We arrived in the dark which was an experience! When we got inside it was lovely, with a warm and cosy feeling. Rooms were lovely and everything was very clean. At night it’s is extremely quiet, which is exactly what we wanted and pitch black . Christmas Eve morning it started to snow which was magical. Walked into Pately Bridge which is a lovely village with good independent shops. Would definitely recommend this cottage and would definitely book it again. The location of the cottage is superb - overlooking the hillsides to the reservoir and surrounded by farmland. We loved it and hope to be back next year. The cottage is very warm and cosy with a log-burning stove. Beds comfortable and kitchen well-equipped. Lots of walks from the door and in Nidderdale and the surrounding area. Pateley Bridge is about 5 minutes in the car and about 2 miles walk. Facilities there fairly limited but met most of our needs. The cottage was very clean which was reassuring in the circumstances. Wickwoods is the perfect place to get away from it all.
Wickwoods is the perfect place to get away from it all. Set in a glorious location that's rural, but within easy reach of local amenities. The cottage worked well for our family with its two separate bedroom and bathing areas. This arrangment meant the kids didn't disturb the grandparents when they got up too early! There was just a couple of things that let it down ever so slightly. The first was the two humungous pot holes on the road near the entrance which couldn't be avoided, although they were navigable providing you took it steady. Secondly we found the bbq hadn't been cleaned out before our arrival. Apart from these two minor annoyances though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would totally recommend to family groups that want some peace and quiet in the most fantastic setting. Brilliant break.
Brilliant break. Cottage is lovely and the views from it are stunning. We listened to the owls at night and had a couple of beautifully clear skies, managed to see the Milky Way. Also watched the sheep and cows being moved. Good walk into Pateley Bridge which has everything you need. Several other good walks from the cottage as well. It was clean and cosy with plenty of room for the 5 of us Note: the potholes have been filled in but make sure you go over Pately Bridge and up from the Sportsman’s Arms on arrival. Our sat nav took us along the top route which is narrow and longer. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

7 of us spent Christmas at Wickwoods and loved it, we were actually pleasantly suprised at the standard of the accommodation and facilitates. The Sportsman down the road does excellent food, Pateley Bridge has a few nice pubs. Downside was the rubbish in the shed from previous occupants and dirty pots/pans and oven trays, l didn't expect to be having to soak pots and pans overnight on arrival..... Other than mentioned issues general cleanliness was good.

Lovely cottage accessed by very narrow roads. Fantastic scenery. Good supply of equipment. However possibly due to present vivid situations be aware you won’t find anything in the kitchen such as salt and pepper, sugar, tea, coffee, milk, matches and dishwasher tablets. So go prepared and it’s not a problem. A really lovely house, well equipped and comfortable. Set in a very quiet and rural location located in a field surrounded by a sheep farm which the children absolutely loved. Only a few mins drive to Pateley Bridge so best of both worlds. I would highly recommend this house if you are looking to get away and enjoy the countryside and the tranquility it offers. We will most definitely be booking to stay again.

Pleasant cottage in a beautiful, scenic and (under current circumstances much appreciated) isolated location. Well cleaned; a distinct lingering smell of bleach on arrival. No personal contact or personalised touches and although there was an abundance of local literature for walks and visits, many leaflets were several years old which suggested an abandonment of customer service. However, everything we really needed was there in good working order (with the exception of a bathroom door handle). Location is definitely it's greatest asset. Wickwoods’ location on a hillside, approached through two farm gates, ticks the peace and quiet box perfectly and has a stunning view across the valley towards Gouthwaite Reservoir. The comfortable lounge is relaxing and made cosy with the log fire lit. Our stay would have been complete had the following simple niggles been addressed: the oven and oven gloves should be cleaned; the tea towels were brand new but hadn’t been washed so left fibres on the pots; matches should be provided - to light the fire, we had to go in search of them after an already long drive; the downstairs bathroom is freezing and had to be heated well in advance to use it. If these small issues could be resolved, I would have no hesitation in recommending Wickwoods cottage.

Fantastic base for Nidderdale and the surrounding area. Feels remote due to its position but it’s less than a mile to Pateley Bridge and a five minute walk to the pub. Plenty of space for our family of five.

Private and well laid out cottage, up a steep hill and off on a dirt track (through two wooden gates). Plenty of peace and quiet. The track leading to the house wasn't too bumpy for a gravel / dirt track so a regular car should have no trouble - be warned that sheep use the field you drive through to reach the house. The house is laid out well to suit the locations of the bedrooms with the two downstairs bedrooms (one of the twins is down a flight of stairs off the hallway) serviced by a bathroom with bath and shower near the entrance to the house and then a further bathroom for use by the upstairs two bedrooms. One issue that we haven't seen from other rental accommodation is that we were charged for the kindling and logs already left in the lounge for the fire - £3 for using logs or the same for kindling! Usually what is left in the house is free and only extra firewood is charged is usually our experience on this. Aside from this, the only sour note was our dealings with the Sportsmans Arms where we tried to arrange for an evening meal on the Saturday and were told we couldn't reserve a table in the bar and were hinted upon that the restaurant may be 'too smart' for us. We were told to arrive at 6:30PM when they opened to get a table, but when we arrived it was obvious they had been open longer than this and we couldn't be seated. Long story short, save yourself the trouble of trying to eat there and go to Olley's Pizzeria in Pateley Bridge instead.
