Analipsi have now become one village and Lagada Resort is located just to the east of the village.
Restaurants & Tavernas
If you enjoy sampling authentic Cretan food, you’ll have a great time tasting locally produced fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, wine, and of course the best olive oil in the world. You will find a wide range of restaurants which extend from the harbour at the west, where you can chose a restaurant along the sea walls, to the hotels at the east of the village, which have views over the beach down to the sea.
Dining out in Crete is very much a family affair and you will have plenty to choose from and choosing is the hard part as they are all very good with everything from Pizzerias to traditional Greek cuisine, something for everyone.
South East Crete
Crete is the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands and this provides visitors with interesting contrasts, known for its beautiful scenery, rugged mountains which rise to over 2000 meters above sea level, plateau, gorges, beautiful sandy beaches, history and rocky coves.
It measures about 200 Km from east to west, and between 12 to 58 Km from north to south at its narrowest and widest distances, making it one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean sea.
Crete has short, mild winters and dry, warm summers, this along with the fertility of the Cretan plains produces sufficient food to support an affluent local population, and for exports.
There is a rich history and culture to be discovered with archaeological sites spread across the island, legend has it that Crete is the Birthplace of Zeus, Icarus fell to his death ignoring his father’s warnings about not flying to close to the sun and is the home of the legendary Minotaur.
Visitors have plenty of opportunities to explore the island by car, walking, hiking, climbing and mountain biking (for the brave).
If you're looking for the perfect unspoilt fishing village, with golden sandy beaches and traditional tavernas, and want to stay in a stunning brand new air-conditioned penthouse apartment with spectacular sea & mountain views, you've just found it!
