"A very different experience for a foreigner, and one that I cherished as a student of Buddhism. If you aren’t adventurous, I don’t recommend it, and if you go, please be curious, open, and full of respect. "Everything was good, cleanliness, space, friendly & helpful staffs, location & etc. The only discomfort I had was the thin layer of futon mattress. The blanket was warm and comfortable but the mattress was very thin. Not comfortable to sleep on."

"Despite Fudoin being a temple, the accommodations were truly excellent. Both the staff and the monks were extremely pleasant and helpful. It struck a balance of being respectful to the space with luxury. We opted for a garden view room and weren't disappointed. "Had a good one night stay here. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough time to see everything i wanted too, but it turned out to be perfect. You can drop off your luggage before and after you check in which is really nice. Highlights for me were the public bath, and morning ceremony."

"This will have to be my most favorite part of my trip to Japan. You will have to intentionally come here for the temple stay. First and foremost, the facility will ONLY ACCEPT CASH payment for the stay. Though my wife and I were not too fond of the shared wash rooms to wash up. "We got to stay here for the night of news years eve and enjoyed a vegetarian dinner. My husband cannot eat any wheat or gluten so the monks made sure he had a special vegetable dish with no soy sauce. The rooms were at first cold but with the heaters warmed up nicely. "The price was the best in the city, but this is no hotel as you can find somewhere else. Check-in and check-out was ok. There is no private shower, and with the rain, the ceiling was leaking. Okay-ish hotel. Messages you receive from the owner must be translated in English with Google Translate, but the check-in process pdf is in English."

"I wasn’t expecting multi-course dinners that included sashimi and other top quality ingredients. It was incredible, delicious and filling. Great breakfast buffet too. I was delighted with our stay, my boyfriend wasn’t happy about having to go to the onsen to shower, but he got into the spirit and enjoyed himself."

"Cool experience to stay in these lodgings. There is a heater in the room but the halls and bathrooms are pretty cold when it’s not warm out. The bath is amazing, so hot and relaxing. The morning prayers were very cool to experience. You do sleep on traditional futons and pillows, so if you’re picky about your pillow you might want to bring your own. "We booked two nights, but only stayed for one. The photos on this listing were of a different room than we got. The room was around 7 feet wide and way too small for a couple with luggage. The outside tub was for only one person at a time. I asked for an extra futon for extra padding (the futons were maybe 2 inches thick) and there was an extra charge per night. "I love the onsen beside the river"

"Fantastic immersion in Japanese culture with a gorgeous view of the Sea of Japan and the fishing village. Top rate Onsen. Used the shuttle but we were not provided with the pick up location which was very difficult to find. Make sure you book it as it only leaves once a day. The room had no hot water, even though we were informed to run the tap. The heater was in need of cleaning. Very isolated location with no access to other food options. Be prepared for this."
