~Hurricane Helene Update as of Mid November~
Surprise Valley is Open!
Surprise Valley is 1 mile outside of the town of Hot Springs. We are so grateful that our home was unharmed by the storm, and you can reach it in any direction. While part of downtown Hot Springs is cleaning and rebuilding, the main road is open. Currently the Smoky Mountain Diner, Sara Jo's Gas Station, the Dollar General, and two convenience markets are open and would love your business.
Hot Springs downtown experienced flooding, and the main downtown section and Hot Springs Resort and Spa are in various stages of cleanup and repair.
Many trails are accessible around the area, and Hot Springs is a central location for adventures in Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and the Smokey Mountains National Park. Nearby attractions are the Biltmore Estate, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and more.
The house is located 35 minutes to Newport, TN (closest large grocery, Walmart, Lowes, fast food, etc), 1 hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, 1.5 hours from Dollywood, 1 hour from Asheville (parts of which are open).
We would love you to be our guest. This is such a beautiful and welcoming property to retreat to and enjoy the mountains in all seasons. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Just 1 mile from the heart of downtown Hot Springs lies a vibrant mountain house that is nestled in a wooded grove. An inviting atmosphere to kick back and relax in this soothing, stylish space. Take in the glorious sunsets. Grill dinner and build a roaring fire under the stars. Enjoy the warmth of the hot tub on cool mornings and evenings. Our home invites you to enjoy memorable time with family and friends. An airy, light filled space to invigorate all the senses awaits your next adventure!
This comfortable house has many open and welcoming spaces for you and your guests to gather and enjoy the best of the mountains in Western North Carolina, and the great little town of Hot Springs. Inside there is a large living room with wood stove, 6 beds (plus bonus room) to snuggle down after great adventures and chilling around the house. The home was recently updated by a family who welcomes groups to gather and have fun in their home. To engage with each other, to make and share food, play music, and relax on vacation. Every detail was well thought out so that you only need to bring your clothes and groceries. This is the essence of a mountain house.
Outside living- Surprise Valley was named appropriately; when you drive up the driveway and see the view behind the house, you will be in awe. You would never guess what is beyond the sweet house in the woods. The back deck, hot tub, and fire pit area are located above a wildlife pond and open farm that extends Westward to a beautiful mountain panorama. There are cows in the field, different species of birds visiting the pond, and breath taking sunsets to behold.
The front porch is perched above the wooded front hillside with comfortable seating. A great place to look for songbirds and listen to the wind in the trees.

The home includes many of the basic things you will need while visiting, including all linens, towels, dish soap, laundry soap, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, and small shampoos/conditioners. If you forget any essentials at home or need to replenish anything during your stay, there is a Dollar General in Hot Springs and a few other small shops that are open daily and convenient to the property.
Even though you may feel like there is no one else around, the home is situated in a rural neighborhood with normal sounds of kids and pets and cows mooing in the adjacent fields.
Hot Springs is a great destination in all seasons! The weather can be mild compared to higher mountains and roads are tended in the wintertime. The Hot Springs Spa is open year-around for hot mineral soaks. Restaurants and shops are open as well, and we love to hike the Lover's Leap trail on cool, sunny days when things are a bit quieter around here.
Summer is a wonderful season to enjoy many things to do outside, including rafting and tubing and venturing up to Max Patch Bald. The pace is slow and easy around town, and Hot Springs is also a great central location for day trips to Asheville, Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg, Waynesville, and many more adventurous locations.
Spring sees beautiful mountain wildflowers and hikers traveling through on the Appalachian Trail. The weather can go from 80-degree days to a dusting of snow and anywhere in between.
Fall never disappoints with endless potentials to see the trees changing at different elevations and finishing your day with a fire and soak in the natural hot springs (or your own private hot tub) or a beverage at Big Pillow Brewing.
A local management company is available to assist you if you need anything during your stay.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the home and area
