"Location: 5 mins from the station so an easy walk. Staff: they were friendly and helpful. Hotel: standard Toyoko inn so clean, and has everything you need for a nice stay including breakfast which has a nice variety so you’ll find something you like. Room: typical style for this chain hotel. Clean, fresh, with bathroom and shower unit. These rooms are the typical size which is fine.bed was comfortable. Food etc was all about 5 mins away. Plenty around the train station for people to enjoy. Hikone castle was an easy 15 ish minute walk away. The view at the castle was simply breathtaking as it looks out over the city but also Lake Biwa and it was a beautiful day so the view was amazing and it’s HIGHLY worth the visit just for the view. Castle and grounds will look amazing soon coming into spring as they have a plum orchard as well as cherry blossoms. Highly recommend the hotel and Hikone."

"We had a great experience staying at Yumotokan. The dinner was exceptional (very filling!) and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The variety of onsen baths was great, each one unique and beautiful. The futon beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. Loved our stay and would highly recommend to other travellers hoping for a ryokan experience that isn’t breaking the bank! "

"This place was cool, and had an emphasis on Americanism, with President roooms including a JFK room. It was really nice to experience! We noticed lot of school kids stayed in the hotel, probably for the American historical context, or that it was just right by one of the main train stops. Either way, the people in this area are all so nice and friendly, way more thab the big city of Tokyo. Genuinely enjoyed our stay around this place, and there's a ton of food options nearby, including a giant mall. The room we stayed in was pretty big, and the hotel staff are very helpful! Definitely reccomend staying here to explore the area, and to go visit Otsu and Koka Ninja House which isnt far from this hotel."

"I’ve been to many capsules across Japan and my stay here was at the too. Yes, I’ve stayed in Kyoto, Osaka, but wanted to spend a few days in Ōtsu and experience a slower pace and so glad I did! The reviews on Google and Orbitz rated The Calendar high so I gave it a try and I was not disappointed. However, I do need to mention if you are sensitive to smell you might notice the slight scent of smoke. The entire capsule is non-smoking, however there is a smoking room, that when smokers return it might linger with them. To me, I only noticed the first hour at check-in and after that I didn’t notice anything. The good? How about everything else! No elevator so if you have two luggage you might need to make two trips, but the steps you are greeted by a very popular Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel. The staff is friendly, professional and will make your stay pleasant. The bed is somewhat on the thin side and pillow non-existent, but overall I had no issues falling asleep. In your capsule you do have a TV but good luck finding anything with subtitles lol. The bathrooms and showers are modern and clean, The common area very spacious and relaxed. The bonus is it’s at the entrance/exit of the JR train station! Biwa Lake a 10-minute walk away. So if in Ōtsu looking to get away from the crowds I highly suggest a stay at The Calendar. I stayed for two nights and felt recharged going back to Osaka. 10-stars! Arigatō! "
