Potter Cottage is situated in the heart of Kintbury. There are plenty of lovely walks nearby and the Kennet & Avon canal is within easy reach for fishing and cycling. The village has 2 nice pubs, an excellent corner store, delicatessen and a part-time bakery just a minute’s walk away. The property is also only a short distance from the station for trains to Newbury/Hungerford (5 minutes) Reading (35 minutes) or London (55 minutes).
The space
Our cottage has an open-plan kitchen, living room with wood-burner and 2 double bedrooms upstairs with built-in cupboards, the main one featuring a beautiful cast-iron fireplace. The bathroom (shower only) is just off the kitchen. Downstairs is fitted with underfloor heating, upstairs there are panelled wall heating, each room of which is operated by individual remote controls. Please note that the stairs are narrow and therefore our property is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The sofa in the living-room doubles as a sofa-bed, so is a useful short-term facility for extra visiting guests: please let us know if you require this, so we can provide appropriate bedding etc. There will be an additional supplementary fee of £20 per person per night.
Outside: There is a parking space directly opposite the cottage, in front of the green garage door for 2 small cars or 1 family one. Please note this space is not suitable for vans or commercial vehicles. Parking on the High Street (first come, first served) is free.
Guest access
Rental includes use of our beautifully rustic garden, opposite the property. It’s mostly laid to lawn with decking at the end and comfy wooden garden furniture, perfect for a glass of something chilled in the evening. Next to the decking is our entrancing garden office, complete with heating and Wi-Fi – the ideal WFH set-up. TP-LINK_74DA password 24057240
A barbecue is provided, but we would really appreciate it if it could be clean and emptied before leaving, ready for the use of our next guests. Many thanks.
We have several sheds and are happy to store bikes or other sporting equipment during your stay.
Other things to note
We provide clean bedding and towels at the start of your stay which are changed either weekly or at our guest’s request. Access to the dryer is in a shed in the garden.
The nearest town, Hungerford (around 3 miles away), has a Co-Op, Tesco and Boots pharmacy. There is also a fantastic traditional butcher and a weekly Wednesday open market.
A continental breakfast including freshly baked pastries, cereals, bread, as well as tea, ground coffee and fruit juice can be provided on request at a charge of £8.00 per person or £14 for 2 persons.
The Woodburner. The fire will be made up seasonally for guest use and a complimentary basket of kindling and kiln dried logs are provided: subsequent baskets are charged at £10.00. The fire provides additional heating not only in the living room, but also the radiators in the kitchen and the bedrooms. So technically, if you are using the wood burner, there is no need to turn on the wall heaters upstairs. However, if the fire is roaring you may hear a curious ‘kettling’ noise, hollow and rather rhythmic: don’t be alarmed, it’s just to do with the pipe-work, and will lessen once the fire is at an even burn.
Washing machine. Please always use the Calgon tablets provided (unwrap and add to main compartment in drawer) as the water here is extremely hard. Do not dry clothes on the radiators or in the house as these cottages are very prone to condensation.
Tumble-Dryer. Located in the first garden shed. We provide organic wool drying balls which helps to dry clothes faster and make garments softer when added to the drum during the drying process. You are also welcome to use the washing line in the garden.
