Summary:
Experience the vibe of Tasmania’s colonial past in the meticulously restored and renovated c1850 ‘Devonshire House’ that’s peacefully nestled within footsteps of North Hobart’s trendy eateries and a 10 minute wander to the Hobart CBD. High ceilings, cosy fireplaces and timber flooring set the scene throughout a grand layout with formal living and dining rooms combining with a sleek contemporary kitchen and bathrooms to ensure your stay delivers an idyllic mix of luxury, elegance and convenience.
The Space:
A landmark Edwardian residence steeped in colonial history, it was originally the residence of the notorious John Price before he went on to command the even more notorious Norfolk Island convict establishment. Such was his cruelty, at his next posting in Melbourne, the convicts settled some old scores and he paid the ultimate price. Subsequently, author Marcus Clark used the story of John Price as a model for his character in Captain Frere in the acclaimed novel “For the Term of His Natural Life”. So there’s no skeletons here, but you can feel the ambience of yesteryear at every turn.
Spread over two floors with views to the Hobart skyline from the upper level, it includes a formal lounge room with a large leather lounge, second lounge and flat screen TV complemented by an elaborate gas fireplace and chandelier. The banquet-sized dining room is a real showstopper with its 8-seat timber dining table and cosy gas fireplace set underneath an antique candelabra. Sleek stainless steel benchtops line the kitchen that comes complete with a dishwasher and timber breakfast island, which also includes all the equipment you'll need to prepare a fine meal of Tassie produce
With the ability to sleep 10 people, it comprises five bedrooms, one king, three queen beds (one can be converted to 2 singles) and another with two single beds. One bedroom is on the ground floor. Please provide preference at time of booking. It also comes complete with two sleek contemporary bathrooms (one on each floor), timber study desks, internal laundry with washer and dryer, hydronic central heating system throughout (you'll be super cosy in Winter), exposed original timber doors, multi-paned sash windows, rich designer colour schemes, smart TV, Wi-Fi and a carport for your vehicle.
There’s a private leafy courtyard furnished with an outdoor alfresco dining setting with barbecue, where you'll be able to enjoy a glass of fine Tassie wine after an enjoyable day sightseeing in beautiful Hobart.
Managed by a specialist short stay accommodation company, it is professionally cleaned after each guest vacates, and all the sheets and bedding is maintained by a contract linen supplier.
