Welcome to "South Shore"! Our goal is to provide our guests with a 5 star experience from beginning to end. So far we have been able to do this by providing great communication, accurate photography, thoughtful amenities, technology, cleanliness, location, quality construction, but most importantly Southern friendliness.

The Location:
This impeccably maintained cottage is located on South Shore Drive in Surf City just about a mile south of the high rise bridge. This location allows for easy access on and off the island while also providing a bit of distance from the central business district. South Shore Drive is unique on Topsail Island for many reasons. It is close to the bridge, dining, shopping and groceries. It also offers a residential "board walk" off the main road. This 2 mile "board walk", or secondary road, has a 25 mph speed limit and offers the perfect place for a nice walk or morning run. Another advantage to 1021 South Shore is its proximity to a beach access about 150' (or three lots) to the South. And the property is one of the larger lots on the island that includes quite a few majestic maritime live oaks, that are rare among residential properties around here.
The House:
The house was chosen for its traditional beach cottage style. It has three bedrooms downstairs with a large living/dining/kitchen area as well as a large loft upstairs. The three bedrooms on the main level will be 1 King, 1 King and 1 Queen, the loft area has 4 Twins. The house has a total sleeping capacity of 10 people. In addition to the sleeping space upstairs there is a game nook with a foosball table, books and board games. Outside there is a large porch on the street side with both covered and open space. In the backyard there is a large pool with a slide and plenty of area to lounge, grill and enjoy time with friends and family. If you are a fisherman and would like to bring your boat to the island, South Shore is located 1 mile from the public boat ramp, and our driveway can easily accommodate up to a 30' boat/trailer. If you like to fish in the ocean, the boat ramp is roughly 8 miles via the ICWW from Topsail Inlet.
We have tried to make the house appealing to families and have included amenities we enjoy when we travel, to include beach chairs, two beach cruisers, and even a second refrigerator in the pantry.
Us:
We are not new to VRBO, feel free to review our property ID 916178 in downtown Wilmington, NC. We have learned from that experience that tenants are happiest when you provide a clean home, simple, yet well thought out furnishings, comfortable beds, a robust WIFI system, and a well stocked kitchen. We can also offer two local business references at 50 South Surf Shop and Herrings Outdoor. Both businesses are well established on the island and know our family well. We have also used VRBO in our travels and we feel like we know what most travelers expect from a vacation property.
And as far as our ties to Topsail, our extended family has had a strong presence on the island since the 1950's. Tay grew up across the street on the oceanfront side of the road at 1020 South Shore Drive, and his parents still own the property. And Becky & Tay got married on the South End of the island at Emma Anderson chapel in the 90's. Furthermore, we live 20 minutes away on the mainland so we definitely feel that we know the area and will be ideal hosts for your stay!
***Trip Protection*** We feel so strongly about trip protection during the Atlantic hurricane season(June 1st to November 30th) that with a seven day rental and a proof of purchase at the end of your stay we will provide a $100 refund. And if you are staying less than a seven day rental during the hurricane season, we highly encourage you to purchase trip protection through VRBO or your preferred third party vendor. Trip protection will be offered to you via VRBO once your booking is complete. Please accept Trip Protection.
***Fees*** A quick note about the number of fees renters are required to pay on VRBO. We are keenly aware that the amount and quantity of fees add up quickly on a vacation rental. But most of them are out of our control. The "service fee" is set by VRBO and the taxes are set by the state, county, and city. The cleaning fee and the linen fee are set by our vendors and represent the exact amount that we are charged. We feel both of our vendors are the best on the island. The "Property Fee" is a refundable excessive cleaning deposit and is there to protect us from intentional damage. Unfortunately, over the years we have had two renters on our properties where we have had to withhold a portion of this deposit.
