Huairou is a remote area about 1.5-2.0 hours drive from Beijing depending on traffic. If you want to get away from the city and explore a rural Chinese town, this is your place with quick access to the Wall.
It was nice to stay in the quiet little town of Huairou. One small drawback is that there were not many restaurants due to the size of the town. But the one our hosts took us to was very good.
We’ll come back and stay again, we spent 2 days here, only had time to visit the Great Wall, there’s more to see!
Beijing was a nice 1-2 day trip. Would recommend seeing the Forbidden City and the Great Wall while visiting.
