4 bedroom period Townhouse in the heart of Hebden

A three-story Stone built character building, Skylarks Townhouse dates from the end of England's Regency era, the period of Jane Austen's novels and the Bridgerton TV series. Originally attached at the top floor to nearby Crossley Mill, it once housed prominent Mill workers and by the turn of the next century was the home of Wilburt Ashburton the Mill manager. Now a children’s nursery, the mill chimney is a feature of the stunning views from the rear of the property. A stone's throw from independent shops, dog-friendly cafes, art spaces, workshops and local market stalls, the townhouse provides comfortable, spacious accommodation in the heart of Hebden Bridge.

Spend your days discovering the surrounding area. Hebden Bridge is a great spot for walkers to base themselves, being on the edge of the South Pennines and close to the Yorkshire Dales. Nearby are Hardcastle Craggs and the Moors. A stunning drive 'over the tops' brings you to Haworth. The Bronte sisters lived in Haworth Parsonage. Anne Bronte was born the year Skylarks was built. Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were set in the region. The location of BBC period dramas Gentleman Jack and The Gallows Pole are both close by. Hebden is also the heart of Sarah Lancashire's Happy Valley.

Your period home is just a 5-minute walk from the train station with excellent links to the whole region. Manchester and Leeds city centres are less than an hour's journey. By car, Hebden Bridge is a great spot to break a journey between the North and South of the country. The Rochdale Canal is a feature of the area and passes behind the property.

As a self-catering house, you'll find a large kitchen/dining area with a fridge/freezer a traditional range with hobs and ovens, a kettle, and a microwave. You’ll also find a washer/dryer, iron and Ironing board as well as an electric airer. A large Dining table in the kitchen provides a focal point for gatherings of friends or family.

Adjoining and open to the kitchen is a cosy living space with a smart TV signed up to Netflix, YouTube etc. The TV is linked to a Harmon Kardon sound system which can also play music via an Alexa voice control device.

The Bedrooms are spread over the two upper floors with a bathroom at the top, so guests should be mobile enough to negotiate two flights of stairs.

The spacious first-floor master bedroom has a full double bed, luxury mattress and quilt, wood-burning stove and views of the canal, park and hillsides. On the same level a small but elegant double bedroom, ‘The Library’, has a selection of books and views of the town centre.

On the top floor a beautiful sunny full double bedroom ‘The Nest’ awaits. A popular favourite, decorated with a subtle Oriental theme, the Nest has stunning canal and hillside views. The comfortable full double bed comes with a pocket sprung/memory foam fusion mattress and Siberian down quilt.

Each double has an Alexa voice-controlled speaker.

At the front of the house at the top, you will find ‘The Cabin’, A twin room with a nautical theme, often used by children of family groups

The bathroom is located on the third floor and is styled in a bold green and gold Art Deco style. The bathroom has a toilet and sink and a vintage over-bath rain shower. Linen and towels are all included to make your stay more enjoyable.

Your home away from home, you will have the house to yourself with private access and self-check-in. Separate to this listing a self-contained basement studio sits beneath the main house. It has its own entrance and is used by the owner as an artist's studio. The Townhouse contains several examples of his hand-painted furniture as well as ceramics, antique furniture and eclectic pieces gathered from far-flung places.

Lovely house in a great location
We stopped over the Easter weekend. The house is located centrally and within walking distance of the shops, pubs and park. Lovely house with everything you need in it. It wasn't an issue for us but the bathroom/toilet is located on the 3rd floor. Make sure you take this into consideration before booking. The owner was on hand for any queries and was very helpful.
