Tiny Tuloon Off-Grid Amish crafted log cabin near the BWCA & SHT - Sled Dogs!

Modern off grid with sled dogs! SHT Day Trippers - one FREE SHT Shuttle to trailheads off of the Arrowhead Trail, with a 3 night stay. Sled Dog Cuddles included!

Our dogs rule the roost so, sadly, we can not allow your pets.

The Tiny Tuloon Cabin is an Off-Grid, Minnesota Amish-Crafted log cabin leaving nothing to be desired if your goal is peace and simplicity.

Lake Superior, Superior Hiking Trail, BWCA, Waterfalls, Grand Marais & Grand Portage, MN, Dark Sky Sanctuary. The Tiny Tuloon Cabin is entirely off-grid and located in the remote north woods of Minnesota's Arrowhead Region. It is a peaceful lifestyle, living and working with sled dogs. You can immerse yourself in our lifestyle or use our place as your home base for adventure.

The space
Not only one of the most unique lodging options you will find along Lake Superior's North Shore or near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the Superior Hiking Trail, but an absolutely one-of-a-kind experience! Our Tiny Tuloon Cabin was hand crafted by our Amish friends in southwestern, Minnesota and has a beautiful pine log interior, pine floors and a pine vaulted ceiling. Linda's mother provides all of the handmade quilts and her father contributed the wood turned items - it's a family affair!

There is a matching spacious log outhouse just down the short driveway from the cabin.

Due to multiple safety requirements associated with a propane powered, off-grid cabin, The Tiny Tuloon Cabin at Points Unknown is not suitable for young children. Older children must be attended by an adult at all times and not left to wander.

Parking is next to the cabin after winter break up and before the first big snow. During winter months, you will park near our homestead and use a sled to snowshoe your things to the cabin. It is a short distance. Sleds and snowshoes are provided, if needed.

We LOVE pets and animals in general, but because we have sled dogs, you will need to leave your pets at home

*Don't forget to check out the Homestead Store in the main homestead along with the Scent from Nature Pure Beeswax Candle workshop.

The Tiny Tuloon Cabin allows you to participate fully in our lifestyle with traditional sled dogs. The cabin is just a short wander from the main, modern and comfy off-grid homestead. If you book a stay of 5+ nights, a shower in the main house is included. Otherwise, you can heat up water or melt snow in the winter for a sponge bath. The matching log outhouse has an amazingly warm seat and is shared with two of our Points Unknown staff members.

Join us for a dog sledding experience, a Mindful Paddle or hike, a River Canyon Snow Trek or Wild Wander by day. Gaze at our ever-changing sky. From the screen porch, you will catch some beautiful sunrises and you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights dancing overhead. Then, let the tranquil howls of the sled dogs enchant and sing you to sleep. When you're ready for adventure, you'll find our Tiny Tuloon Cabin a warm and welcoming place to start your day.

Other things to note

Winter
Do I have to come for a dog sledding experience to stay at the Tiny Tuloon Cabin at Points Unknown in the winter? Not at all, but we sure do hope you take advantage of the opportunity! Our beautiful sled dogs are waiting to welcome you. Ask about our Bed & Sled packages. In addition, our River Canyon Snow Treks take you to places hidden deep in the woods and not traveled by the typical visitor to the area.

Spring, Summer & Fall

During the "off season", The Tiny Tuloon Cabin at Points Unknown is perfect for adventurers making their way on sections of the Superior Hiking Trail or other nearby trails or for paddles exploring all of the nearby lakes or the BWCA on day trips. We offer Mindful Paddling & Hiking Guide Services to our guests as well as Spring & Fall Wheeled Dog Sledding Tours. Our River Canyon Wild Wanders take you to places not seen by the typical visitor to the area.

What does "off-grid" look like at Points Unknown?

The Tiny Tuloon Cabin is in Minnesota's remote north woods, 35 minutes northeast of Grand Marais. We are located 7 miles from the conventional grid. If you have AT&T cell coverage, you may receive a signal from this remote location. If not, the phone at the homestead is available for emergencies.

The cabin has a cozy propane heating stove that looks like a woodstove for all of the ambiance yet lacks the wood smoke and mess. We have propane lights with LED back ups for warmer summer days, a propane refrigerator and a small propane oven/stove. There is a sink with a bucket underneath for grey water. The delicious drinking water comes from our own homestead well.

Check in is between 4PM and 8PM. When you book, we will ask for your email address so that we can send you the Guest check in details and a list of nearby sights so you can plan your trip. Upon arrival, you will come to the main homestead and we will take you down to The Tiny Tuloon Cabin for check in.

Check out is at 10AM.

It is a delight to find a VRBO exactly as advertised
A cozy, well designed and built cabin in the distant woods was my retreat last weekend and it was terrific! The cabin is just the right size for one person or two that enjoy each other. There is no electricity, internet, plumbing, or cell service but I had everything I needed, especially peace. The screened in porch was delightful in the evening as dozens of species of birds and frogs filled the woods with song. The propane wood stove was on a thermostat and provided charm as well as warmth. Fresh, delicious well water in a five gallon jug with a spigot was sufficient. And the seat in the outhouse was always warm. Seriously. I helped with the morning feeding of the Huskies and found the pups to all be well-mannered, disciplined, and fun! Linda, the proprietor, is friendly, no-nonsense, and eager help you enjoy your stay. I'm going back this winter for a ride on the dogsled. I recommend this place to anyone who loves the woods, adventure, and dogs.
