The ultimate, entertaining, Texas Hill Country home holds a special place in local history. Hill Country River Retreat thoughtful renovations were completed throughout this home’s interior, preserving much of its original charm while adding modern style and conveniences. The living area is very open, has a rock fireplace with a television overhead, very high ceilings and a gorgeous Rustic Chandelier and is open to the dining room where the farm table seats 16 and a wet bar/game area! This beautiful home can accommodate up to 32 guests.
The almost wrap around front porch adds curb appeal to this historic home and give guests a place to relax and watch the world go by, complete with luxurious cantina, you could barbecue on the big pit or watch the game on the outdoor TV. Play on the pickle ball and basketball court! There’s also horseshoes, ping pong or washers to keep the guest entertained! There is a fire pit in front of the home, with plenty of seating for roasting smores' and to enjoy the gorgeous river bluff views. Walk down the limestone rock bottom & you will soon be met by deep clear spring fed water, perfect for kayaking or fishing. Enjoy the Texas shaped sitting area and fire pit at the waters' edge. If you like the indoors, have fun in the "man cave" downstairs that offers foosball and poker table, a big sectional for watching movies and an extra refrigerator/freezer! The main level offers a master bedroom that consists of a king-sized bed + a full ensuite bathroom. The second level upstairs features two bunk rooms each have four sets of bunk beds, comfortably sleeps eight in each room. Also, on this level there is a bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with a full and twin bed. Two bathrooms with double vanities are on this floor as well. The third level offers a king bed, full bathroom, twin bedroom, coffee & wine bar, living area and library with desk. There is an additional Sunday House that consists of two queen beds + full bathroom, the second floor (considered as a loft) contains two twin beds.

Hill Country Home
We enjoyed our stay for a family reunion. Lots of basketball and pickleball, nightly talks around the fire, and plenty of rooms for games. The main area and the outside area gave our big group lots of room to spread out. The river by the house is pretty shallow, but the little kids enjoyed catching minnows with nets.

Great Hill Country Escape
Enjoyed a long weekend with a large group of friends at this spacious location on the Guadalupe. Perfect for large groups and hanging out with friends and excursions to Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock, Fishing and golf.

Great location for family gathering
Totally unique home with great features for family or a similar gathering. Fantastic great room with huge fireplace and giant TV. Wonderful outdoor facilities--we were there during a few very cold days so we didn't use the beautiful outdoor features much.

Reunion Getaway
This was a great site for our family reunion. There was plenty of room for the children to play and gathering places for conversation inside out. Our family really made use of the pickle ball court. And even though the water in the river was low we still were able to get plenty of river time. Mostly we enjoyed all being together in one place not everyone running off to their own cabin or hotel room!

Phenomenal property
I came to Hunt with some friends and had an amazing time! The property is stunning - the photos do not do it justice. The limestone cliffs are beautiful and there is a ton of space for people to spread out and have a good time - whether playing corn hole, pickle ball, hanging by the river, enjoying a fire - this property has everything. I highly recommend the place for any group!

Awesome Place for a Family Reunion
The property is beautiful with plenty of space for the entire family. So many amenitites! We spend most of our time at the outdoor Cantina - perfect area to serve buffet meals. The river was a little low, but we made the best of it. We loved the shallow water for the kids to play! We were very impressed with the amount of dishes and cookware available. Plenty of glasses and coffe mugs! The host was the BEST!

Hunt Lodge
We had a wonderful New Year’s weekend with our families and friends who have gathered together in the hill country for the past 20 years. The property can accommodate a large group of all ages comfortably. We especially enjoyed the fire pit, pickle ball and the spacious dining and living areas where we shared meals together, played games and watched the bowl games. Thanks for being a terrific host!

Wonderful place for big groups
I took a group of 24 guys out for a reunion and we had a blast. The property is big enough to bed everyone and the location is amazing. The big grill is legit and we spent a lot of time cooking and feeding the crew, but we were also close enough to towns to get some BBQ delivered one night to make things easy. The river was lower than normal, which had us a bit worried but it was still incredible and swim worthy. There is not much service out there, but it didn't matter at all because the WIFI is so strong that no one had speed issues even with us streaming football. We we're even able to get signal far off the property. All-in-all, if you have a big group, I highly recommend.

I asked that no fragrance be used and was told that none would be. But strong glade spray was used in the Sunday House and there were 6 plug-in air fresheners in the big house. As a result, I felt sick for the 4 days we were there. Things were not very well maintained - doors, toilet, lamp, toaster, poor sink draining. The house was not real clean. No doors to close off the bunk room. No blinds in the bunk room. On a positive note, the 2nd foor A/C did not work but was fixed within 24 hours. And the lighting was mostly quite good. The outdoor space was ample and comfortable. It was nice to walk around the property, especially by the river. Note that there is no hot tub, and the beds in the Sunday house are not queen size, but rather double size.

Spacious quarters, gathering areas, but lack of maintenance at Hunt Hawthorne Compound
The home in Hunt is in beautiful surroundings. It has many lovely outdoor areas for gatherings, fun, playing and fellowship. The house is enormous and sleeps many comfortably. Our family had a great Thanksgiving celebration. The house, though spacious, is an older, ordinary builder home with builder finishes and somewhat outdated, though nice, interiors. The kitchen is very, very tight if folks are preparing a meal together. The one dishwasher does not clean the dishes. It is a very old base model . The soap dispenser does not work. It must per run several times or the dishes may be hand washed. It is unexplainable to have an inexpensive, non-working dishwasher for a house that sleeps 26. There was a water failure on Thanksgiving Day, leaving our 15 family members without water. One of our family members, well-acquainted with country pumps and water systems, found that the system had been "jerry-rigged". The owner or the manager, knew a large group would be arriving and did not repair the pump and water system before our arrival. The person in charge did, as quickly as possible on Thanksgiving Day, dispatch plumbers to repair it, but we spent our Thanksgiving afternoon and evening waiting with the foreman for the plumbers. We did get water after 9PM. The plumbers reported it was just a temporary fix and they would be back in the morning. They never came back. It would be prudent to check and verify the water system is completely repaired. Several of the original sliding glass doors, in the large front room were very difficult to operate. When we were able to open several, they would not close, therefore the building was unsecured at night. It would seem that the owner's pattern is disrepair, poor maintenance, and older appliances. Unfortunately, the owner is not in love with this property. It could use some loving care and updating. It is nice and has spacious quarters and living areas perfect for family. The outdoor areas allow for people gathering, large fields for playing or walking. It has such potential for being fabulous, but it could use some maintenance and love. Our family had a great time and were only hampered by the water failure and the dysfunctional dishwasher. The location is lovely and very convenient to Kerrville, Hunt and the Texas hill country camps.

Great River Retreat
Our group of 20 friends had so much fun on this property! So spacious, great grand room and cantina, private access to the river and we especially enjoyed the carved out pool. Much attention to detail. Plenty of toiletries, spices, serving/cookware, and river floats/chairs. My husband and I slept in the Sunday House, and while I can’t speak for the rest of the group, and our bed was super comfort. The property manager is very nice and accommodating. Such a great property that promotes congregating and leisure.

Just what we needed
So this place is beautiful! What an amazing place to get away from everyday life and just soak up nature and enjoy being together. We stayed for High School Retreat for our Juniors and Seniors, from a small Christian school. The bunk beds were perfect for the boys with plenty of bathrooms and space. The small group of girls LOVED the Sunday house. All the kids utilized the basement game room, the outdoor court and porch and we all enjoyed the river. It’s remote, far from “civilization” and we didn’t mind a bit!
