The house is terrific, property is beautiful, views are magnificent.
Just wanted to leave some honest feedback regarding our experience with this property. The property was booked and paid in full on 12/31/23 for a stay in August, 2024. We then received a message on 5/20/24 (5 months later) stating renovations had been done on the home, that there was now an extra room, and that there would be an additional payment of another 40% on top of the initially listed and paid in full price. Also of note, the message stated that if we did not agree to the new terms, that we, the customer, should cancel the reservation.
In my research and discussions with hosts whom I know personally, this is not a typical request, and may in fact go against guidelines.
In the spirit of not ruining the much anticipated vacation, we paid the new balance and proceeded with the trip.
The home is lovely. The area and property are beautiful, but the experience left us feeling a little vulnerable and was a reminder of the lack of protections for customer/renters on the platform. So, while we had a lovely weekend, we were somewhat dissatisfied with the transaction as whole.
