"The Cave" is a stylish and unique self-contained apartment under my centrally located 1885 West Hobart home. It is a 15 minute walk to the city centre and a short walk to the Elizabeth Street North Hobart cafe strip.
With the stairs to the entry and the bed in a raised platform "nook", "The Cave" may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for well located lodgings that ooze atmosphere I think you'll love it!
The space
The Cave is well appointed, private, cosy and comfortable, with access to the garden. I have put thought and effort into it having everything you might need, for a long or short stay. For e.g. the kitchen has everything you should need for cooking, including a stick blender, there is a bluetooth speaker for music, and there is Chromecast available on the TV. However, I request that you don't cook meat or fish (I am vegan and the smell lingers in the space and can transfer to my home upstairs).
Please note that there are stairs to negotiate and also that the bed is on a raised platform. Also, there may be guests (and me!) in the house above you, and though I have worked hard in the renovation to minimize sound transfer between the house and "the cave" you will likely hear some footsteps etc.
I am open to pets staying, but please check with me first. No more than 2 dogs are allowed and a one off additional cleaning fee of $20 per stay applies. Pets must be kept under control at all times (I have a cat and a dog - my dog is great with other dogs but my cat is less so, but tends not to spend a great deal of time in the garden). I supply clean covers for the couches, and can provide beds and bowls. Any mess in the garden must be cleaned up.
There is a couch I can make up as single bed (there is a charge of $20 per night for a 3rd guest). I also rent my guest room in the main house on occasion, so if there are more than two of you traveling and you are looking to stay together let me know and I can advise if the guest room is available and what the cost would be.
Guest access
I live upstairs, and so the garden and laundry outside "The Cave" is shared.
I live an eco-friendly lifestyle and would really appreciate your help with this. I try and minimise plastic use, I compost fruit and vegetable scraps (the compost bin is under the kitchen sink), recycle, and turn off lights and heating when they're not needed.
I supply breakfast, including a range of teas, coffee, sugar, non-dairy milks, and spreads (margarine, jams etc), organic and gluten-free mueslis and other cereals, fruit, and there is bread in the freezer for toast. I also supply oil, vinegar, salt and pepper for cooking, and there are some other basics (pasta, rice, etc). You're also welcome to help yourself to herbs from the garden. I am very happy to give you herbs and spices from my supply - just ask :-)
