Within walking distance to the village pub and beach, there is so much to do. Visit Porthleven, a lovely fishing harbour surrounded by cafés, restaurants, and small shops popular with visitors. Wander around the streets, sit and have a coffee or pop into one of the galleries. Locals and visitors make the most of this area with paddle boarding, kayaking, and surfing and for little ones, crabbing off the harbour wall or playing in the shallows of the water are firm favourites. If you enjoy walking there are plenty of paths to follow, you can walk along the coast path to Loe Bar, this is a long circular walk or just take one of the shorter routes.
One of the best beaches is Praa Sands 6½ miles away towards Penzance. This long sandy beach is a favourite for families and people who like water sports, and you can even have lessons and hire the equipment. There is plenty of parking and facilities including a café, shop, and bar so no need to rush home to eat. If you head to Penzance just over 13½ miles away you will find Newlyn, Mounts Bay and Marazion all worth a visit.
Heading towards Helston is the Lizard, the most southerly part of the UK, home to the Minack Theatre, Lizard lighthouse and heritage centre. There are amazing walks where you can see a variety of wildlife, stunning coastlines, and beautiful beaches, or you can book to see a show at the Open Air Minack Theatre. There are lots of National Trust properties and gardens to visit, for children there is Flambards in Helston which caters from toddlers upwards, and for those that like history, visit the Victorian village and the Blitz.
