Not what we were expecting.
The advertisement on hotels.com seemed fake. The reviews we read said the owners were super helpful & offered lifts & places to store luggage which is why we booked as we needed to store our suitcases somewhere while we went on a tour to Sapa. The couple who ran the hotel were super friendly but spoke no English so couldn’t help us. The room was big & clean. So was the bathroom. But we found it difficult to get enough hot water, turning the system on for half an hour was only enough for 3 minutes of hot water before it turned cold again. We couldn’t ask for help because of the language barrier. The biggest issue however was the construction site next door. Workers were using power tools from 7am until late in the evening, around midnight. Sometimes it was just drills but at one point the jack hammering was so loud, it sounded like it was inside our room. We paid for three nights but had to leave after two. I don’t blame the family who run the family hostel. Clearly they are trying their best. Later we spoke to the couples son & daughter who spoke good English. We have an issue with Hotels.com for the misleading review & will think more carefully about using this service to find accomodation in the future.
