At the end of Bark Point you'll find the start of your amazing vacation on Lake Superior! This custom-built log home is the perfect home base for an unforgettable escape to the South Shore. The property features incredible views of the lake, spectacular spaces for your group to gather & relax, a gourmet kitchen, screen porch (and deck) facing the lake, and more - all on a nearly three-acre parcel set far off the road, giving you privacy & serenity.
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
The home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 35 minutes away, as is Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 45 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
The interior of the home is anchored by the great room, with soaring two-story ceilings, a wood fireplace, ample comfy seating, and our favorite feature: Teddy, the bison. The great room flows right into the open-plan kitchen & dining room. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with gas stove, huge kitchen island (with its own prep sink), tons of counter & cabinet space, and all the equipment you need to feed the whole gang. The dining nook is surrounded by windows, so you'll have the lake as a spectacular backdrop for all of your meals.
From the first floor common areas you can walk right out onto the deck or onto the screen porch. The deck and porch are both large enough for your whole group, and they face the shore for close-up views of sunrise and sunset on the Big Water. The deck also has a table and a set of chairs for outdoor dining, and a grill for outdoor cooking--all with that spectacular view in the background.
The downstairs is rounded out by the main bedroom with en suite bath and a private set of doors out to the screen porch. And if you need to get some work done, there's a beautiful office space with its own view out to the trees. You'll also find a half bath off the common areas.
Upstairs, you’ll find two more bedrooms which share a Jack and Jill bathroom. Both bedrooms have spectacular views of the lake: since you're a bit higher up, you can see farther out, often all the way to the North Shore in Minnesota. Our favorite spot in the house is the upstairs lounge: it has a daybed, a reading nook, and a treadmill, for workouts in rainy (or snowy) weather.
Bark Point Lodge is the perfect spot for a romantic get-away or an extended family gathering. The entire home is furnished with your comfort and convenience in mind: comfy furniture in every room, cozy throws, over-stuffed throw pillows, fully-stocked kitchen, and even a beverage cart that's ready to roll wherever you need it!! We want you to forget about the realities of day-to-day life the minute you drive onto the property, and enjoy the comfort, beauty, and peace this very special place has to offer.
The exterior of the home features a spacious yard for outdoor games, lounging, or just sitting on the deck and enjoying a favorite beverage while enjoying the amazing views and lake breezes. And if you’re lucky, you’ll have a visit from the eagles who live nearby!
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
