Where can you find so many contrasts: 51 ice giants over 4000 meters, glacier tongues, crystal clear mountain lakes but also wine growing and tropical fruits in the Rhone Valley. High alpine and Mediterranean so within a few kilometers. The Walliser Verkehrsverband has prepared hikes from just a few hours to tours lasting 7 days. A circular hike around the Val d`Hérens (past the Lac des Dix, the highest reservoir in Europe, several glacier tongues and an enchanting landscape) and the "Summer Haute Route" from Chamonix to Zermatt (past many four-thousand-meter peaks: Mont- Blanc, Grand-Combin, Dent-Blanche, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa). The chalet is on the edge of these paths; it offers an ideal starting point. Hiking and tour descriptions are available in the chalet. Mountain biking (including 145 km "Grand Raid Cristalp" race, 4000 participants), tennis, paragliding, rafting, horse riding and other activities are offered to the athlete. Indoor pools (Thyon / Sion) and outdoor pools / bathing lakes in the Rhone Valley invite you to swim. The Mont-Fort glacier is open for summer skiing from late June to early / mid-August. Sion owns a golf course. Excursions to the Rhone Glacier, through the vineyards on the north side of the Rhone Valley or into the Val d`Hérens are also impressive.
Shops, restaurants and bars can be found in Les Collons and Thyon 2000. Sion has a sports center and the infrastructure of an idyllic Swiss town; it offers a number of museums, a castle and other sights. During the summer holidays, music festivals and other cultural events take place here every year.
Winter in the Valais: Skiing starts 150 m in front of the front door on a slope, which is also artificially covered with snow, halfway up a chairlift descent (Red slope). The chairlift takes you to Les Collons, here direct connections to the ski areas Thyon 2000, Veysonnaz, Haute-Nendaz and Siviez (Super-Nendaz). With the integrated ski pass you can use the entire ski area of the Quatre Vallées to Verbier. The slopes of Les Collons / Thyon 2000 are mostly easy to intermediate, but also offer good skiers the best options. The deep snow slopes below the Mont Fort glacier (3300 m, summer ski area) and the Mont Gelé, which are constantly being rediscovered, are particularly appealing to experienced skiers. A large number of other very demanding slopes can be found in Haute-Nendaz and Verbier. Interesting ski tours are possible from Mont-Fort and Greppon Blanc. Floodlit night skiing in Les Collons is an attraction. Veysonnaz usually hosts the ski professionals for one or two weekends in December / January, who collect World Cup points in slalom, downhill and combination here. There are no restrictions for snowboarders; A half-pipe has even been built in Les Collons. Snowboard races are organized regularly. The ski area is usually snow-sure from Christmas to after Easter due to the use of snow cannons. From Siviez, the glacier is usually open from November; the rest of the ski area opens at the beginning of December, depending on the snow conditions. The facilities close one to two weeks after Easter, in Siviez only in May. Skiing on the Mont Fort Glacier is possible during the summer holidays. Hiking in the untouched nature, the fresh mountain air and the above-average sunshine make Valais interesting for non-skiers too, winter hiking trails, cross-country trails and snowshoe trails have been created. Les Collons and Thyon 2000 offer an indoor pool and shops, restaurants and bars. Sion has a sports center and the infrastructure of an idyllic Swiss town
