Enjoy a unique and artistic experience at this centrally-located historic gem. Built in 1889, it is both awe-inspiring and inviting and an easy 5-minute walk to Last Chance Gulch in downtown Helena.
We manage the property remotely from out of state on behalf of the owners, who are family. Though we do not live in Montana we travel to Helena often and feel at home when we're in town. We would love to give recommendations to support your stay and are happy to answer any questions you have before and during your stay through your booking platform.

Come be blown away by the care and style that has been infused into this incredible space. The property was originally built by Germans in 1889 to become the German Lutheran Church. In the 1990s it was converted to an art studio and gallery space, and in 2023 it was lovingly acquired, enhanced, and curated by a local couple, an artist and rancher, and made into this unforgettable living space.
The Church has been updated thoughtfully to the last detail yet maintains original aspects that unite its history with the present. Upon entering the Church through its original double doors you will be struck by the spacious nave which includes the primary living area. Featuring incredible windows that scale 40 feet to the ceiling, it feels both vast and incredibly cozy and inviting at once. Much of the art adorning the walls was made by the owner, with a fusion of natural treasures from their working cattle ranch.
From the living area, you will quickly notice the chancel has been converted into a stunning and modern kitchen boasting a convection stovetop, updated cabinetry, and all of the conveniences to accommodate guests who love to cook for a short or longer-term stay. Just down-step from the kitchen chancel area is a large dining table with lovely modern light fixtures, as well as high chairs available for tiny guests.
Alongside the kitchen is a large bathroom with shower and updated vanity, as well as a large utility room with washer and dryer available for guest use.
A breathtaking ascent up the stairs in the nave brings you to an additional sleeping nook, entertainment area with 65 inch television, and an adorable children's area with playhouse, kid-sized kitchen, and Montessori-style toys.
There are two bedrooms and one loft space, each with a queen-sized bed, accommodating a total of 6 adults.
-Bedroom ONE has beautiful double doors and is off of the main living area, facing the chancel. It has two windows and an open-face closet, plus one dresser. A/C window unit provided.
-Bedroom TWO is off of the main entrance before entering the nave. It has one window and a dresser. A/C window unit provided.
-The third bed is located in the loft space upstairs off of the entertainment area. It has three-walls in a cozy nook, which is why it is not categorized as its own bedroom. It has a hanging rack in the entertainment area available to store clothes.
The home is a very short walk via sidewalks to Last Chance Gulch. Helena is extremely bike friendly in the warmer months. There is plenty of room to stores bikes on the property if you are bringing them in tow. A car makes it very easy to access anything and everything the town has to offer, including activity trials with beautiful vistas just minutes away. See our guest manual for our favorite trails!
Because the Church takes up the full lot, the property does not include any available outdoor space. It is a block away from nearby quaint Kessler Park which is a lovely place to picnic or play outside as desired when the weather and temperatures are right.
Despite its large size, the home can accommodate a max of six (6) adults to maintain the comfort of one bathroom. Additional guests and events may be allowed in certain circumstances, please inquire.
In colder months, The Church maintains a cozy and comfortable temperature thanks to heating throughout the home.
In warmer months, there is no A/C in the main nave of the Church, but A/C window units are provided in Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 2 for your comfort. We recommend closing windows during the day and opening them at night to maintain cooler temperatures inside.
The upstairs loft includes tension rods to maintain the security and structure of the space. The rods are wrapped in Styrofoam as a safety measure, but please do watch your head when using the loft.
