Peaceful and relaxing
Beautiful and cute cottage. Perfect little weekend getaway. Paddleboat was broken when we got there, but still enjoyed the lake beauty.

Excellent rental on the lake
The house was exactly as pictured and described in the rental listing. Beautiful neighborhood located on a quiet cove with a fenced area for pets and gazebo on the dock. 5 stars for sure!

Great lakeside vacation.
Absolutely loved the property. Perfect location. Exactly as described in overview. Best equipped kitchen we have had. Which covers about 5 years of stays at various properties. The only improvement I would recommend is, ditch the paddle boat and replace with kayak or canoe. We would highly recommend this property.

comfy, cozy fall weekend getaway with friends
Coming from all different directions and converging on Smith Mountain Lake, we all had the same impression of the house and amenities. Perfect for our getaway. We enjoyed the game "room" , took walks, went fishing, enjoyed sitting in the gazebo at the dock, had a fire at the fire pit, played games and ate at the dining room table, put together yummy meals in the bright and sunny kitchen, took a ride to Moneta and visited some shops and hung out in the cozy living room to watch TV. Looking forward to another visit next year !!!

Great place to stay
Started off a bit stressful as we were given the wrong lock box code and it took several calls to reach someone. Issue was fixed promptly at that point. Great location, perfect for dogs, could enter water on small sand beach or jump off the dock. Lots of fun there! Perfect for our pups too. Pups could stay gated with us on the deck when we hung out. Had morning coffee in the dock gazebo and watched the visiting deer. Teens loved game room. Pleasant neighbors too. Fire pit was awesome too-perfect for roasting hot dogs and making smores. Very relaxing and enjoyable place!

Great Holiday Weekend
Wonderful location, great dock we’re we caught a ton of fish, plus it was easy to use the kayaks off of it. Gorgeous views the minute you walk in, loved the fire pit and deck area. Super dog friendly side yard, they even had dog bowls. The kitchen had every type of cooking implement, utensils, etc you needed. They had lots of books and dvds, games. Our kids are Grown but would be wonderful for little ones! Deer through out the neighborhood. 15 minute drive to store, restaurants and even wineries. We really enjoyed our stay! Only complaint is there were a lot of spiderwebs that needed to be taken care of on the outside.

Our Family's New Favorite Place
Everything comes as promised at "Here Comes The Sun." And that's a rare thing. Whereas many rental properties pale to their photos and write-ups, this one shines brighter in real life. Me, my wife, and 2 young kiddos had a blast over a long weekend: fishing on the dock, hanging out on the lake "beach," taking the pedal boat for a cruise, roasting s'mores in the fire pit, and playing pool in the game room. I never write reviews, but this place brought us such happiness in a time when we needed it most that I felt compelled to. Have a blast and treat this property well. Cheers!

Amazing house, great location
My sister and I decided to change up our normal international summer vacation to stay stateside and just relax this year. This house, SML and the community were just want we needed. The house was super clean, had everything we could ever need and was perfect for the two of us and our dog. The neighborhood is 5 mins from the State Park that offers trails, bike rides, a beach and boat rentals. It was the perfect location. The water was so clean and clear that many days we just jumped in off the dock and floated around. As did the neighbors who were so nice and friendly. Its about a 15 min drive to Moneta which offers lots of restaurants and grocery options. I can't wait to come back and have told all my friends about this hidden gem. Thank you for providing the most relaxing week in a long time.

Beautiful Lake
I stayed with my family for Memorial Day weekend. The property was true to the description -- sunny, good for families, and dog friendly. The house was clean and the water near the dock was clear. However, when we arrived at the check-in time they couple (and their young daughter) was still working on the house. In the downstairs bedroom the ceiling fan stopped working and they were replacing it. The couple was very nice but we found it hard to relax while they were there. Finally after more then three hours my husband offered to help and the fan was installed within ten minutes. Additionally, it would have been nice if the outside patio and paddle boat was clean. We clean the paddle boat but it smelled horrible. Despite the few hiccups we would recommend this property to others.

Nice place, just needs some maintenance
We had a great weekend with friends but we did notice a few maintenance items that needed to be addressed at the property. There is a broken window in the kitchen (glass is cracked). The arm is off the storm door so it couldn't be propped open and slammed shut on us as we tried to carry luggage in and out. There is a ground hornet nest just outside the sitting area around the fire pit. When we opened the grill to use it we had to clean it first because it had been neglected so long there was mold growing in it. I appreciated the thought of a fenced dog run but with it being all gravel I couldn't leave my dog in there because there was nowhere for her to lay down, maybe consider decking a small space in there would be a huge improvement? Thankfully my girl has excellent house manners so even though we were sharing the house with other friends she was fine just hanging out in the house with us. On the positive side I loved that there was a gate on the porch so we could allow her to be out there with us. We all liked that it was a peaceful setting with beautiful views for a relaxing weekend away. We enjoyed walks around the quiet neighborhood and taking pictures of a family of whitetail deer who allowed us to watch them grazing each evening.

Perfect getaway
This house is a perfect getaway if you want to be active and use the lake or simply relax on the deck. It is so dog friendly with the dog yard - my dog and I played out there a ton! We were able to cook our meals and just hang out on the deck and enjoy the views. The state park entrance is around the corner and we enjoyed hiking in the mornings. Great house!

Dog & Family friendly - a sunny place to stay
Overall, we LOVED this place and hope to visit it again. It was very dog friendly, which is hard to find (separate, but connected fenced yard, fenced deck, dog friendly neighbors, etc.). The deck by the water has a cute gazebo, the game room was a hit with our teens, the sandy beach and kayaks were in great condition, the cove is not crazy busy even on a holiday weekend, and the place was clean and well stocked with standard kitchen/bathroom necessities. My only feedback would be a clearer list of what to bring vs. what they have, further in advance - plan to bring or rent sheets/towels, they have a regular coffee machine, no kettle, but there is a gas grill. They do have paper products to get started, but knowing it's a bit of a drive to a store, bring extras with you as well as things like foil/plastic wrap, spices etc. Thank you for having us!!

Relaxing getaway
Very nice house and we liked that we and our friends could bring or small dogs. Plenty of kitchen supplies, very nice deck and great area for the pups. Plenty of cul decsacs to also walk your pets too. Rectangular small screened in porch area which was great for the day it rained All Day! We also used the kayaks which was nice to have. The game room needs a little updating as the foos ball table and ping pong table need some balancing but we had fun with the ping pong. The AC unit in the garage did not stay on But we weren’t in there a great deal of the time. It’s a great house if you have kids b/c the upstairs has 2bedrooms and PlayStation in the sitting area for the young adults. We really liked watching the deer-a group of 6/7 that hang around a lot. Would definitely go again!

Nice little place on the lake
Overall our stay was great. It was a little musty in the house when we first got there, but that was probably because it was raining. Other than that, it was a great place to stay for the week. The dock was not big, but it was adequate for docking our boat. On the topic of nature, there are random groups of deer just strolling around the neighborhood all day. At one point there were 7 deer watching me fish in the morning. I was more worried about my dogs seeing them than I was about the deer themselves. Great little place to get away for the week, just be careful when driving around the lake and watch for deer. The wife liked the water pressure in the shower and wanted me to mention that the bedroom is pitch black at night (which was awesome).

Another great weekend
We chose to stay here again this year after loving all the amenities for traveling with our dogs and 4yr old when we stayed last summer! We were a little disappointed the kayaks have a lot of wear and tear and aren’t as functional this year from broken seat backs. We enjoyed the option of the garage game room to pass some time during the rain. The lake was beautiful as always, we loved it was still warm enough for a swim but some peaks of fall starting to come out!

Here Comes the Sun -- Review July 2022
Great location, privacy. Dog run is very convenient and secure. Love having the kayaks -- used them a lot -- but brought my own vests. The main deck needs some major work -- several rot spots and rough boards are dangerous for feet and paws. Air Conditioning seems to have been upgraded!! I don't recall the 2 zone system last year (2021) and it worked super well this year (2022). I wish there was direct water access without rip wrap (rocks) on the right side of the dock. That would provide much better swimming access for people and pets. As it is, if you access the water from the tiny beach, you have to swim in the narrow gap between your dock and the neighbor's dock to get to the larger area. But overall, a nice place with lots of amenities to enjoy.

secluded cove; accomodations need upkeep
Overall good: Kayaks were a big plus, boat dock was convenient and accessible without a lot of waves. Downside: basement was musty, shower curtain was moldy, different height of one inside stair going to second floor caused falls, protruding screw on deck off living room, dock 'handrail' to step on lower dock is too near the post and pinches fingers .

Horrible mattresses and dirty bathtub
The property itself was well stocked and in a good location. Unfortunately we hardly slept because the king mattress sinks to the middle and is very uncomfortable. Upon arrival the main level bathtub had several pieces of hair in it so we had to clean it ourselves. Not what I expect for a rental property.
